Description
For the 3-way trade

Dallas out:
2022 1st, Guri, and Faksa
Dallas in:
Hronek, 2023 2nd, and capspace

Detroit out:
Hronek and 2023 2nd
Detroit in:
Guri and Petry

Montreal out:
Petry (retained)
Montreal in:
Faksa and 2022 1st

For everything else
Palat is probably an overpay, but might help Seguin now that he will be 100%(ish). The third is a checking line. The fourth is an energy line. Wyatt is a 9 game test. Raffl is a depth signing for injuries or fill ins. Namestnikov is a Swiss Army knife.

Im probably off on a few things, but really… what do I know. I’m just your average ACGM.

How far off am I?

Detroit doesn't want Petry for free and we're certainly not downgrading Hronek to replace him with 34 year old redeye. Insanely hard pass.

If Montreal would retain 2.5 million on petry I'd be interested but I don't want to move hronek to do it. We need to add to the d core and thus doesnt really do that. Its not bad value wise though.

The return for Detroit isn't going to get that done. The Dallas 1st would need to be headed to the Wings to move the needle. I like the idea of the three way trade between these teams though.

Reportedly that is false. Detroit is a front runner for Petry.

Does it make sense though, that's certainly worth debating.

Your statement is false. Detroit “recently” inquired but weren’t interested without retention per reports near TDL. Everything since has either referenced this without the explanation of retention or is phrased “recently”. Nothing says Detroit is a front runner except Jeff’s birth certificate.

The one thing we know for sure is that Yzerman’s FO is tight lipped. The only shred of info being leaked that was creditable was JD Burke from EP reporting that our FO coveted Seider pre-draft. This report came out roughly within 12 hours of the draft and a few insiders on HFB speculated such a few days prior.

Sure, it could leaked from the Habs but again logically why would Montreal not paint a positive picture? If I was try to maximize assets I would use this tactic. What we do know is that during the TDL it was reported we inquired and only wanted him with retention per various reports like LeBrun.

I’ve also recently heard Petry tied to Detroit. It doesn’t make sense for Detroit without a package and retention. Also, Hronek was in the rumor mill within the past year. It’s an attempt at putting plausible moving pieces together. Guri was one of the worst possible players in Bones’s coaching system. He’s a solid player that needs help on his small game.

I get it, seems like every year a Michigan defender is tied to us. A few years ago Trouba, then Krug, now Petry. Yzerman inquired with Winnipeg about Trouba but didn’t like the asking price. Not much confirmation of even Detroit’s FO inquiring about Krug as a FA.

They aren't in on Petry!!! Petry is from the Detroit area and lazy people make that connection because it's easy. If you are referring to what LeBrun this is what he actually said "I'm told Detroit is a possible destination." You can interpret that how ever you want but I see that as LeBrun not wanting to take ownership of a very general statement.

Yeah then he changed it the next day in the Athletic article saying "I'm told they are a potential fit" Whatever the hell that means. I think this BS is being driven by the Montreal FO to drum up interest. Just like when Eric Engels leaked our supposed interest in him at the deadline. You know: because Stevie Y is such a gossiper.

MTL won’t retain on his contact petry @ 6.25 M is a good deal no matter what the haters say besides the first half of last season petry has been great .. This isn’t 10-15 years ago when players were continuously getting beat up and careers were shortened players play late into their thirties at a pretty high level .. If Petry gets traded he’ll get a first and a b-b+ prospect or an A-A+ prospect and a second rounder .. Not saying it’s going to be to detroit but wherever he ends up .. hopefully just stays in MTL for the younger guys to learn from

I just don't understand the motive for Detroit to make this deal. You only get older on D, you can argue which player is better until you blue in the face cause is isn't a gap worth the 2nd round pick. And Gurianov doesn't move the needle at all for Detroit just adding to the glut of winger the Red Wings have. So in total this deal cost the Wings a haul, doesn't address any of their needs (top 6 C, Top 4 LD) and adds to areas of the team already deep in.

As for the general debate about Petry it seems like the wings would acquire him if the price was low enough but I can't see the Habs moving him for the cost the Wings would want to pay. He just doesn't improve the team enough to warrant any major assets traded.

I think this BS is being driven by the Montreal FO to drum up interest. Just like when Eric Engels leaked our supposed interest in him at the deadline. You know: because Stevie Y is such a gossiper.

Stevie Y and Nill are both tight lipped, so I think this is a Montreal leak. For Lebrun to say something leads me to believe that there is or was interest. You don’t get credibility for spreading BS.
