Arizona Fans How Much
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marked_Difference</b></div><div>Unless there is a demanded trade from Keller or Hayton both would need to be a massive overpay as they are not on the trade block.
My guess on massive overpays that the Coyotes have to consider for a trade:
Keller = <strong>4 A-grade assets</strong>,
Hayton = <strong>2 A-grade assets and a B-grade asset</strong>,
A-grade assets- 1st round picks, A rated prospects, top 6 forwards, top pair defenseman
B-grade assets- 2nd round picks, A- or B rated prospects, middle six forwards, bottom 4 defenseman
Schmaltz in an interesting trade option. He is prime career with a team friendly contract with term, and he is a top six forward on most teams. Can play C but better on the wing.
Maybe 2023 1st (BOS) or 2024 1st (TOR) and a couple of A-/B prospects or a prospect and a decent roster player (Kampf or Liljegeren type)</div></div>
Is the Schmaltz contract really team friendly? The cap hit isn't awful, but the contract is backloaded so in actual money he's being paid $8 million on average each of the last three years. That can't help his value. Another issue other clubs probably will have is with his durability. The ask you threw out there seems a little high.

I'd pass. His defensive analytics are just brutal - 42.6% Corsi at even strength as well as a 43.39% xGF during the regular season, and it got worse during the playoffs. Add to that his 23.4% shooting percentage will very likely regress.

That's not a realistic return for Provorov, at least from the Wings. They are in no position to start trading away high picks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy12Bob</b></div><div>If Petry were to be traded to Detroit it (more or less) forces a Hronek trade and we'd get a 34 year old expensive player in decline instead of a 24 year old cheaper player still improving. And with Detroit having no RD prospects apart from Tuomisto we could well be in a situation of having to acquire a new top-4 RD in only two years time.
Petry makes absolutely no sense at all from a team building perspective neither does it fit with any other move Yzerman has done earlier. If Hronek is to be replaced it should be with a better and younger player not a 34 year old declining one on a massive monster of a contract.</div></div>
I suppose it doesn't make sense if you don't see the value in having a good, veteran to pair with Edvinsson to help his development. I'm not all that worried about the contract, especially if there's a bit of retention, because the Wings won't be stressed by the cap (in all likelihood) during its duration. You obviously like Hronek, I get it, but at this point I'm skeptical that there are any RHD in the organization that will end up being long term pieces aside from Seider.

I don't think he should "give" Hronek away either. Hypothetically, if the Wings acquire Petry and Dallas doesn't re-sign Klingberg. Dallas then calls up Stevie and offers a pick swap this year (Wings get #18 and the Stars get #52) and a 2nd in next years draft for Hronek would you take it?

But if we did get Petry I'd wonder when Hronek is getting traded. Then I'd start wondering what the hell Yzerman is doing. Sounds more like Ken Holland.</div></div>
I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Yzerman would like a good, veteran D to pair with Edvinsson, and at the same time not be a believer in Hronek. If you can acquire Petry without giving up any premium assets, perhaps with a bit of salary retained I'm all for it. If he trades Hronek it wouldn't break my heart either (depending on the return), but obviously I'm not a huge Hronek guy...there are plenty of Wings fans here that seem to love the guy who will disagree, and that's fine. It's part of the fun of Cap Friendly.

The return for Detroit isn't going to get that done. The Dallas 1st would need to be headed to the Wings to move the needle. I like the idea of the three way trade between these teams though.

I think it's important to find a solid, veteran RHD to pair with Edvinsson so I'd be fine with acquiring Petry in a deal similar to the one Tampa proposed. I'd actually like to find a solid, veteran LHD to pair with Seider as well...it's insane how good he was this past year playing with the guys that were his partners. Putting the young, building blocks in the best position to succeed should be a high priority.

It seems like I'm in the minority of Wings fans, but I have no interest in giving up any assets for Schmidt. I'd be far more inclined to take on Petry, despite his age, if it were a choice between the two and the prices weren't all that different.

Is he though, with that contract? Three years at nearly $6 per is pretty bad. I just can't imagine anyone would give that to him if he were a FA this off-season. If he only had one year left on his deal I could totally see giving up a decent pick, but with three left I can't see it, at least without retention. The more I've thought about it, it seems like Dumoulin would be preferable to Schmidt and Pettersson since he only has one year left. Pettersson more preferable to Schmidt because his cap hit is $2 million lower. Do you think the Wings will be open to adding a vet LHD with term in, at least longer than two years?

Rookie LHD in da house
I'll be surprised if Edvinsson isn't in the opening night lineup. Seider had an extra year of development due to playing in the SHL during the covid season, so I don't expect it to be as smooth a transition for Edvinsson, but everything coming out of the organization insinuates they expect him to make the club out of camp.

Hague would be interesting, but bringing in another young LHD when Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder, Buium, McIsaac, Sebrango, etc. are on the cusp of being ready doesn't seem the best use of assets. I suppose it all depends on if they think there is a really good shot at getting three really quality guys from that group.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>It's way too early in the process to be offer sheeting someone. The offer sheet should be the piste de resistance if used at all. Chiarot wasn't that good this year and at 31 he isn't going to sign for 2yrs It's going to probably take 5 to 7 to get him to even consider Detroit. Detroit should hold on to Suter while he is more of a 3C than a 2C but I'm not sure Monahan can oust him as Detroit's 2C. Yzerman has proved he is completely on another level when it comes to drafting so I'm not worried about it. But Lambert's draft value looks like a roller coaster and probably shouldn't go inside the top 10.</div></div>
I sort of disagree about it being too early to throw out an offer sheet. I agree with not offer sheeting Strome, it sounds like Chicago doesn't have any interest in qualifying him so I'd imagine you could get him for less than a 2nd via trade. I would seriously consider giving an offer sheet to a guy like Timothy Liljegren. Cap squeezed team, only 23, coming off a really solid year, former 1st round pick, plus beyond Seider and Hronek there is very little RHD depth in the organization (unless you think Lindstrom is a long term piece - I don't). Every Toronto AGM has his signing for $1.5-2.5 million. Given the cap flexibility the Wings have I'd be really interested to see what the Leafs would do if Liljegren got 4 X $4 million offer sheet.
