TSN's Mike Johnson predicted Auston Matthews' next deal on TSN1050's OverDrive on Thursday. He thinks it will either be 3 years, $40M ($13.34M AAV) or 5 years, $67.5M ($13.5M AAV). Doesn't think 8 years will even be considered by Matthews at this point.

1st off, nice to see you again!

2nd, I think a 5-6 year deal is most likely. If it's a 3 year deal, I will be very disappointed

Highly doubt he'd be available at 11

I really like Brindley who I could easily see being available at 28 and I can't see somebody who is that far ahead of him (at least imo) being there at 11, so I wouldn't be a fan of that deal.

If he wants term I want to do it in a way where if he starts to suck u can burry the deal and not have a cap punishment 1.1 mill x 4 years. And give him the M-NTC

As I know the sample but the guy earned it and let him end his career where it all started for him

He's been ranked higher by other outlets, and lower as well tbf, but personally I'd be surprised if he was still there

Name that's kind of flown under my radar: Tanner Molendyk.

My attention is usually drawn to the "big swing" types, but I really feel like he'd just be real solid pick. Seems like a high floor guy with a decent ceiling as well.

Haven't read on the guy, but generally speaking guys who get tagged with the "high floor" or "safe" picks tend to massively underperform their draft slot

As Werenski will be on PP1 and Severson PP2 so Boqvist whose an offensive D got no spot

I know, which is why he's flown under my radar so far. Kinda just overlooked him as that archetype, but watching some of his video, I really don't mind what I see at all.

Kinda reminds me Sandin (who was also labelled a safe pick) in the sense that you watch him play and its clear that that's an NHL player in waiting, but there's also that intriguing extra bit in there that could allow him to be more. There are still guys I'd hope are there at 28 that I'd take over him, but I think some team in the 25-40 range is gonna be making just a really solid pick with him.

Here's a good little pack of what he does well.

If Leafs trade down they should be eying either this guy, Theo Lindstein, or Cameron Allen

Lindstein is very interesting as people often overlook him for Sandin but from what I have heard very good 2-way D

Cameron Allen was projected to be a high first this year than injuries caught up and he didnt have a great season so hes expected to be a mid 2nd.

I wonder if bringing in Doan is part of a plan to not only get Matthews on a longer extension but to add Keller to

As with that vote for the arena not ending well Keller's dad's convinced his sons gone

Alternative to my nylander trade from earlier.

Liljegren + 28 for Garland + 11. Maybe we take another mid tier dump from VAN too.

Because if we sign Schenn, lily will be wasted on the 3rd pair amd we have Timmins with a contract ready to go, so leverage that value to grab 11th overall and our future 2C in Moore

Its not even like I have some huge belief in Timmins, its just that (Like Sandin) Liljegren is positioned to be wasted on a 3rd pair. Thats just wasted value
