RHD to target this offseason

Description
A look at options that Anaheim might consider for a RHD to acquire this offseason. Obviously not all of them, only need one of the selected below. For fan bases from the teams traded with, feel free to let me know if the assessment is off or what you think their value is.

First target would be Dumba, I would give him 5+ x 5 to sign with Anaheim, but these other defenseman are experienced enough to not need a baby sitter and in a should be able to babysit our young LHD when they come up.
Transactions
1.
ANA
  1. Carlo, Brandon
  2. Reilly, Mike
Détails additionnels:
Target of this trade is Carlo. Its a difficult one to pull, but Boston will also need middle 6C with the probable departures of Bergeron and Krejic.

Problem being, just as they have minimal options at C, there isn't anything promising behind McAvoy and Carlo on the RHD depth chart.
2.
ANA
  1. Andersson, Rasmus
Détails additionnels:
Unsure what Calgary's needs are, Anaheim has young Centers, young LHD, and bottom 6 wingers as trade pieces as well as draft capital.

Only "big" departure this season is Milan Lucic in the sense that there is no heir apparent to do what Lucic does (as far as I can see). If Sutter is sticking around, a guy like McGinn would excel in his kind of system.

Unsure what to offer as I am not familiar with Calgary's needs.
CGY
3.
ANA
  1. Jokiharju, Henri
Détails additionnels:
Joker gets a worse rap than he deserves in Buffalo, and while he is known for his offense, he has really rounded out the defensive aspects of his game. I'd be willing to take a chance on him for a 2024 2nd.
BUF
  1. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (BOS)
4.
ANA
  1. Peeke, Andrew
Détails additionnels:
Peeke probably caps out at a 2nd line defensive RHD, but he would get the opportunity to play 1st pairing here with Fowler for a while. Not sure where he is at with Columbus and their needs, but I know Columbus needs centers at least in the top 6, again might be willing to do a deal based around Lundestrom instead of a pick.
CBJ
  1. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (BOS)
5.
ANA
  1. Marino, John
Détails additionnels:
Not sure how to pry Marino out of New Jersey, but they have two of the greatest defensive prospects sitting in their farm system and likely ready to go soon. They paid a 3rd and a stalled out prospect, i'm just going to put a 2nd as a placeholder for approximate value.

Wish Anaheim had been able to offer a similar package in the first place to land him from Pitt given our trading history with them.
NJD
  1. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (ANA)
6.
ANA
  1. Ristolainen, Rasmus
Détails additionnels:
I'm going to get flack from Ducks fans about why the hell I would bother looking into Risto as much as I am from Philly fans about lowballing them for him, but this is ultimately the point.

Philly thought they were buying a #1RHD capable of playing well in all zones, and they then signed him to a deal that reflected that. That turned out not to be the case, when asked to do too much, Risto falls apart. He is not meant for the PP, hasn't historically done well on the PK, and shouldn't be on the top pairing. He is paid too much for what he does, but that is not such a big problem for Anaheim during the length of his contract, provided Philly just wants to put it in their rearview mirror and forget it ever happened.

Anything more than a mid round pick and we look to other options.

Jokiharju has exactly 3 goals in each of his last 3 seasons and never eclipsed 20 points. Who exactly knows him as an "offensive d-man" and how quickly can I rip that GM off senseless?

VERY reasonable survey and assessment.

I'd like to reinforce your implied statement that the proffered trade values are MERE SUGGESTIONS.

Carlo I’d love if he didn’t have the concussions so that really scares me

Andersson is very very likely more expensive than we should be paying for one right now

Jokiharu is a no for me — I don’t think he is good enough offensively or defensively for us

I’d love Peeke for Cam’s partner, but you already know that

Marino I don’t have an opinion on as of right now

Ristolainen I’m out on, never been a fan of him and especially pass with that contract attached

The way Calgary fans talk about andersson it would be McTavish plus Drysdale plus terry

He would be VERY expensive. I'm not sure the cost but Anaheim fans won't like it.

Devils are looking for picks. Would have to be hockey trade if we extended Severson.

Based solely on the player and contract and not trade value, I’d rank my wants as Marino, Andersson, Severson, Dumba, Peeke and Carlo. Joki and Risto I’d pass on.

That said the only guy I’d trade a pretty penny for is Marino tho. And then 5 years ~5.5M for Severson or Dumba.

Marino will cost you more than you're willing to pay. I'd say go after Severson but he's either going home or going to chase a cup.

The Sabres likely need another righty before they move jokiharju, but I'm all for it. Would like to make our zone a less comfortable place for the other team. I don't think jokiharju is horrible, but he's an undersized (he might be 6 feet tall, but he's definitely small enough that he gets handled by bigger forwards) smooth skating, puck mover- but he doesn't add offense, he doesn't stand out in his own zone, and he will absolutely get muscled at times.

Was known for it in the lower leagues, its how he attracted attention to get drafted, obviously hasn't shown it since.

Fair enough. Dont think id trade for him on that premise though. 273 games later, he is what he is.

I wouldn't be looking to acquire him as an offensive D man, and he is rather far down the pecking order for targets, but he fits the age range and he has been getting better at the defensive side of things as he grows. He'll never be a shutdown D guy but he comes across as a serviceable minute muncher that isn't a total liability in his own end.

Yeah he's probably fine for the third pair, he got way more minutes than he shouldve cause the 3rd pair in BUF wqs largely un-useable in the 3rd period.

I mean….cmon bud. This is just obvious. There’s no way to think this offer is reasonable. It’s a F-.

let see, Boston has no real talent in the pipeline at C, is in serious need of a defensive middle 6 C that is young and cheap and under team control (hey look, that is Lundestrom) for when one or both of Krejic or Bergeron retire this offseason, and it moves additional cap out with Reilly, while giving you a young cheap depth D piece that is already familiar with your system.

Rather seems like it checks all the boxes for Boston to go do the Boston thing and sign a RHD replacement to Carlo for cheap, because that is what Boston does.

Again, he is 6th on the list of 7 guys I have identified, with Dumba being at the top of the list as a UFA signing. I didn't even include Severson and Mayfield because I think Mayfield won't come here and Severson is less of a fit, though may be better to get than Joker, will be a hell of a lot more in AAV.

So do you just not know who Brandon carlo is?

Lundestrom is an AHL player that was getting an NHL paycheck because he played for the worst team in the league. Carlo is part of the bruins core, on a ridiculously team friendly deal with four years of term left. That doesn’t get moved, let alone for next to nothing. At least have the courtesy to add a 24 first so it isn’t a laughable offer.

Peeke is not a first pairing defenseman, even paired with Zach Werenski. You will be disappointed by his results on the first pair, unless your goal is to tank again next season. Now, in a proper role on the second or third pair in a good system (something neither of our teams have had), he'd be quite solid. Probably could do better than a very late second for him.

Boston is going to have to strip itself of depth this offseason. Maybe Carlo doesn't move, but the team is going to be a shell of itself next season with or without him.

Yeah, he might get tossed in over his head for a bit if he came here, but the plan is to sunset Fowler to 2nd pairing where I think he and Peeke would be a good fit, and while I don't want to tank outright next season, even a Fowler Peeke top pairing would be better than what we saw this season.

I do! He’s the guy you’re saying is capable of middle six duties that had four goals this year. He isn’t a good NHL player. Carlo is. It’s just a really bad concept, and you know it.
