Fixing this team maybe
Zub is probably worth more than EK alone when you factor in contracts and age, if not very similar. Also he is as close to untouchable without actually being untouchable. You just don't trade super reliable RHD like him, he makes whoever he plays with better.
Let alone adding a Top 10 pick LMFAO
If Karlsson comes to Ottawa it'll be Chychrun going the other way, and MAYBE Norris.

This was at the beginning of the season when we needed to sign Pinto and Joseph was viewed as a cap dump. He has had an extremely good bounce back year and has bee one of our best forwards - now his contract looks great.
Definitely not a cap dump anymore

Straight from this very website:
"Performance bonuses count against the salary cap; however, a team can exceed the salary cap due to performance bonuses by the maximum performance bonus cushion amount of 7.5 percent of the upper limit."
I'm not sure how Norris' LTIR factors in but I don't think Sanderson's performance bonuses factor in at all, and if they do Staios would be wise to just play the last 19 games with a trimmed roster as opposed to carrying over that $1M hit to next year.

Honestly... I'd take it. It's the closest think we'll get to what we gave up for him. Mid 1st, mid 2nd and other stuff.
We could keep our Top 10 pick and use the other 2 to get an elite Goalie.

All teams say no... as a sens fan, they definitely say no. I wouldn't take that package for one of Chychrun or Pinto, let alone both of them. Also Pinto is like the 4th most untouchable player on Ottawa right now and is not going anywhere

Give Claude Another Chance At A Cup
He picked Ottawa for more than just himself. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy to put himself before his family just to chase a cup that he still might not get a chance at.
If Ottawa is in the same situation next year, I could see him moving as it would only be a few months and the whole family won't have to move. But with a year left on his deal, I don't think there's a chance of him moving this year

DeBrusk ideas
Could see something around Tarasenko and DeBrusk, depending on if Jake would want to sign in Ottawa or not. Tarasenko definitely helps BOS more for the playoff run, and Ottawa gets a longer term 3rd line winger with some experience instead of just a pick.
Still think BOS adds but wouldn't be much

Deadline Dealin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>I don't love being a "blame the coach" kinda guy but JGP and Wahlstrom's numbers have been done in by some seriously questionable coaching decisions, which is why I think if they moved to another team they would see a bump up in their production - provided the next team doesn't make the same mistakes Lane Lambert (and, to an extent, Barry Trotz) made with these guys.
Wahlstrom is an offense-first player, always has and always will be. The problem is, he spends just as much time playing on defensive-minded lines as he has on offensive-minded ones - since the beginning of 2021-22, his time spent skating with Mat Barzal and JG Pageau at 5v5 is almost identical (539:49 vs. 519:27 in 139 GP - and, predictably, he does better with Barzal. Skating with Barzal, his possession numbers are more or less even and the team gets 61.1% of the goals scored; with Pageau, he gets about 43% of the chances and GF% is 51.2. They've really tried to take his square peg and put it in a round hole over and over again and wonder why he hasn't panned out. I also throw a little of the blame on Barry Trotz, because in Trotz's last year the team was wellll out of it by the end of the season - perfect time to give a young kid some run and let him develop. But for some reason, after going 10-9-19 in 13:23 per night through the all-star break that year, he then spent the last 33 games of the year getting only 10:27 per night in the bottom 6 and going 3-2-5 in that time. He's a perfect change of scenery candidate.
Pageau, meanwhile, is suffering from his reputation as a strong faceoff guy and awful deployment. Under Trotz, he averaged about a 44/56 o-zone/d-zone start split and his possession numbers were not great but livable (usually 47% CF). The last 2 years under Lambert he's seen his d-zone starts jump 63% and now 71% this year - combined with the neverending parade of defense injuries behind him, and I'd say it's a miracle he still kept his CF around 47% last year and not at all a surprise that he's down to 38% this year. There's definitely some decline happening in there, sure - but I think with more judicious usage you'll see him actually looking more like his old self again.
I think the trade is an interesting value - Wahlstrom has more upside than Kastelic so i'd say he's marginally more valuable; I think Joseph is more valuable than JGP which is why I threw retention in. I also think the fits work well for both teams - moving Joseph and presumably one of Tarasenko/Kubalik gives you the roster spots to give ice time to the bevy of young wingers in Belleville (and Wahlstrom), and Kastelic is redundant if you bring JGP in. Personally, I don't mind adding a modest sweetener to the Islanders side, whether in the form of more retention or another asset, but I think it's a deal that can benefit both teams this year and next.</div></div>
I appreciate the thought in this post and a lot of your points are valid, however Joseph has been our most reliable forward this year and at $3M went from a cap dump to a contract steal. Ottawa looking to add players like Pageau for the bottom 6, but his price tag is just too high and moving a younger Joseph with cup experience for an older, more expensive and worse vet just doesn't align with what Ottawa is looking to do. They want to add vets, not downgrade on the few we have now.
Wahlstrom does have more upside than Kasty, but Katelic's style is much better suited for a 4th line role which is what both players will be for their careers. I will take the big strong right handed C over the skilled 4th line winger, respectfully.

JGP for Vlad Swap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Big_Rock_Brock</b></div><div>he had 40 points last year, i highly doubt he's just suddenly bad. his linemates have been awful this year (Holmstrom/Wahlstrom/Fasching/Gauthier) . Really dont think hes regressed as much as I thought, looked fine on 2C the other day playing with an ounce of talent</div></div>
We have Stutzle, Pinto and Greig locked in at C, Pageau would likely be our 4C unless he was a 3RW. Either way, overpaid by $2M and only gets you an asset if you retain that $2M. Otherwise he is negative value. Wahlstrom is barely a roster player, 6 years after being drafted like 12th overall. He doesn't add much value at all.
Add your 1st round pick and this deal might make sense.

Coming into the year I expected a mess defensively, based on many peoples opinions of his game. But watching him 50+ times this year, his overall game is very mature. He's not going to kill penalties for you but he always makes the right play and always looks to steal pucks. I would definitely prefer to extend him but if WPG were to trade for him, they should also try to extend him for 3 years. Still a very solid player and will make any contender better. He's the 2nd best forward available right now after Guentzel

Let's be real though, Brady wouldn't be going to STL to be a rental, he'd be going there to retire a Blue so the cost would be steep.

Could see Brady asking to go to STL or FLA in 2028 if not staying in Ottawa, but Schenn will be 36 turning 37 then so makes zero sense to have him going to Ottawa. Who knows what other pieces STL will have then but the only piece you have that I would be happy getting in return is Thomas, which makes no sense as he would be a big part in why Brady would want to go to STL.

He's likely the best forward available not named Jake Guentzel, I think if they retain on him they should be able to get a 1st from a contender like Vegas or Dallas. But part of me also thinks they would prefer a 2nd and a near-nhl ready prospect over a late 1st.
