Description
Before I get reemed in the comments:
Jackets need a #1 center. Possibly have two soon in Kent Johnson/Cole Sillinger in a 1a/1b situation. I have no idea what Dallas needs, but I would like to gauge interest in either team on a trade between the two.

I'm a big fan of what Hintz could bring to a line with Gaudreau and Laine, but that would cost the Jackets a lot more than they would be happy with trading. However it get big fish you need to bring big bait.

That big bait is Cole Sillinger and this year's first unprotected. I think Bean is a decent young addition to that D-corps on the bottom pairing with powerplay and penalty kill potential (I had to hold 1 million for it to fit under the cap for Dallas.) The third is a little bit of a sweetener, but could be upgraded to the next year's second easily. Bemstrom is underappreciated in his defensive ability.

Adding in a goalie could be in the mix as well, but I think Tarasov has too much value as a simple addition and I think Korpisalo has to show he can return from his surgery and it was his hip causing his play to slip.

I don't think Bean would be of much interest to Dallas as they have Heiskenan, Suter, Lindell, Harley and Hanley as left handed defenders. I think they would have more interest in Boqvist or Peeke as righties.
Sillinger could be close to the production level of Hintz by the end of this year, I think jackets should be patient and just let their guys develop.

I'm a CBJ fan but that isn't enough for Hintz. You need to add another Grade A Prospect for them to even consider

I’d be looking for Kent, Jiricek, and a first. But then Lumbus should say no. So it’s prolly better we just keep Hintz 😘

Hintz is a great target, and player. But.......

He is a pending RFA, and given the recent Barzal extension, I see him getting around $9 million a year. Dallas I'd going to in tough to male that happen. Not sure the Jackets are in a better spot long term.

Keep the assets.

I don't think you get a '23 1st unprotected. But yeah, if we were to make this move, Silly would be part of it. Probably also need to add one of CC, Jiricek, or Mateychuk.

That'd be 2 A-prospects, a 1st, and sure, throw in a Bemstrom/ Foudy/ Bean.

This is the way I see it. Even with a 1C, this team also needs big growth from the D (it's arguably more important); so, with Hintz, I'm not sure I see CBJ being much better than they are now, at least for the next 1-2 years.

Just be patient. When you have an 18 year old who can have the kind of rookie year Silly had, you have something special. Plus, six more-cost controlled seasons is a big win - Hintz is about to hit UFA.

Not to mention, jury is still out on KJ being a C, let alone becoming a 1C.

Obv it isn’t my post, but I don’t think they’re giving up on him. I get the impression it’s a looking for a more established center right now thing. I do think they should just be patient. I don’t think anybody expected Johnny to fall into their laps, but it wouldn’t take much imagination to see Sillinger in that 1C spot for good by mid season. Keeping Hintz makes more sense for Dallas as well

Last nights Robertson contract kinda makes the statement that “just because other teams are throwing money at guys doesn’t mean we’re going to.” I do think Hintz will get paid, but if the front office sticks to their guns like they did this offseason it should be in the low to mid 8 million dollar range. If they roll Pavelski’s 5.5 million into what Hintz currently makes you’ve got 8.65 million which seems like a reasonable number and something Nill would do. I like Barzal, but that’s an over pay

Oh, I think Barzal is an overpay as well. But comparable are comparable, and if Hintz's agent is worth his salt, he is going to use that contract.

That’s fair. I just disagree on the mindset of well Barzal got 9+, so Hintz will too. Barzal isn’t the only comp out there. Robert Thomas got 8.15 and I could argue he’s a better player than Barzal

There is Stützle as well. Tage Thompson.

I think like an agent when it comes to this stuff.

The thing with Thomas, Thompson and Stützle is their sample sizes are smaller in comparison to Hintz, contracts signed with a thought process of they will repeat those years, or be better (which for Thomas and Stützle I expect..... Thompson is risky).

Hintz has been money for about 3 years now. And keeps getting better. I think that demand in light of all that will be closer to $9 million than some think.

I have been wrong before, but I am usually pretty close to ballpark on these things.

I think like a GM. Him and Pavs don’t produce nearly as much without Robertson. No state tax in Texas. We can trade you but teams that have cap space for you aren’t competitive. Etc. Stars front office is all about doing things the right way and Hintz seems to enjoy playing in Dallas. They’ll negotiate a deal that works for both sides. Which is likely somewhere between Thomas and Barzy

I thought about adding Tarasov as it always seems like Dallas needs a goalie, but the Jackets can't afford to trade him away without another blue chip goalie prospect in Cleveland and he would probably be the only untouchable for Hintz. Corson Ceulemans was my other choice and I though he would make more sense.

First thing, thank you. The Jackets are not giving up on him, but it's the classic you have to give something to get something. In order to get a Roope Hintz, you have to give A level prospects and really I think of Sillinger as a step above that A level seeing as he has a full year in the big league and is probably starting this year at 2nd line center starting the year at 19.

I view Sillinger as a credible threat to take the 1C position in Columbus in a year or 2 and him and Kent Johnson can be an interchangeable two headed monster down the middle for years. However, if CBJ ownership or Jarmo decide they want an already developed and proven 1C who is more defensively minded than Laine or Gaudreau like Hintz, Sillinger will need to be the headliner going back. KJ is up there on the trade targets for such a player, but Sillinger has put his game together faster and there is no question that he can play center.

Def agree that Hintz would be amazing between Johnny and Laine. Don’t want to give him up though 😛

I wouldn't either. I think he's one the most underappreciated players in this league, outside of Dallas of course.
