6 Landing Spots for Saros - Which Makes Sense

Description
I know I am not Trotz, and I give no indication that I think I know enough to claim to be an expert on the value of players for each franchise, etc. I have been flamed enough in some of my other ACGM attempts that I do not need to see those comments here... just constructive comments is my hope.

From Podcasts I listen to, as well as common trends I see on ACGM's, I believe these are the 5 teams who appear to have the most interest in Saros.

Being a trade for a top-5 (maybe top 3) goalie has no real comparables and history that properly reflect what it could look like, odds are Saros won't get moved at all. But one can still day dream.

I went through the 5 teams and selected players I personally feel could fit with what Trotz is trying to do. What I am hoping to see from others is out of the listed teams, players, picks...

Which team has the most realistic shot to land Saros, and what would be the most realistic package for Saros?

What is Trotz trying to do? Retools almost unequivocally fail. So IMO Nashville should be rebuilding.

No one should ever give up this much for a goalie. Take away one or two big pieces from every proposal and maybe teams consider it. And I love Saros. I imagine this is why we never see these trades. It's right in the very middle of that if you have a goalie that high-end you should expect the world because of what that goalie means. And yet, no team should pay anything close to this.

He hasn't come out to specifically say rebuild, but he has said taking a step back now and get younger.

Thank you for reading the Description and outlining this option. Honestly, I think this is almost perfect value.

If you read the description, I state that these are not the actual offers, just players I like that fits Trotz's potential vision.

I don't think the Sabres are a fit. If they're going to make a move I think they're after either a veteran or a guy like Dan Vladar. If the Sabres were to trade for Saros and they didn't have Levi, and using those pieces...

Read the description, guys.

I mean then don't post something like this. Just post the teams you think have interest and Nashville has interest in making a deal. Maybe don't post you getting the Eric Lindros return for a goalie in 2023.

Yeah, I used a 24 1st instead of Ostlund, I think Kev rather uses the pick. But it's moot anyway.

He's stated that he did that to specify players of interest to the Preds. It serves a clear purpose to say "These are pieces I'd be interested in for Saros; please give me feedback on a package around one or more of these pieces in return for Saros".

I still think CAR makes the most sense, in a Saros trade. They don't have a starting goalie, and could use an upgrade over what they had, to get to the next level. They've got the cap space to absorb Saros, without having to make other salary shedding moves or sticking NSH with retention or unwanted contracts. They've got multiple prospects NSH would have interest in (Nikishin, Morrow, Trikozov, Drury) and a deep enough pool that trading one or more of those guys wouldn't decimate their system. Plenty of draft picks to use in a trade too.

They're also the closer to being a top contender than any of these other teams, so presumably they'd be the most interested in adding a top goalie.

Added Carolina to the list. Never considered them, but I agree with you, they do make the most sense being most ready for a Cup and no starting goalie currently on their roster. Cheers to the idea!

Ottawa would definitely be interested but there's about a 0% chance Sanderson would be involved, and maybe a 5% chance Pinto is.

Not sure how Trotz feels about DeBrincat but I could see that being a deal. I know Preds fans think there would be a huge plus added to the Cat but my counter-argument would be when is the last time a goalie got a return like DeBrincat signed long term? Only big goalie trade close to that would be Schneider for 9th overall (Horvat). I would wager DeBrincat's value signed 8x8 would be around there, Saros' numbers are similar to Schneider's at the time.

Even if Saros is worth more than DeBrincat at face value, getting a 25 year old 1st line 40 goal guy locked up for 8 years adds some value relative to a goalie who can bolt in 2 years.

I would probably offer DeBrincat (signed)+Branny+mid round pick for Saros+2023 2nd.

The Preds aren't a contender with Saros, and would be a basement dweller without him. If NSH is trading Saros they'd be looking for futures - not a pricy winger in his prime.

A Saros for Debrincat swap only makes sense for one team.

So far these are the 2 that meet a semblance of realistic. My gut is leaning towards the Buffalo side though... my fear is that DeBrincat turns into the next Duchene. Sure he gets some points, but seems to carry some negativity around him, but maybe that is an unjustified feeling.

If you had read the description, or any of the comments you'd see the OP was listing pieces that could potentially be in play for Saros. These aren't proposals.

And really, five 1sts and two 2nds? If you think all of those guys still have value equivalent to where they were drafted, I can't wait to see what you'd pay for 1st round talent Mike McCarron.

... are all most definitely completely out of the picture in regards to trading for Saros.
The rest of the pieces should all be viable.

Carolina seem like the best fit for a Saros trade to me.

I think the Cat is easily a consistent 40 goal guy if you give him a really good linemate or two. There was all the talk about him playing with Stutzle but almost never did play with him 5v5. Our next C is Norris who got hurt less than 2 weeks into the season, so he played with Pinto or Greig all year, both of whom are going to be very solid players in this league but are both 22 or under and still finding their way in the NHL.

All this said - Cat to NSH would worry me as a preds fan as they don't really have that top line C to play with, and he would obviously be on a different line as forsberg.

P.S. Why is Duchene stuck on the wing in Nashville? He was genuinely so much better at C in Ottawa.

Read it too quickly, my bad.. And yes, every one of those players is the equivalent of a first round pick with the possible exception of UPL who is worth a 2 or 3.
