I don’t believe that at all. Really the team has played inconsistent. Certainly nothing dubas has don wrong. Both he and Pridham have put together a strong team on paper. They just need to go out and get it done.
at the end of the day Dubas gets judged on 4 things.
1. did they win or lose, and frankly, it doesn't look like he's been winning.
2. did he sign his young players to good contracts. And The answer to that is no. Matthews signed for 5 years not 8, and Marner is over paid.
3. Did he build a complete team. Clearly with that defense the answer is no. He considered it an after thought, Which really shows poor thinking.
4. how was his drafting and trading.
He lost the Kadri trade, the Marleau trade wasn't great. The Ceci trade was kind of a wash. The Muzzin trade was probably his best one, and that was alright.
His drafting since taking over in 2018 isn't great. Sandin hasn't proven to be anything special. Robertson has played well in the CHL but he's really undersized. It's a stretch for him to make it to the NHL.
There isn't really a whole lot there. Given it's a bit early on some of them.
But if this team misses the playoffs next year....like they probably would have this year. Lets be honest they were holding onto that 3rd place by a string and if they dropped out that was it because the metro was getting both WC as they are the better division. That will be it for Dubas. He'll get chased out. Wasting the few years he actually had managed to sign Matthews will be the end of him.
