Pesce > Zadorov, but not as much as historically. Pesce has had a pretty pedestrian season as he approaches 30.
Im sure you disagree with some of these, but I don't see it as an upgrade at all.

I don't mind the value of the Canucks trade, but just struggle to see the fit. With Hughes and Soucy on board already, are the Canucks really going to acquire Graves' contract to play 3rd pair at 4.5 mil long term?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>Wrong. Incredibly fair value trade that fits Ottawa’s biggest needs.
Foresberg has an excellent track record the three years prior to this one. Worse than Demko? Yes for sure.
But still easily a good enough goalie for this team to compete for first in the pacific again. It’s not like LA or Edmonton or VGK or Colorado have elite goaltending but all of them are basically 100 point teams.
Vans biggest strength is defense. They need to add more offense to the team and this is the best way to do it
This would be the best top 9 forward group the team has possibly ever rolled out, even going back to the Sedin era teams</div></div>
Yes, you're right, it would be.
But having the best top 9 forward group is definitely not what wins you games or championships.
That goaltending will sink any team, and that defense is below average too. This is a team that loses games 6-4 regularly.

There are just, so many things here.
One, youre already over the cap by 5.6 mil.
Two, no one is taking Josh Anderson without significant payment.
Three, Draisaitl is getting way more cause the cap will be like 90+ mil.
Four, the defense sucks.
Five, MTL wont be bad enough to get Eiserman.

Re-Tool 4
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick1919</b></div><div>Really?
How is it unrealistic? How many points do you think Tkachukl gets playing alongside MacKinnon? His usual 80 points or so? Try 90-95 points.... which would be like 10 points less than Rantanen.... Rantanen doesn't fight, is never near the league lead in hits, and shots.... Brady is top 5 in both every single season. He is the game's best power forward and it isn't even close. They get Brady for 4 years at $8.2M.... Colorado will get 10 more points for $4M more in cap hit, receive less hits, less intimidation, Brady fights.... The issue is, Ottawa has done too much losing and the point is to get aherad of him asking for a trade.... Rantanen who has his cup will take the overpayment to play here. Otttawa losing so much put themselves in that spot. If anything it's a deal Ottawa doesn't do and roll the dice they make the playoffs. But if a deal like that came up, I'd consider it.....</div></div>
Brady is a volume player, and that is not a good fit for high end teams. You really don't understand hockey if you think MacKinnon would rather pass to B.Tkachuk (career 9.6% shooting) than Rantanen (career 16.1% shooting).
Brady is an inefficient player, who takes excessive penalties and causes significant distractions. He ends countless possessions with poor shots, is less than half the playmaker that Rantanen is, and is completely overrated.
I would love to know what you think makes him the "game's best power forward."
In most non-Ottawa eyes he is a player who hits like a freight train, sticks up for his teammates, and loves to shoot but... he is also incredibly immature, a total distraction on the ice, incredibly inefficient, kills plays by making low % shots, has his production come from effort and volume over talent, and in general a player who won't take over a game on his own.
Most people think he is the ultimate role-player, but no one is relying on him as the "go-to guy" like they would a Rantanen who is arguably the best RW in the league.
And absolutely no one is trading Rantanen for Tkachuk lol.

God damn that Colorado trade is so one-sided.
You've lost the plot if you think someone's contract situation drains that much value.
Completely unrealistic, my man. That's a ludicrous deal.

Listen, two things can be true:
- The trade can have fair value
- The trade makes absolutely no sense from an organizational or roster standpoint
Hell no, because it makes the team significantly worse on aggregate, even if the value might be there.

I wouldn't say any of these are necessarily better but they would be "free": Montour, Tanev, Pesce, DeMelo, Roy, Walker.
That being said, we'll see how many of those <em>actually</em> reach free agency.

