He probably won't be traded without retention. You are probably looking at the OEL and Kessel trades as a base idea

I'm starting to wonder if Jones and Chicago agree to mutually terminate his contract such that he can sign somewhere else at a sane cap hit.

Both parties can agree to terminate a contract and walk away without consequence. However, players don't typically want to, since any money still on the deal they don't get. In that case, the team has to buy them out on to get rid of them.

I think if he gets traded it'll be like the OEL trade, Chicago has to retain a bit for any team to consider

Sabres are not paying to take Seth Jones massive contract. Hawks are stuck with him

Did something happen that I'm missing? I doubt he elects to mutually terminate and I think they'd sooner just keep him than buy out his contract or retain anything substantial for 7 years. But, who knows what will happen. They might not care much about the consequences, at this point. They might care more about just moving on from Bowman's poor decisions. Which I wouldn't blame them for.

All I know is that if they continue to tank beyond this season and don't at least bring in a legit partner for him, he is probably going to be very miserable.

Yeah can't see that happening. And Kulich would probably get Chicago a dial tone anyway in this scenario.

Think Montreal would be willing to take him for something more along the lines of Matheson + Dadonov + 2nd + Ylonen but 1sts and top 10 prospects are likely off the table for that massive contract unless you are willing to eat like 2 mil or more for the next 8 years.

We can’t pay Dahlin & Power AND Jones
Just wouldn’t make sense for our Salary Cap structure

U seem to really love Kulich
Have u been watching him in Rochester??
I can read the score sheet to see that he’s producing at a decent pace, but i haven’t actually watched more than 2 Rochester games this year
So i was just wondering what you’re seeing in him

Yeah, I have the AHL/TV package for Rochester. Think Peterka just not as offensively gifted, but not by much.

Sounds like his ceiling is a 3C *IF* he can score some at the NHL level (which doesn’t sound like a sure thing)

Why is it that u seem to see a bottom6 guy as an untouchable?

He has 14pts in 22gms, he is one of the youngest players in the AHL. He is scoring at a better rate then Peterka was at this point. You obviously have No clue what you are talking about.

He has 14pts in 22gms, he is one of the youngest players in the AHL. He is scoring at a better rate then Peterka was at this point. You obviously have No clue what you are talking about.

There’s no reason for you to be a jerk
Do you see Kulich as a top6 player?
Bc you literally just said u thought he was less offensively gifted than Peterka, who is a 2nd liner
So it sounded like you did not see him as a top6 guy

Does it matter if he's a top 6 guy if he helps make are 3rd line very good. And yes he could grow into more especially if Skinner is gone.

          If he’s a top6 guy, then GREAT
          I’m not saying he isn’t
I was asking for YOUR opinion- and u said he was “not as offensively gifted” as Peterka

If he’s less offensively talented than a 2nd line guy,
what about him makes u think he can grow into a top6 quality player??
I’m asking sincerely, bc your 2 statements about him don’t seem to line up

So JJ Cozens Quinn at 21 and younger are just destined to be 2nd line guys and cannot get better and become 1st line players. So a kid who is 18 and starts on the 3rd line and grows can't move to the 2nd line or 1st. You play your little word games and try to sound smart. Same **** on Hockeybuzz. Never once said he couldn't grow from a 3rd line player, but I will sure say he will make are Team better on the 3rd line to start.

Both parties can agree to terminate a contract and walk away without consequence. However, players don't typically want to, since any money still on the deal they don't get. In that case, the team has to buy them out on to get rid of them.

is that your opinion or a rule? can players and team mutally end a contract then sign a new one the next day? there must be some kind of rules around contract termination. i just wonder how it regulates

Basically the only way for a contract termination is to have a breach of contract, something that happens that the player breaks team rules, and the NHL PA loses a grievance hearing. (You’ll have to click on the tweet to get all 4 parts)

If i’m not mistaken Stan gave Jones a full NMC so the only team Jones would likely agree to is Dallas as they were the only other team he would agree to sign an extension with back when the Hawks traded for him

Seth Jones had negative value as long as the cap doesn't go up to 95M

I'm starting to wonder if Jones and Chicago agree to mutually terminate his contract such that he can sign somewhere else at a sane cap hit.

I don't think the NHLPA / CBA permits this.
