Créé par: Jco5ta5

Description
Toronto gets:
-One of Delia or Lankinen who can be serviceable backups and will only cost $800k-1M at most.
-$5.8M in cap space, which costs them Knies.
-keeps their limited draft picks

Hawks gets:
-A 1B/2A goalie to aid in the tank/rebuild while Soderblum and Commesso continue to progress
-A prospect likely to play in NHL in Knies
-A defenseman we don't need but can flip for assets or just keep for the 1 year while others sit in Rockford and progress

Win-win.

Easy no for the Leafs and the reason should be clear in your description of it. You see Mrazek as a 1B/2A goalie. If NHL teams see him as that, it won't cost a big piece like Knies to move him.

Mrazek will cost like a 2nd to flip at the absolute worst (and likely won't cost even that if anything at all) and Holl has positive value, especially in the garbage RHD market (he isn't bad guys, he is just a 3rd pair Dman lol)

So...Toronto DOESN'T want to get rid of Mrazek and DOESN'T want $5M in cap space? Huh...
When they get rid of Marleau it cost them a 1st rounder. It also cost them a 2nd for Ritchie. Interesting.

Marleau cost a 1st because a buyout was required by him. Ritchie was part of a bigger trade in which the Leafs got a more impactful player than RItchie back. Your comparables aren't very comparable.

And again, your own description is betraying you. You youself see Holl as a positive asset that the Hawks would be able to flip for assets. If the Leafs wanted the cap space, they would be able to do it with an asset returning according to you.

Marleau had a full NMC and as a post 35 contract his buyout would cost the full AAV so he would only waive to a team that could swallow the whole cap hit by buying him out. Apples to oranges. It was also 6.25 million too

Knies is really good, possibly(?) their best prospect so theyre not doing that. Would be nice if there was a general consensus but some leaf fans still think someone will pay for Mrazek lol.

I don't see how this is a bad deal. Toronto gets $5M in cap space. Everyone on this GD site trades Mrazek for rolled up used hockey tape balls. Not a single person is addressing why this is bad. Y'all just saying its bad. Defend yourself. How is $5M in cap space not necessary for Toronto to stay afloat? There's also a potential albeit minor upgrade in backup goalie. This can allow you to resign Campbell and replace Holl with someone cheaper saving even more cap space.

Maybe I should've tossed in Patrick Kane into the mix.

I have described how it is bad. You yourself described how it is bad. I'll repeat myself since you didn't want to answer them in my original posts. You yourself see Mrazek as a 1B/2A goalie. If NHL teams see him as that, it won't cost an asset like Knies to move him. You yourself see Holl as a positive asset that the Hawks could flip. If the Leafs wanted that cap space, they would just flip him for an asset. Your own descriptions of what the Hawks are getting betrays your AGM and shows why it's a terrible deal for the Leafs.

I said 1b/2a...which depends on the team. He's a 1B for Chicago because they have no goalies. He's likely a 2A on most other teams. Knies is the cost for GIVING YOU $5.8m IN CAP SPACE this year (and $3.8M the next year) while also allowing you to keep your draft picks. Toronto has 3 total picks this year. You can keep em. I'm opening up cap space for you. That costs Knies.

We see Mrazek as a dump goalie who can take a beating for a couple years while we take our time developing goalie prospects. But we don't need to trade for a mediocre goalie or pay $3.8mil for one. We can do that cheaper and easier in free agency.

You are very stuck in your own opinion.

Holl is not a cap dump. He has positive value, not negative. You can’t just add him to a trade and be like “I want Knies because I’m taking this player” when said player is worth something. Plenty of other teams would pay for Holl, we don’t have to pay to send him to Chicago.

Mrazek is a cap dump, yes. But would not cost MATTHEW KNIES to get rid of. He will cost about the equivalent of a 2nd rounder, at the most, to dump. Another thing that doesn’t make sense is: in your description you called Mrazek a “1B/2A”. If that is how Mrazek is viewed across the league, he won’t even cost a 2nd to move. In fact, if that’s how he’s perceived, he would likely have positive value.

Daily Reminder:
Just because a player makes money and plays for the Maple Leafs, does not necessarily mean they are a cap dump and need assets to move.

Also there is a very real chance that he doesn't even get a backup position for CHI if they decide to go with anyone else. In which case he would be put on waivers, bought out, or scratched.

The Leafs could buyout Mrazek, save about $2.8M and move Holl for a late round pick.
Look at that, $4.8M to spend and we still have Knies!

Don’t act like Chicago would be doing the Leafs any favours in this deal. It’s terrible.

I disagree with you. I don't see Holl as a positive asset. I see him as a lateral move. Nearly everyone "has value". He can be exchanged for a 5th or 6th rounder at the TDL as a depth defender. **** you could even retain 50% on that. He's a place filler which the Hawks don't need but could take on the contract in order to acquire a higher end prospect. Hawks can easily tell Toronto they won't take contracts and have fun exiting the first round next year against either Tampa or Florida since you're not winning the division. Hawks could also tell you to pound sand and we can just put one of our defensive prospects up in the NHL.

Also, jokes on you. I just got off the phone with my friend Kyle Dubas and he thinks it's a sneaky good deal.

I think Mrazek costs a late 2nd to dump and Holl I don't feel is only a dump because TOR want (not need) the space. Mrazek and Muzzin are the big cap earners they would really like to move on but I don't think they consider moving what some consider to be their top prospect.

If we needed to move TJ for cap space, I wouldn't be prepared to move Reichel.

Well, honest question, if Holl isn't a cap dump then why are TOR fans chomping at the bit to get rid of him? And why have I seen zero interest from any team in acquiring him for anything of value other than as an auxiliary piece to a bigger trade or as a cap dump?

You'd be spending money on Mrazek's contract for the next 4 years. Money you don't have.