Ottawa Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>There has been one goalie with Swayman’s track record and age ever traded.
Does Taylor Hall’s trade to Chicago drive all forward values?.
Lots of comments about goalie values, but generally teams don’t trade goalies barring cap relief required. Lots of journeyman types like Husso, Reimer, Lyon, Korpisalo, and Forsberg are ready available.
Swayman. Not so much.
I do see why people believe goalies are easy to acquire, but why do so many teams have bad goalies?</div></div>
If teams really want to have a goalie with good statistics, they need to fix their roster and their defensive systems.
Goalies are often a product of their system. There's a reason just about every goalie that's gone through Boston in the last 15 years has done extremely well, and it's not because every single one of them is elite.
If you're trading for a goalie, you're pulling them out if the system that surrounded them and putting them in your own, which typically sucks. In general, the vast majority of goalies are considered 70% environment and system. And that has shown to be accurate from goalies who have swapped teams over seasons. That's why teams do not value goalies, because they just don't transfer.

Also, if every single person says the exact same thing, its probably worth listening to lol

Oh god, we finally get depth and it makes the Canucks super successful, just to sacrifice it entirely plus all futures to make an elite top 6. That would be horrendous team building IRL.
And while I think Boqvist is decent, he's the opposite of what the coaching staff likes in their dmen.

Great offer, I would think Seattle would accept if they decided to tear it down and reset!
Stamkos and Tanev are also both good fits, but that's a little low for both of them. I imagine Tanev will extend with Dallas in the 4.5-5 mil range honestly, so maybe some extra dollars to Stamkos to get him to come.

Man, I just can't get behind signing Lindholm. He's been a poor fit, but worse than that, he's already started declining and signing him to a long term extension just doesn't make any sense if that decline continues.
I'd rather spend the money on having a more reliable bottom pair of defensemen than on Lindholm. Keep Joshua-Blueger-Garland together and Aman as 4C, and give Raty time to hopefully develop into a 3C without having Lindholm long term and declining in front of him.

Wtf no.
Myers and Zadorov are playing good in their roles, which is down the depth chart.
Matheson's freestyling high risk high reward style isn't needed here, and wouldn't fit with Tocchet's system.
Savard is worse than both Myers and Zadorov.
Lekkerimaki wouldn't go for this type of deal anyways.

No, what you're saying is nonsense.
It doesn't matter *how* good you are, picking the puck off the wall on your backhand is universal for every single player that plays their off-side. That is not something a skill level makes disappear, every single dman on their offside will have to pick it up on their back hand, and then make a move to their forehand, which is universally slower than the same player just picking the puck up on their forehand on their strong side.
That is just an inherent shortcoming of playing on your offside.
P.S. The Avs acquired Josh Manson like two years ago, a righty, and Byram split time with him and Girard this season. They also just traded for another top 4 RHD in Sean Walker, because even the Avs prefer dmen playing on their strong side lmao.

It’s the dumbest thing ever. If a guy can’t play off handed then you don’t play him off handed, if a guy playing his off hand is better than a guy playing natural you aren’t benching the off hand guy. You are making an issue out of something that isnt an issue.</div></div>
Of course you're gonna play the guy, but you're also seriously handicapping him, and you're causing issues on-ice in terms of timing and efficiency and quickness of play and decision making. That's universal. Byram with all of those added issues is still better than say Erik Johnson, but you still have those issues on ice now.
I would not be surprised if they moved a guy like Samuelsson for a RHD now, to alleviate the issue and have Dahlin Power and Byram on their own pairs.

You only need to watch any NHL game and see how often the D switch back and forth during a Power Play.
This was never talked about when I grew up watching hockey in the 80s and 90s.
Now it's all Hockey fans talk about.
Can you imagine a Bruins fan in the 60s/70s saying "We don't need Bobby Orr! He's a LD!"
🤣</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Yeah dumbest thing ever. Guys can play or they can’t you aren’t going to sit a better player just because he is left handed.</div></div>
Guys, there's a huge difference lol.
Imagine the puck coming along the right side boards. A righty will be able to pick it up on his forehand, be facing up ice, and whenever he's holding the puck and looking up ice, the puck is also up ice from him. A lefty would have to pick the puck off the boards on his backhand, and make a move which takes time to get the puck on his forehand. In a board battle, he'd be sweeping and battling on his weaker side. If he has the puck and is looking up ice, the puck is on the middle of the ice side of him which makes a central forechecker cover way more angles.
There's so so so many logical reasons to having a dman on his strong side, and there's a reason every team tries to keep it like that.
Sure it's <em>doable</em> by some players, but they are seriously handicapped in lots of situations and it is not ideal at all to have it.
