everyone is talking about what MSL is doing with habs, but is know one watching Oilers games? Jay Woodcroft has transformed the Oilers and unlike MSL Woodcroft has gotten the Oilers from outside a playoff stop to very comfortably in 2nd in the pacific

What are you talking about? Marner has specifically said he wants to play in front of 1/18,800 of the fans he plays in front of Toronto now

There, fixed it for you.

Signing Zaitzev, Marleau, Martin, Polak, etc

Not drafting anyone good outside of the first round.

Refusing to get a good defenseman to play with Rielly (which just so happens to be a big problem people have with Dubas, even though he did get one in Brodie).

Marleau was a move most everyone loved at the time. It didn’t pan out but it wasn’t a bad idea. Zaitsev sucks I’ll agree there but moving Connor Brown was beyond dumb. Polak was average and Martin does what he does which I get the analytics obsessed don’t like but any team that wins needs a guy like Martin

Polak was a 1 year deal so I will give him a pass on that. The other 3 god why

Then you got his drafting

Like look at all the misses and rn were paying for that.

Still wont forgive him for not making the Miller + McDonagh trade after the Leafs were having a record breaking season (till now) and decided not to reward their hard work

I think the more experience he gets the better chance he has of becoming a Gm like those two

As recently we have seen he can make some good trades and find diamonds in the rough in later draft rounds and free agency. His contracts have also got much better from where they were when he first started.

It's very hard to be better than those 2 but it would be nice.

Marleau would have been quite a good signing if it was only 2 year. But everyone knew that signing him into the year where they had to sign Matthews and Marner was not a good idea.

Connor Brown was a 4th liner in Toronto and it was a neccesary move.

Polak wasn't as bad a signing as the other 3, I agree.

Martin was a fine player at league mimimum, not 2.5 mil lol.

Once he perfects the art of trades and contracts he will be very close to being up there with those two. As his drafting has been getting better as of late

Especially these last 2 years.

1. Getting rid of Phaneuf and Kessel was a huge move for us. That team with them at the core was going nowhere.

2. Trading for Freddie who should still be here

3. Signed Trevor Moore who should still be here

4. Signed Marchment who should still be here

Comparing these, I'd definitely say that the cons outweigh the pros.

Imagine never moving Phaneuf or Kessel… where are we now? That alone was a huge win. Lou’s time here was a wash in the end but certainly better than Nonis or Burke who were beyond awful

Like in retrospect Lou was good in 1 area bad in many others....

His drafting (besides round 1) terrible

His FA signings mostly bad

His trades 50/50 (Was willing to give away Kessel for nothing, Dubas luckily took over that **** except Lou made him retanin....)

His TDL acquisitions...Yeah lets just forget about those

His key guy contracts good

Any GM would've done it honestly. Back then they were smack dab in the middle of a rebuild.

Ironically it was Dubas who did the Kessel trade not Lou....

Lou's only contribution in that trade was accepting Pittsburgh's request for retention. But thanks to Dubas we got to use Kapenan for a while.

Will give Lou the Phaneuf trade as somehow we got out of his deal lul.

Stanley Cup Playoffs clinching scenarios for Thursday:

The Florida Panthers will clinch the Atlantic Division title and the top seed in the Eastern Conference if they defeat the Detroit Red Wings in any fashion and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs in any fashion OR if they get one point against the Red Wings and the Lightning defeat the Maple Leafs in regulation.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will clinch at least the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Division if they defeat the Lightning in regulation and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the Boston Bruins in any fashion.

The Carolina Hurricanes will clinch at least the No. 2 seed in the Metropolitan Division if they get at least one point against the Winnipeg Jets.

The New York Rangers will clinch at least the No. 2 seed in the Metropolitan Division if they get at least one point against the New York Islanders.

The Calgary Flames will clinch the Pacific Division if they defeat the Dallas Stars in any fashion.

The Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues will clinch a Central Division No. 2 vs. No. 3 First-Round matchup if the Wild get at least one point against the Vancouver Canucks.

Dubas was the one (well, along with Mark Hunter, when they shared Duties as interm GM's) that moved Kessel.

Though I will agree Lou was far better than Burke and Nonis.

with the ridiculous amount hype Caulfield its makes it seem like he is the type of player that can carry at team even though is isn't, if Caulfield wasn't in a big market team like Montreal he would be talk about probably the same as Kyle Connor

what does this have to do with my point? the lowest the Oilers were this year 21st in the league. I wouldn't want the Oilers to get Wright if they were that bad anyway our centre core of McDavid-Drai-Nuge-McLeod already stacked and one of the best if not the best in the league
