People almost unanimously label Jarmo as a trash GM outside of Columbus and he has quite a few critics in Columbus so I'm not sure how he could be overrated.

Got fleeced in his very first trade. Other GMs are taking notes

He got a young roster player, and a 3rd. What do you think Taffoli was worth?

Darnell Nurse contract
Jack Campbell contract
Overpaying for an aging Ekholm
Signing Cody Ceci and Tyson Barrie
No depth and defense

Says a lot about his body of work

Ekholm is their best defenceman that was not an overpay

if dubas is an ok gm so is donny, dude hasnt sniff the SCF since 2006 but we baby the canes so much ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, Cup or bust this year. If they fail this year change needs to happen. idc about they win in the playoffs they been swept in the ECF what 3 times so far, like come on Donny and Rod, need the same energy you give other teams. Canes will get the leafs treatment if they fail one again.

He could have very much waited until the deadline to get a haul when contenders are looking for a top 6 difference maker. He could have got a lot bigger package if he just waited

The comparables brought back a 2nd, that's not really a bigger package.

Nurse contract was a situation caused by previous gms he didn’t have a whole lot of control over and isn’t as big of an over pay as it’s made out to be.
Campbell had a rough season but it’s also his first season in Edmonton might be a bit too soon to judge that.
I’d agree to an extent the price was high for ekholm but holland targeted the player that fit exactly what the team needed and gave them a massive boost I’d say results spoke for themselves he’s been excellent. Good trade
Ceci and Barrie were both great signings too not sure how to defend that thought they defended it well enough on there own. Barrie quarterbacked a historic pp and ceci teamed up with nurse for all the hard minutes.
No depth? When really good young players like Holloway or Broberg can’t get regular playing time on the big club one would suggest they have depth.

That doesn't mean he was fleeced though, the fact that he might have gotten a better return at the tdl.

IDK about Briere but Habs fans are acting like Hughes is the best GM in the league and he can do no wrong... Especially after making some questionable decisions

please, show me where Habs fans think Hughes can do no wrong. Also what trades are questionable? Hughes has flipped Bergevin's horrible post cup run signings and in two years has Montreal possessing a top-10 prospect pool in the league. I think you're alone in that take, and rightfully so.

The Newhook trade is the easiest example... It supposedly a great trade for the Habs despite Colorado then using that 2nd to get Ross Colton, who's better than Newhook... Not a very good move
Dvorak trade
Jake Allen extension

as examples

another day another leaf fan missing the mark completely.

First off Newhook needs a lesser role on a team with substantially less expectations to cater to his development, which we all learned last season with the departure of Kadri along with injuries slotting him in a top 6 situation - which like Dach, he clearly was not ready for (at least on a team that good). So trading a 2nd for a player with no solidified ceiling (like Dach) is really not anything. To your point about Colton - you need to think for a second and understand what trading an asset to a division rival can result in. Why accept a second round pick from a team you'll meet a lot during the season in exchange for a player who would 1. step into habs lineup and log minutes 2. could fit perfectly in that team and bite Tampa in the ass. Thats bad business; so the "not a very good move" claim is blatantly wrong.

Second, use your head; nobody on earth wants Dvorak. That was a Bergevin move that the Habs are stuck with. I am sure Hughes has tested the interest and asked other GMs if they'd be interested and probably none were. Not really Hughes' fault Bergevin signed a mediocre player and signed him on a horrible contract.

If the Habs dont resign Jake Allen, they concede double the amount of goals they allowed. Not that Allen is elite by any means, but he carried the load that Primeau clearly cannot. You need NHL goaltending to log games. That signing was necessary, but you likely didn't know any of the context behind any of these decisions which isn't your fault.

Keep watching Hockey, you'll get it.

Newhook costed the Habs a 1st and a 2nd + a C tier prospect... The Avs then flipped the 2nd into Colton... Colton's the better player, Newhook for sure isn't an additional 1st better value wise... +As much trading with division rivals can be considered bad... they also happen a lot with both sides getting what they want (in this case, Tampa gets cap relief and Montreal gets a good, young player... Certainly a better win than paying the extra 1st and prospect for more risk...

Was off by a year on the Dvorak thing

As for Allen, He had a worse season than Matt Murray while only having 0.1 GAA better than Petr Mrazek (and a worse save percentage). He's a cap dump rn... +, doesn't MTL have Montembault, and MTL could have signed any of: Anderson, Varlamov, Talbot, Brossoit, Ranta, Blackwood or Ned to cheaper deals... Could have also offer sheeted Sammy or Swayman

Just take a step back and look at your results. 21/32 NHL GM’s are below average and 6/32 NHL GM’s are above average.

These aren’t ACGM teams with an average skewed by dummies that turn 1/4 baked ideas into pretend NHL rosters. These are all excellent hockey minds competing on an equal footing to win a Stanley cup.

Averages don’t lie… your math sucks.

The ONLY way Cheveldayoff is a TOP 5 GM in this league, is if there is 5 GM's in this league.

Great argument, grow up
