Finding a trade Brenden Dillon

Description
I just want to say that I really like Dillon and what he brings to a team. I just think that Samberg can do what he does and that the jets need to move a veteran Dman in order to make room for Samberg, Heinola, Stanley, Gawanke and Kovacevic as well as create cap space to add to the F crop.
I'm basing the trade value on what the jets paid last season, which is 2 second round picks. With being one year older and one year closer to UFA, I value him at a 3rd and 4th.

On the contrary I don't see why the Devils would do this at all. Dillon is 31 and signed past this season, the Devils have a more than competent left side in Siegenthaler, Graves, and Smith/Bahl, with Hughes replacing Graves next year. If Fitzgerald thought we needed an upgrade at LD, he would've done something already. Plus cap space.

Devils don't need LD and Dillon wouldn't even make the roster at RD.

Not too beat a dead horse, but I kind of wonder what a Dubois, heinola, Gus to Montreal brings back, and you ride and die with a bunch of vets with 2 years left on there deal, maybe even add a few more, if your a believer in this nuclues.

I could see a Tatar for Dillon deal if NJ doesn’t want to resign Graves next off season. Dillon is a hell of a lot better than Brendan Smith.

Dillon is worth his contract but there is no reason for teams give up picks to help (or any other team) with their cap. Two years at 3.3m is difficult trade in a cap strapped league, without taking cap back
Heck 7m 70 point Pacieoritty was given away for nothing
Leafs need cap and I betcha are having trouble giving away 50 point 3.5m X 1. Kerfoot .
So, let's not confuse "on ice " value with "trade" value

Devils don't want Smith to be their 3rd pairing Dman, they want guys like Bahl, Okhotyuk and Vukojevic to push him out of that slot. He's there as a cushion if we can't have a guy step up.

Yes, adding Dillon would likely make the Devils defence better, but the defence is already good enough that leaving a spot open for the Utica kids to earn is better and cheaper.

I only suggested it because the devils might do it if they could get a better return for Graves on the open market and then flip Dillon next off season

I know the analytics crowd loves DeMelo but he's the guy to move from the backend, the Jets need to build some size back into their defense.

I don’t believe NJD would be an option unless they have an injury. It’s already a little crowded on blueline for 2022-23. Maybe for 2023 off-season if we don’t extend Graves and Bahl, Okhotiuk don’t work out.

The Sabres aren't short on left d. I'll play devils advocate for a minute. If dahlin is successful on the right side, playing with Samuelsson, that's our first pair. I like the idea of power with lybushkin as our second pair, that gives power a defensive partner that plays physical. That leaves our third pair as jokiharju paired with Bryson although clague and pilut could also see time. I don't love the idea of an all-soft/small third pair, and its far easier to find left d than right. So I kinda like the idea of a Dillon partnered with jokiharju. I don't hate Bryson, and I'm curious to see if pilut added any tricks in the khl, but Dillon seems like a better fit to me.

I think a 31-year-old Brenden Dillon would be of more interest to a contending team than up-and-comers like Ottawa/NJD/Buffalo. I think you get the best value for him at the deadline this year, when you can sell him as "a strong veteran presence on an affordable deal that you get for two playoff runs" - as opposed to now when teams are being extremely precious about cap space and guys like Dillon don't stand out as sexy options.

Does Dillion play on RD? Is he good at that position?

If he is, then yes he could be of interest for the Sens

Jets can afford to keep him, they have the cap space
this move is to create a roster space for younger D

Yes he can and Im sure he's fine at it
Too much is put on left side vs right side IMO
The red wings won a cup with one right shot player, not just dman

You're right that for many players it doesn't matter that much, but for some it does! Some players are listed LW/RW, some are even W/C and can play every forward position but some struggle when they're not playing their natural position.

A site like CF is somewhat reliable but not 100% exact so it's better to ask fans who watch the player 82 times a year!
