with the explanation it makes sense. it was a delayed offside then they tagged up.

It's a legal goal, the explanation from Friedman and co. sums it up perfectly, does it look weird, yes, is it still legal, yes

yeah great time to enforce the exact definition of the offside rule game 1 of the WCF when in the rest of the season that would have been offside. I don't care if he wasn't actually touching the puck it was millimeters away from his stick he had control of it

It's the right call by the ref and we've never really had one of thes situations before, sucks that you had to be one of the first teams to witness but it's a logical rule and a good goal

This same situation has happened before many times and it has been ruled onside consistently.

Smith has a .782 sv% in game ones this year; with 13 goals on 70 shots.

And yet he’s got a solid stat line and has been a rock for the Oilers success this year (postseason). I’ve been critical of Smith and while he still deserves most of the fair criticism, he’s always deserving of some praise due to his incredible bounce back play and coming up big in the larger moments.

Still though… I don’t think you can afford to hand out anymore games on a silver platter with the Oilers flat starts/ Smiths weak goals. Especially if the Oil can take down the Avs - you cannot afford to lose game 1 in the finals (continuing the trend).

Pretty impressive timeline to go from rebuild to Conference Finals 4 years later. Should give MTL fans hope as Jeff Gorton has his hands over this team with Drury’s TDL moves pushing them over the top.

Not that it's a "fluke", but getting all three of Trouba, Panarin and Fox because they only wanted to play in NY helps. The high picks (Andersson, Kravtsov, Lafrenière, Kakko) they got in their "rebuild" aren't contributing much in their current run. It's a rebuild that turned into just a retool.

No teams are perfect, everyone has flaws, bad contracts, I’m impressed with how well they rebuilt.

Still have some really good prospects in Othmann, Cuylle, Robertson, Jones, plus a young core of Miller, Lafreniere, Kakko, Schneider, contributing right now.

I like the makeup of this team, for me, I’m impressed with the rebuild, IMO it was.

This is where McDavid's playoffs points would put him on the Habs regular season scoreboard. Not sure if I have to laugh or cry.

Good thing it doesn’t matter if you care, nor does it matter what you think. This rule is black and white. He didn’t touch it, therefore it’s onside, and it woulda been onside had this happened in an Arizona vs. Buffalo game in December. There’s no subjective decision here for the ref to screw up. It should count, it did count, it was right that it counted.
