Wings are gonna pass, you can keep kerfoot unless you are paying us to take him. We aren't trading picks at this time and only taking these types of contracts from other teams if we get picks for them. Trade him to a contender and you may get this return, but not from wings

Caps are not retaining on Oshie's contract for four years while taking on a larger contract as well. There's no space to begin with. Also, for the time being, Oshie is producing as much as Nylander, and although he'll regress soon, they will still take his heart and soul-type play even if the points begin to decline.

If I had a nickel for every Toronto AGM with one of Kerfoot, Engvall or Dermott to Detroit, I could buy Amazon from Bezos. To be 100% clear - Detroit does not now, nor in the future, have ANY interest in ANY of those three players.

Yeah, the wings have significantly worse guys like Glendening to hold on to. Gotta help tank for that 2022 1st over all

If the Leafs are really shopping Kerfoot he'd probably be on a new team. Leaf's fans here have been trading him for the last 2 years. About the retention Detroit will probably have more cap space than any other teaming the league so retaining $500,000 isn't going to isn't going to make the deal any better or worse from Detroit's pov.

Impact players are the only thing that moves a rebuild forward, not depth players. It's irrelevant if someone is better than one of Detroit's bottom 6 up front, or 3rd pairing on D. Trading for an upgrade in those roles, is just poor asset management, until a team is legitimately a contender. Detroit made big strides this season and will do so again next season and it will be because Yzerman has a plan and doesn't deviate.

Those players might have value somewhere else, but it isn't Detroit, so once again. Not interested.

So the logic is Tampa needs to pay to offload Killorn (whom is superior) but Toronto gets compensated for Kerfoot? Why wouldn’t Detroit just deal with Tampa and cut Toronto out?

Not wasting resources and/or signing contracts that don't help you isn't being bad on purpose, it's thinking of the future.

Every team declines. No one taking Nylander's horrendous overpaid contract, especially the Capitals. They would rather much prefer to keep a heart and soul type of player over someone who signed in the very last minute. Caps don't need Engfall either
