Description

It has been emphasized by the majority of the Penguins fan base that they need a top 6 right winger since Conor Sheary isn’t good enough for their expectations. So far, I’ve explored several different options looking at right wingers of all different price ranges, and recently, I read an article that gave me an idea.

Obviously there have been question marks about Josh Ho-Sang’s work ethic & attitude in the past, but based on the stats given from the time he’s spent in the NHL, he’s proven that he deserves a full time roster spot. He is an above average play driver in terms of generating shots & possession plus is a good defensive Forward. It appears the Islanders never gave him a fair opportunity.

I think the Pens should take a chance on him & put with Sid. He will be cheap for 1 year, which is perfect for a flat cap league.

Detroit passes. A rebuilding team isn't going to trade 2 2nds for Murray when there are other less expensive options.

As an Isles fan I would hate to see Ho-Sang with Crosby as he could turn him into a 60 point player. Ho-Sang plays hard every shift, I do not think that is the issue. His 2 glaring weaknesses was being lost in the D-Zone and too much skating with puck in O-Zone. If you could get him to move the puck faster in the O-Zone and not dangle on the blue line he could be a very good player.

Those were concerns from Josh’s junior days, but over the past few seasons he’s worked much harder. He backchecks & has a good xGA record. He plays the game much like Marner, an undersized player who’s soft & doesn’t offer much physicality but is really skilled & creative.

Thanks for the insight. Yes, simplifying his game has always been an area of work in his game. Based on the stats, it seems he worked pretty hard & got good results defensively, but his lack of production got him back in the AHL. Honestly I’m not sure if Ho-Sang is going to fare well with the Penguins coaching staff, but I think he’s an option.

What is the issue with Michael Dal Colle? His underlying numbers are horrible & he hasn’t provided much offence. Is he too slow? Lacks hockey sense? Poor defensively? Or maybe he doesn’t fit Trotz’s system?

Detroit doesn't have enough pieces in place to be able to spend 3 assets to get 1. Starting with the 2016-17 season up until now he ranks in the 30's in both GAA and SV% in the regular season.

Yes but in the 2016 playoffs he had a SV of 92 & in 2017, a SV Of 93. He has proven he can perform when it matters most. Maybe Detroit isn’t in the position to pay, but someone will.

Not really, he was at least able to adapt and play very very well in any situation the islanders put him in, I don't think it's work ethic, I think his issue was he's too outspoken for an old fashioned hockey man like Lou, I'd love to pick him up

Not retaining on Johnson. If you are retaining then there is no reason to trade him. Either move the contract or play him. The coaches like him anyway.

Ho-Sang = Sprong. Actually Ho-Sang < Sprong. Pass.

The Islanders aren't going to qualify him and he will be a UFA. Offer him a 2-way and if he says no, absolutely no loss for the Pens.

Dal Colle is an OK skater. Seems to process the game slow, has a good shot but slow to get it off, and not really a physical player. Defense seems to be the best part of his game, will never be more than 30point bottom 6 player.

Well, JJ is a bad defenceman so I traded him for an upgrade in McCabe. I could care less about his contract or if the coaching staff likes him, as long as he's gone, the team plays better.

As for the Sprong comparison, you couldn't be more wrong. Sprong was one of the most lazy and one dimensional players of all time. Other than an impressive 2017/18 season, he was awful. Couldn't ever sustain an offensive zone cycle, never retrieved the puck, never contributed defensively and never generated any quality scoring chances. Ho-Sang is quite the opposite.
