You’re right, hate from Detroit. Steen also hates it unless it’s for a buy out.

What are "UFA rights", a ufa means the current team has no rights

Means you can negotiate in the window leading up to beginning of free agency. Try lock the player down before they're officially "on the market".

Negotiating rights before the free agency period. Maybe worth a late round pick. More just showing that the Leafs would be opening the space for Petro.

Especially love it if the Leafs are allowed to Negotiate with Petro before the trade is made official, gauge his interest.

C’mon.... Kapanen liljegren a 1st and a 3rd for parayko = this trade. Neither player is on the move.

I would consider Kapanen for Kyrou in a 1 for 1, any thoughts?

Some of y'all may have needed a taste of the medicine then tears of joy not you personally, but I'm tired of the Parayko trades so I was looking at something outside the box.

I'd have to look at how we could afford Kapanen for Kyrou but it's kind of interesting, especially with the way Kyrou hasn't found a fit.

I think he could fit well in the leafs system and Kapanen well in yours, just an idea I’ve been toying with. The cap I would have to look in to. I mean bozak should be gone, he doesn’t have an ntc does he?

I’m pretty sure they did away with that in the new CBA.

I think the Nylander trade makes sense with the pieces/team needs going back and forth, but that the value would need to be increased a little from STL's end - Nylander is a top notch winger and a 2021 3rd is likely in the 80s, with the 2020 1st being in the late 20s. UFA rights is cute but not worth all that much.

Sanford is a good fit for the Leafs though, and Kyrou is an interesting throw-in but not super high in value either.

Bozak has a 10-team no trade list.

Yeah it's probably not enough, just looking for a way to help both sides. 1.5m middle six winger, ELC winger, 1st and 3rd, and the cap space for Petro... Blues don't have much else to work with tbh. Not gonna trade Parayko, and the other pieces we have don't really match what TOR needs. This was just a random thought.

Understood but how do you trade that as a piece of value when the Leafs can't determine whether their is interest prior to the trade? In other words, if no interest on an extension and wants to test the market, the Leafs wouldn't know that prior to signing the trade paperwork. Maybe there is some kind of very low value associated with it but I've never liked pegging any kind of substantive value with UFA rights.

I would say I hate it. I don't see it happening because I don't see Detroit trading assets for a winger when they need an LD.

Sanford Kyrou a 1st and a 3rd is fair value for Nylander IMO. Johnson is a cap dump for a chance at Petro. That's the way I break that down.

Cap dumping a young, intense 20 goal scorer for a chance at a stud defense isn't good asset management. Gotta get the high return on pieces on like that, especially when a team like Nashville, Dallas, or Arizona would be on the prowl for scorers like Johnsson and you could get more back.

Sanford and a pick in the 80s is in the realm of acceptable offerings for Johnsson, but a 25th-ish pick and Kyrou as a sweetner isn't enough to poach a 30 goal scorer with good upside.

With the current roster and signing RFA’s Toronto is about 2-3m over the cap. Could pissibly come in under the cap but mikeyev and Dermott would need to combine for 2.5m... ish.

Typically the team interested would be given time to sit with the player to gauge intrest. Usual value for a good player like this is a 5th or 6th.
