We don't need mantha AND Domi, but I would take one of them for sure. If we only take one then COL should keep Compher to fill out the forward core. Mantha is the better player but may not fit as well on a 2nd line with Kadri and Burakovsky since they are all shooters (Bednar could break up the top line and find a good match though), Domi would probably be a bit cheaper in a trade as well but is more risky imo

Why should DET trade Mantha for quantity instead of quality

Why would MTL trade one of their best forward for a late 2021 1st ( bad draft ) Zadorov 3rd pairing and meh prospect when we have planty of them ? This trade doesn’t make MTL better next year

Domi isnt some price pig either, he is a 45point player with out lier 70 point season. He has to show he is more than a 40-50 point guy more than once for Montreal to demand major pieces for him.

Graves and Seider as a top pairing would be pretty dope. Also a couple of late round steals the Red Wings could get that could potentially become Mantha's replacement, and thats not even accounting for Kaut. Think that looks pretty fair to me

It's a fair offer, Detroit just isn't moving Mantha right now. Have a feeling he takes a 3 x $7.0m deal here in the next few weeks or so. Probably go short term then long term.

He's a good shooter, but as a redwings fan he certainly isnt a 40 goal scorer. If he puts it all together he may make that once, but he should be a career 25-30 guy. That being said, the offer is dreadful, Yzerman tells Sakic to stay on the line, then walks away from the phone without hanging up.

i still think mantha is going to be one of those guys who cash in then cash out but he's still worth the risk with that trade. his and domi's contracts are horrible though.

What good does this deal do for Montreal?

Zadorov is not a huge upgrade on anything we have. Ranta is a former 3rd rounder that is a longshot. 30ish overall pick, not exactly a huge get. Montreal is not giving Domi away unless it upgrades the roster.

Its not awful, its underwhelming but its not awful.
You have to realize that Mantha is 1 year away form UFA and is a major injury prone guy. Despite his talent there are series red flags with him.
Teams are not going to line up to trade their prime prime assets for a guy who might only play 45-50 games in one season before hitting UFA.

His at that point where his health and contract control status outweighs his potential of a scorer

So his injury history isn't something likely to repeat at present. His first two, hand issues from fights. Solution, simple, don't fight. Easy solve. The injury this season was a pretty bad slew foot from Muzzin. Yeah not great, but anyone could get the same injury at any time, Lafreniere could suffer that day 1. If you're able to manage your players better than Holland era Detroit, theres no issue. His proximity to UFA being a concern depends entirely on whether Detroit signs him long term, if he takes a 7 year deal, theres no concern there at all. All indications are he wants to stay in Detroit long term. Id not be surprised at 7x7 and yzerman not entertaining offers that aren't stupidly in Detroit's favour.

If we’re shipping off Mantha I’d ask for Byram (I know Colorado fans would turn that down) with a plus coming with Mantha. All good pieces for Mantha, I know but I really want to see a full season from him without Muzzin & Witkowski cheap shots shortening it.

Mantha has 2 more RFA years. His injuries are overblown I’ve posted this a few times on this site. 3 of those seasons were cut short from Witkowski cross checking his hand, Nemeth fight, and Muzzin slew foot and body slam on ice. I’m sure Yzerman is going to stress him not fighting so not much to worry about.

He is constantly injured, he has what only 1 season he has played at least 70 games? Its not an over blown thing about him. You cant dismiss that when talking about his value in trade.

7 years x $6.5m for Domi seems really excessive. $5.5m x 5 years would be more appropriate.

Avs also only need one more top 6 forward, in fact any more than that and we'll be struggling to resign everyone.
