I don’t really like that trade for Buffalo, and I’m not sure Calgary can afford to take on a $10 million center and not move significant salary back in the same deal. Not saying Pelletier won’t be a good player, and I like Dube, but in terms of roster talent buffalo doesn’t get a lot back right away. Not to mention you’re barely moving any money back to Buffalo in the deal. Mid round firsts this year aren’t worth as much as they would be in other years.
I still maintain that if buffalo trades Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart this off-season and gets primarily draft picks and prospects that aren’t NHL ready they are telling their fan base in no uncertain terms that they have no intention of being competitive for another five years. That’s basically consigning themselves to a potentially 15 year playoff drought. And needless to say nobody is going to buy tickets to watch that team play.
