Chara would be more playoff insurance in case of injuries, i know risto isnt an amazing player but the leafs are getting pushed around way too often and could use more anger on the back end

yeah, if the leafs had risto the back end would be really angry at all the goals scored against them because risto is one of the worst defensive players in the NHL and chases guys to make hits leaving scoring lanes wide open

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is no way the Flyers are getting that for Ristolainen and, at least in my opinion, he does not provide the Leafs with an upgrade at all. That goes 10 fold for Chara, who although has his shining attributes is way too slow to keep up with this group. He's very much in the same boat as Luke Schenn in that these are defenders that play a very slow, hold you up game, something the Leafs just don't do. I have less of an issue with the Zub deal although I don't think he's worth the 2nd on top of Dermott.

What do we think Zub would be worth? Maybe Dermott and Amirov or something like that?

He isn't available, unless it's an insane overpayment. You can have NZ back though if you need an RD.

Not bursting my bubble at all. I appreciate the feedback and i just enjoy making hypothetical moves even if im not good at it. I was a struggle to watch the Leafs get beat up by Calgary the other day and although Simmons was out of the lineup I think the Leafs have relied too heavy on small skill players and could use a bit more Umph throughout the lineup. Chara would only play if we're getting beat up come playoffs and have a d or two injured

he is basically a big dude who likes to hit and has a decent shot. He has negative hockey sense, utterly abysmal at anything involving actual defending that isnt laser focusing on a dude and trying to hit him, and hes not fast or agile enough to do that well

Yeah no worries. As you probably have noticed then by watching them a lot, the Leafs don't play a pinned down rough game. Like it's systematically against what this group was built for. That is why I think the Leafs target defenders like Brodie, a guy that is willing to block shots, not overly physical, but plays a safe game defensively. A lot of Leafs fans are clammering at Chycrun, but I am not sure he's proven to be so defensively reliable yet in his young career, even though he's a quick skater, can play physical and has one hell of a point shot. If you ask me, the ideal target is Golden Knights Zach Whitecloud. He was just extended long term for a very reasonable $2.75 million AAV, he's big, right handed, can skate as well. Only significant issue is that like Toronto, Vegas is quite cap-strapped so being creative on such a deal would be essential.

Gonna pass on NZ we were lucky enough to get rid of him the first time. Dont understand why they wouldn't make him available this year or next, not like Sens are going to make playoffs and he'll walk for nothing summer 2023

Like I said, I have no issue with Zub, but to me, he's playing way above his pay grade in Ottawa. Meaning, on a good team, he'd be playing less minutes and given far less responsibility. The caveat here is the "good team" I am referring to also has a good defensive group, which suddenly puts the Leafs in a weird middle category. I just don't see the Leafs willing to part with a top 2022 draft pick to acquire what they need in this draft. They should have enough prospect capital, plus NHL-quality talent, which they'd like have to flip anyway for cap reasons, to make something happen this trade deadline.

Why do so many think it's better to have and just anger/size and incompetence rather than competency at the Dman position?

Maybe find an upgrade over Holl but the Leafs should look to strengthen that 3rd line so it’s ready come playoff time

Why do people keep saying this? So Jack Campbell is going to walk for nothing, because it’s the same situation?

If Ottawa was moving Zub, which they aren't, the return would be so much better than this.
