If Montreal drafts Michkov

Description
If they draft Michkov then the Habs won’t have an impact player next year.
Let’s say their goaltenders plays worse than they did this year (since Montembeault played better than expected) and they get another high draft pick and they get Kiviharju on defence.
Then sign PLD as a UFA
Should they then start trading draft picks (as in the trade below) to round out the defence and hope to get a goalie via free agency or the 2nd or 3rd rounds of upcoming drafts? Trey Augustine, Carson Bjarnason or Michael Hrabal perhaps?
I could add more to the BYRAM trade (like Jared Davidson or William Trudeau) if necessary

I wonder if Michkov really falls:

I think CBJ's list would be Carlsson Smith Michkov and San Jose's List would be Carlsson Michkov Smith. Which leaves the Habs with smith

I would be happy with Smith being on Montreal’s 2nd line with Dubois and Slafkovsky

Ok. Josh can go somewhere else for a 2nd round pick. It’s more about freeing up cap space. I think that a team that wants to contend right now would give up a mid to late second round pick for him. Maybe Montreal even retains ina trade if they could get a late first round pick instead

Montreal should just go best player available at 5 and whereever Florida picks, decent chance at best goalie available at Florida pick or montreal 2nd rounder, and a dman to round out three decent picks going forward. If Montreal trades out of 5 for somebody trading up to get michkov, would be kind of interesting also as long as that first coming back isn’t too much of a drop.

The question on anderson isn’t his abilities right now, it’s that contract is a bit of a anchor for a deal, lots of teams would ante up if he was on a 2 year deal and hit a window, but 4 could be rough going forward.

And this is exactly why Calgary has no interest in him.

We have enough long contracts that may not end well in the final years. We do not need another one in Anderson.

Avs likely aren't interested in moving Byram but, if they were, they aren't going to want a package like this

How about Anderson to L.A. with $1,250,000.00 retained per annum for their 1st this year (#23)?

Avs already have a bad former forward now defense in Kermit MacDermid, no need for Matheson. Also 3 late and late year 1st, sound like a lot but I'm willing to bet doll hairs that none of those picks come close to the level of Bo Byram.

Simple answer is - No. The Habs still aren't close to giving up future assets for players and that Byram trade is an unheard of price that the Habs would be stupid to pay.

You're also not getting nearly enough for Habs players in the trades. Anderson gets a 1st + , Allen can be sold as a rental for more then that, Dvorak is still an NHL calibre center and won't have to include a prospect to be moved for that pathetic return

Don't see the fit in L.A.

They have Iaffalo who plays a similar role, makes less money and is equally as effective.

Don't want to sound mean or anything but I can't see any team giving MTL anything really of value for Anderson. You might get a 4th or 5th with some retention but no where near a first.

Everyone knows that the final.two years of that contract is going to be real rough. Lots of hard miles on him and his style of play doesn't tend to age well.

I think they get much more than a 4th or 5th round pick for Anderson, especially with retention

I thought that the returns were low but the focus was on the young players they were developing (and Byram via trade).

I wanted to avoid the “Anderson is garbage, he only learned to skate 18 months ago and does not have opposable thumbs so he cannot even hold a hockey stick” type of comments that come from some Habs haters. LOL

I would be interested to see. I don't think many teams would bite for more than a third.

He is in a similar situation to Kadri. He might still be an effective player but at the end of the day his contract is too much and too long.

Habs have literally turned down a 1st plus for him multiple times. One was as late as the last TDL so you're wrong in thinking teams wjnt pay a premium for him

Avs need roster players, not prospects. I would think, should the Avs decide to make any deals involving their own roster players, they would want reliable middle-six types. But, I suppose the picks could be used to acquire that from other teams so, maybe this could work.

dumb are these trades... mtl does none of them.. matheson is a first pair defenseman and i would not trade him one for one for byram just silliness is your trade... I know he is not makar but he is so skilled and fast and has size and he is better than Byram in all ways....
