If Byram and Timmins are both ready

Description
If Byram and Timmins both show themselves to be NHL ready that makes Graves expendable. Basically the idea would be to sign a top 6 forward in UFA (with ~$11m capspace), and then stock up on futures by trading Graves, Zadorov, and Jost.

We'd basically just need a stop-gap 6D for a year or two until O'Rourke or Zhuravlyov were ready, which shouldn't be too difficult to find either via UFA or trade. For example, a LHD version of McKeown or a cheaper version of Nemeth basically (like Coburn). Essentially just a stay-at-home pylon who's good on the PK on a 1-2 year deal. Could even resign Cole at a reasonable cap hit.

      Byram --- Makar
      Girard --- Johnson
      xxxxx ---- Timmins

The Avs have the players and depth to be perennial cup contenders for many years. If your giving Dadonov 7M then how much is Landeskog going to ask for? Imo the Avs have about a 3 year window before some really hard decisions will need to be made.

Dadonov is more about the term than the AAV. I'd rather overpay a little bit to get him for 3 years or less. Ideally we could get him for less than $7m either way though.

As for Landeskog, he's going to be getting a 6-7 year contract and will likely take more of a team-friendly contract as the team captain, so this Dadonov deal isn't the best comparable.

Personally, I wouldn’t make this trade for the kings. They have Anderson who looked ready and bjornfot almost there (should be up mid season) with clague as well.

He is goign to be 32 next year and you are paying him 7m in his 35 year old season. Thats why its yuck
Avs are not goign to be starting to give out bad contracts now just to get the deal done with a 2nd tier player

Rebuilding teams don't trade away their high round draft picks.

Additionally, they're not going to trade away one of their only two decent winger prospects for a defenseman.

      Kings decline.

Sure, point taken. I'm not THAT keen on Dadonov, it was more of a placeholder. You can substitute him for any other UFA forward.

At some stage a rebuilding team starts to actually get players on the ice, and with the deepest prospect pool in the league LAK can afford to move some picks.

It's a big assumption to assume that 3 pretty young defensive prospects can make the team at once. I know I've pencilled in Timmins and Byram here, but Timmins was drafted 3 years ago and Byram is the highest rated drafted prospect in the league.

I agree with "at some stage", but I don't think the Kings are at that stage yet. With the 2nd overall this year, they're right at the height of the rebuild. They're still a season or two away from moving out picks.

I’m not on board with Dadonov. I’d rather bring back Namestikov at half that cost or go to Free Agency and get a Hall/Hoffman/Toffoli (like mentioned above).

I agree that the Avs can afford to move Graves/Zadorov although I don’t think bringing in Byram full time next season is a good idea. Let Byram develop one more year and keep Cole for that year.

Maybe a trade for Saad as he would be great next to Kadri and flanking Burakovsky....that would be a tough 2nd line to play against.

You're gunna need the money you spent on Dadonov to resign, Makar, Landeskog, and Grubauer the following season. With a flat cap, you're putting the Avalanche in a very difficult position.

Avs can afford to add a ~$6m forward and still resign those guys. Keep in mind that Zadorov likely gets traded and one of Donskoi/Compher will likely get taken by Seattle (and replaced by Newhook). If Graves also gets traded that would open up even more capspace.

I like Saad, but the prices touted by Chicago fans on here put me off a bit. If he can be had for a reasonable price I'd consider it, otherwise rather go for an UFA.

Fair enough. Some LAK fans on here have been in favour of a 2nd + 3rd trade for Zadorov, and so I figured you'd be willing to give up a similar (but somewhat better) package for Graves who is a better Dman.

Yeah, will cost the 1st and a 3rd or 4th. Maybe a trade involving Compher and Hawks retain on Saad to even up the cap hits?

Fair enough. Some LAK fans on here have been in favour of a 2nd + 3rd trade for Zadorov, and so I figured you'd be willing to give up a similar (but somewhat better) package for Graves who is a better Dman.

To be fair, I'm not on board with the proposed trade for Zadorov either for the same reason. The Kings should not be giving up picks at this stage of the rebuild.
