Leafs wouldn't touch that... Matthews provides more value to the Leafs than Makar would, in spite of what people say.

Marner at least makes sense in the sense that the Leafs keep their franchise player and pay a ton more to get a fantastic piece...

I think even IF you called that fair value (which personally I don't even excluding the heavy helping of burgundy tinted vision) the Avs woudn't do it (and yes the '+' was noted). It would take an egregious overpay. I dislike the word untouchable (even Gretzky got traded), but in the modern game Makar is one of the few who is as near to that as it gets. Nice to see MOST Toronto fans get this one though!

question is not if they woukd do it, just value wise! with mackinon, makar is also more valuable to the avs than matthews would be. makar is younger too

Matthews would be more valuable to the Avs than either Mack or Makar lol... Especially now that Matthews literally plays in all situation and has a good chance at the Rocket and Selke

Let’s play hypothetically because Makar isn’t going anywhere, but that’s not an overly enticing package. Short term the Avs take on more cap and get worse that is an instant no starter. COL would be looking in a return at a minimum a cost controlled with massive upside top 6 C, a top 4 dman under team control and at a minimum 2 1st round picks with no protection. He is tho. And costs 4.6 mill less than mackinnon and 5.2 less than matthews (with more term than matthews) while still improving.

And? BTW, rn, Matthews is only making 3.6 more... And Matthews and McKinnon are FAR superior to Hughes still... It's not even a know on Hughes, it's a testament to how great both Matthews and McKinnon are

thats not what im saying. im saying that since they already have a top 5 center in mack, having makar is more usefull to them than having matthews.

But don't the Ads ned a top 6 C? Imagine having to go up against Matthews or Mackinnon all game except for the PPs, where they play together... That would be unstoppable... And you still have Devon Teows, Girad, Byram, Manson etc. still on the backend

well yes it would be fun and they would still be a great team. but its better to have a top 5 d and and a top 5 c than 2 top 5 c.

And have 1 3C and 2 4Cs? The Ads, without Makar, still have a top 10 defensive team in the NHL... But their forwards are really lacking behind Mackinnon and Rantanen... Matthews changes everything where they could have 2 elite 1rst lines, a stupid good PK and have the best power play in the league
