Description
Toronto gets:
-One of Delia or Lankinen who can be serviceable backups and will only cost $800k-1M at most.
-$5.8M in cap space, which costs them Knies.
-keeps their limited draft picks

Hawks gets:
-A 1B/2A goalie to aid in the tank/rebuild while Soderblum and Commesso continue to progress
-A prospect likely to play in NHL in Knies
-A defenseman we don't need but can flip for assets or just keep for the 1 year while others sit in Rockford and progress

Win-win.

I disagree with you. I don't see Holl as a positive asset. I see him as a lateral move. Nearly everyone "has value". He can be exchanged for a 5th or 6th rounder at the TDL as a depth defender. **** you could even retain 50% on that. He's a place filler which the Hawks don't need but could take on the contract in order to acquire a higher end prospect. Hawks can easily tell Toronto they won't take contracts and have fun exiting the first round next year against either Tampa or Florida since you're not winning the division. Hawks could also tell you to pound sand and we can just put one of our defensive prospects up in the NHL.

You don't see Holl as a positive asset but say you could move him for positive assets, picks. Your own thinking doesn't make sense. If he could be moved for an asset, why would the Leafs be moving him to a team you say doesn't want him?

You'd be spending money on Mrazek's contract for the next 4 years. Money you don't have.

Paying Matthews Knies to save an extra $1M or so a year would be the dumbest possible thing Dubas could do this off-season.

I think Mrazek costs a late 2nd to dump and Holl I don't feel is only a dump because TOR want (not need) the space. Mrazek and Muzzin are the big cap earners they would really like to move on but I don't think they consider moving what some consider to be their top prospect.

If we needed to move TJ for cap space, I wouldn't be prepared to move Reichel.

Well yeah, because we aren't a contending team. But if we were a contending team with a pretty complete roster that needed the cap space more than the assets in order to make key signings, I wouldn't be this against moving a top prospect or a late 1st round pick to get it done.

Not the same comparison. And Bowman absolutely DID do these trades when Hawks were winning. Teravainen with Bickell to Carolina for cap space is a prime example.

We see Mrazek as a dump goalie who can take a beating for a couple years while we take our time developing goalie prospects. But we don't need to trade for a mediocre goalie or pay $3.8mil for one. We can do that cheaper and easier in free agency.

If you don't need him, stop creating threads that trade for him, then get annoyed when TOR fans don't bite on your ridiculous prices and ideas.

Simple as that.

I don't see how this is a bad deal. Toronto gets $5M in cap space. Everyone on this GD site trades Mrazek for rolled up used hockey tape balls. Not a single person is addressing why this is bad. Y'all just saying its bad. Defend yourself. How is $5M in cap space not necessary for Toronto to stay afloat? There's also a potential albeit minor upgrade in backup goalie. This can allow you to resign Campbell and replace Holl with someone cheaper saving even more cap space.

Maybe I should've tossed in Patrick Kane into the mix.

This is the funniest damned thing ive seen on this site in a while. Hawks fans and everyone else have like 100 threads a day where they demand leafs assets like 1sts or high end prospects and then whine like this when leafs fans say thats hilarious and their logic is flawed and their examples, like you have in this thread, are paper thin justifications they can use to get those assets.
If the leafs only option to move mrazek in a trade is a premium asset, they'll buy him out. Or move him with a nothing prospect and a 5th for a 4th amd a 7th while retaining a mill for less term than the buy out.
And then trade holl for a positive asset.
Your proposal is terrible and poorly thought out

I only do it in response to the TOR fans trying to get assets from CHI or giving inadequate compensation for taking on their cap dumps every 2 minutes. I don't do it because I actually want Mrazek. And this isn't even my thread.

Well, honest question, if Holl isn't a cap dump then why are TOR fans chomping at the bit to get rid of him? And why have I seen zero interest from any team in acquiring him for anything of value other than as an auxiliary piece to a bigger trade or as a cap dump?

Honest question, why do other fans take the word of some leafs fans when they say one of their own players is bad, but never when they say the player isnt bad?

Why title a post "Does this work for TOR?" and then get really defensive when people (including non Leafs fans) explain why it doesn't?

Literally look at all the TOR ACGM's from just today alone and see how many of them have Holl or Mrazek being dumped on CHI. There are probably at least 10 of them if not more.

So...Toronto DOESN'T want to get rid of Mrazek and DOESN'T want $5M in cap space? Huh...
When they get rid of Marleau it cost them a 1st rounder. It also cost them a 2nd for Ritchie. Interesting.

Marleau was a $6.25 million buyout, given that he did not want to play for Carolina.

The Ritchie deal got the Leafs Lyubushkin back, a rental top-6 Dman, which in itself is probably worth a 3rd. They moved up from a 3rd to a 2nd (which would probably cost you a 4th round pick on draft night) to move Ritchie.

Before getting on to Mrazek, how is it that Holl has value and the Blackhawks could flip him for something, but the Leafs would have to pay to get rid of him?

And on Mrazek: yes he's overpaid. But, he's still a serviceable NHL goalie, playing a position that doesn't have a lot of quality available, has a reasonable buyout, and only 2 years on his contract. The Leafs may have to attach a sweetener to get rid of him, but Knies is pushing it way too far.

I'm saying a majority of fans of TOR seem to think both of them are bad. And I know that from what I have seen I don't want anything to do with either of them. But TOR fans chomping at the bit to get rid of them is just another example of what makes them cap dumps.

The majority around here is basically like 4 guys who post 2 threads a day each. And they want to get rid of them for cap reasons usually.
And even if a teams fans think a guy is bad, it's easy enough to check that if it's true, and with holl it simply isnt.
Like, the majority of sabres fans thought ristolainen was good, the majority of ducks fans think gibson is good etc etc, that doesnt mean anything if they're actually wrong.

No, a debate is when people tell you why its bad and then you debate their points instead of jumping right into insulting the fan base and telling them nuh uh they are wrong. That's why youre getting labled as a whiner

Im just looking at how that turned out. I get moving futures to win now and I'm all for that but moving a top prospect when you can move a late 2nd or even buy him out doesn't seem a clever idea to me.
