Description
With these changes the flyers would be drafting 7th 22nd 27th 28th 30th and 31st in the 2023 draft. but with that many late first rounders i would heavily consider moving up and down in the draft and maybe get a couple of 2nd rounders and a mid first rounder. Say flyers draft Reinbacher with their 7th overall, we have Morrow, Reinbacher and York, Sanheim as our top 4 for the future. We then use the rest of the picks to draft high-upside players.

I could see all the trades happening except Hart to MTL, I think they use that pick for a Dubois trade and there's no urgency for them to go after Hart either. They already identified Montembeault as the goalie of the future. Also, unlikely that all 3/4 trades happen before/at the 2023 draft.

Understandable, i just dont see how montreal win a dubois trade knowing he will sign with them in a year anyways if that makes sense. you will have to pay more because hes just not a one year rental.

I don't see why we would trade for Laughton at that price if Konecny is available with retained salary for what CAR gave up.

Not enough for TK or Hart. Maybe without the retention its good for TK as Morrow is a true elite prosoect. 50% retention on a player on an already reasonable contract is huge though and worth a better return.

Primeau does nothing for the Flyers and isnt needed. A late 1st and conditional 2nd isnt enough.

Morrow is a FAR better prospect than Robertson but the issue is his return on TK is a bit light and significantly light with the retention.

Canes won’t be moving Morrow for TK, and they don’t need the retention either.

Didn't say anything about Robertson compared to Morrow. But at the price Konecny being traded for with retention is a better idea to target him instead of Laughton.

I had 2 st and Morrow at first which i thought was to much. but maybe fair with the retained salary. im very high on Morrow so thats why i thought it made sense. Maybe morrow a first and a 2nd.

I dont think Hart is worth as much as we want. Great goalies are losing their value around the league and i think its better to go the cheap 3 goalie route. With Primeau we add a player with connections to the flyers which is hillarius and a 23 year old goalie with NHL upside. We could hold on to him but im not sure giving him 7 mil or more a year is a very productive way of using salary cap

interested in why? I get Morrow is a very good prospect but Canes lacked goalscoring forwards vs Florida imo and Konecny helps them win now and Morrow is not playing next year due to him going back to college

While I think Konecny is on the list of potential targets for the Canes, I'm not sure he's that high up. I don't have a problem at all with entertaining a trade, but I don't think Waddell would go too deep on this one. Definitely worth some exploration. I like him.

You don’t have a prospect like Morrow that isn’t Knies or Liljegren so TK starts with one of them. That TK deal is also a 2nd round pick light for sure with that retention.

I like all of these trades and but I think an extra 2nd is needed for TK. I talked to 3-4 Canes fan yesterday who said that would be a fair trade but some Canes fans just want to magically acquire all of the top available players without giving up any of their good prospects lol. Some want to have their cake and eat it too when that isn’t realistic

To be fair, the canes were without svechnikov last year and he will be coming back so they already have that addition to their scoring without giving anything up. Now that’s not to say that they don’t want even more. Most of their roster is only signed for 1 more year so after next year they could look completely different. Id bet they want to go all in next year to try to win

all those deals are probably a bit light for PHI.

Why would PHI deal Koneckny, or Hart, or even Laughton unless they are getting back an overpayment OR exactly what they want?

PHI is playing 2/3rds of a very young team and have 2-3 bluechips in the AHL, so them trading 25-26 yr olds makes no sense, because they are trading guys who are in their prime now and thru the next 2-4 years for prospects who might not even arrive for 3-4 years?

if TK had a chance to be re-signed, we would likely add the 2nd needed to the deal to make it. Seeing that we would have no control over TK, Im not sure we would spring for that deal with Morrow in it.

Canes accept. Lack of scoring in the playoffs has to be addressed. It’s been more than a one year problem

He had 54pts on a dog butt PHI team I would be ok with him at 2C, and at under $4M cap hit you have no problem putting him at 3C if Newhook blossoms.

Considering that their goal scoring forwards were injured, yet they made it to the ECF, where they still kept it exceptionally even with the Panthers, I don’t think they need to go and buy a premium goal scorer, not that TK is yet. I do think that TK is a potential target this off season, as he fits the bill of what the Canes would be looking for to a tee, but Morrow is the Canes top RHD propsect. The Canes would be taking the long term plan into consideration, as Burns might play into his 40s, but someone will need to replace him, and that is likely to be Morrow. As for the retention, it just isn’t needed.

Just turned 22, 2 30pt seasons playing everywhere with everyone. Get him some consistent linemates with some finishing skills ie Nichushkin with a consistent 15-18 minutes a night and I think he is a 50pt player. Sure as hell if he got 20 minutes a game like Compher did last season COL wouldn’t be wondering if he could be the 2C.

I watch roughly 75-80 Avs games a year on TV (yes I have a problem but I am older and on the east coast so I can do it when everyone is asleep) and the thing that makes me crazy about Newhook is what comes across as a lack of aggression / being too selfless. I agree his linemates have always been a poor fit, but he also seems to pass up taking a shot, over-passing, etc. He is clearly very smart on the ice, has a great motor, etc. He shot 12% last year so he can bury the puck, but he averaged less that 1.5 shots per game. I would LOVE to see the switch flip and see him shoot more. If that is from the 2nd/3rd LW or at the 2C, I am somewhat indifferent, I just want him in a spot to succeed.

Definitely! The most disappointing thing for me this last season with him was exactly that, when he is playing with the LOC’s and Cogliano’s he needs to be the dude shooting, I chalk some of that up to being to deferential to veteran teammates not all that different from MacK when Duchene was on the team. I think that’s one of the more difficult things for players to learn though because it doesn’t mean try and do it yourself it means know who should be shooting. Great observations!
