SABRES Looking Good Great D pickups last couple of years
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Luguber</b></div><div>Oh yeah how stupid of me, forgot about Levi for a second 🙂 Hope he keeps developing in the right direction and becomes a serious #1.</div></div>
Lol, no worries
Sabres fans do have high expectations for Levi,
but it’s way too soon to tell about him
Young goalies are so hard to project
But hopefully he works out for us!

Eklund Nonsense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dr_Invictus</b></div><div>If you compare the GSVAs of just the Flames and the Sabres, the sabres clearly have more young offensive talent. GSVAs are regressed over 3 years, and slightly rated towards offense (because goal prevention is a harder matric to capture, so their are just less stats to pull from). Below are the GSVAs of all payers that played on both teams that had a GSVA greater than 1.0. The interesting part is that if you filter that same list strictly off their defensive component, you don't hit a Buffalo player until 7th on the list (Rasmus Dahlin 1.1). He's actually the only Buffalo player on that list to have a positive defensive rating and a GSVA over 1.0. And somewhat Ironically, Tage Thompsons defensive rating is -19.3 (worst of the bunch). Weegar, Backlund, Tanev, Coleman, Toffoli, Huberdedau, and Mangiapane were all better Defensively. Obviously Calgary had an entirely different issue (scoring). But my point is that both Tanev and Backlund are exactly what Buffalo needs. They are two exceptional defensive players who want to win a cup and Buffalo had the 26th Goals Against last year, and the 28th ranked PK. Scoring isn't their problem. If Buffalo can solve their D and goaltending, they will be hoisting the cup . I don't know why everyone thinks they are not primed to be a contender.
Markstrom will bounce back. I have never seen a goaltender get a case of the yips like that before. The guy went from Vezina caliber performance one year, to allowing 11 goals on the first shot of the game last year. It was 100% mental. Honestly, the change of scenery would probably bring him back to form.
Player GSVA
Tyler Toffoli 3.4
Rasmus Dahlin 3.2
Tage Thompson 2.9
MacKenzie Weegar 2.8
Jeff Skinner 2.7
Alex Tuch 2.7
Mikael Backlund 2.4
Rasmus Andersson 2.4
Elias Lindholm 2.2
Jonathan Huberdeau 1.8
Nazem Kadri 1.6
Blake Coleman 1.5
Andrew Mangiapane 1.4
Noah Hanifin 1.4
Dylan Cozens 1.3
Chris Tanev 1.3
Owen Power 1.2
Jack Quinn 1</div></div>
First of all, these analytics are ridiculous
Just for example:
According to your numbers, Kadri is barely better than Coleman & Skinner is better than Kadri
We both know that’s utter nonsense, so we can quit with that i hope
As for the ACTUAL POINT….
YOU even agree that we need to fix our goaltending
So adding 2 rentals without fixing the goaltending is a pointless endeavor that just leaves us losing in the playoffs & without future young talent that could actually be helping us get the Cup when we are truly ready to compete for it
Markstrom has been up & down for 4 years now,
AND he turns 34 mid-season
There’s no way to know if he’ll bounce back again,
or if his age is catching up to him & he’s falling off a cliff
I’m not saying he WILL fall off a cliff
I’m saying NEITHER OF US know & it’s a distinct possibility
The Sabres need a little more time to be legit contenders
This isn’t the year to trade our great young prospects for rentals- that would be dumb imo
We need to keep developing our good young talent,
just like we have been- bc we’re clearly on the right path
And if the *RIGHT* deal is there to be made,
then cool
But 2 good young assets for 2 rentals is a dumb move,
period

Bye to the non commited
Sabres decline imo
The trade doesn’t make sense for us UNLESS we were to upgrade the goaltending as well
Markstrom would actually make more sense to us than either Backlund or Hanifin
But with Markstrom having a down year last season, & being streaky in general the last few, idk that we’d be willing to give u guys what you’d want for him

Eklund Nonsense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dr_Invictus</b></div><div>1) It's pretty evident from the ACGM name and my post that I don't believe anything Eklund says.
2) After missing for 11 seasons, the sabres should be keen on taking a run at the cup. Those are two of the best shutdown players in the league for their respective positions. Maybe its not krebs, but at some point those prospects need roster spots, and next to Arizona, Buffalo has the deepest farm in the league.</div></div>
Those 2 players don’t make us Cup Contenders though
Not at all
And shipping out good young assets for rentals that will not help us reach our goal,
is just a waste of those young assets
Markstrom could make sense of it was at the right price though

1- this is what u get for believing ANYTHING u see on Hockeybuzz 🤣🤣🤣
2- i don’t see the Sabres being interested in your proposed trade- Backlund & Tanev are both solid players that could help us, but there’s no way we give up 2 young guys (especially not Krebs) for a couple “rentals”
ZERO CHANCE that trade is even close to happening

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabresparaavida</b></div><div>I don’t think the plan is to carry 3 goalies. They have too many defenseman right now for that. I think they carry 8D and 13F leaving room for 2 goalies. I expect Levi to start with UPL and Comrie battling it out in camp.</div></div>
We’ll see
I don’t think we waive UPL, bc he’ll likely get claimed
I know there’s some “fans” on here who don’t like him,
but the Sabres obviously do- and i highly doubt they’d wanna lose him for nothing
I suppose they could waive Comrie, but he’s the goalie with the most experience- & besides that being helpful to the kids, the Sabres like his analytics & I’m sure think he can be much better with better health
Levi could get sent down, but unless he has a horrible camp he’s probably a lock for the roster
That adds up to us carrying 3 goalies imo
I’d expect a defenseman or 2 to either be sent down or traded
We could also start with just 12 forwards & go from there

Drai Trade next offseason
I’ll pass on that as a Sabres fan
I really like Cozens, & he’s signed to a team-friendly deal
Draisaitl is sweet, but his next deal will be absurd
And it doesn’t make sense for our team build
Between Draisaitl’s new deal, & the same for Dahlin & Power,
we won’t be able to upgrade the goaltending
So bringing in Draisaitl would likely just be a waste

Agree & Disagree about the Sabres
While it’s true, we don’t “need” forwards
Backlund could fill a very specific role as our “shutdown” center, which would allow us to move Krebs into more of a 2way role & develop his offensive skills instead of having him focus (almost solely) on tough defensive matchups
It would have to be the right deal, at the right time though
