It's exactly the same as the Flyers moving Ghost to the Yotes last year. If the Pens want to move his money out to sign Letang and Malkin then they need move out Petterson or Zucker or both, and knowing that why would any team send back anything of value to the Pens? They wouldn't. And if your the Pens, it's either pay a sweetener to move out the money or lose Letang and Malkin.</div></div>
Again, huh? They don’t ‘need’ to move the money, they’re fine capwise to sign those two without moving him

Huh? Pettersson isn’t negative value, he’s a fairly paid #4

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pensfan21</b></div><div>I don't think so personally. I feel like that is where we are headed. I would be shocked if we won first round, so I've started thinking about offseason already. Also with so many UFA's it is a conversation happening now. Even if we don't lose first round, we have way to many players struggling and a team is only as good as the sum of its parts. Kapanen, Carter, Dumo, Pettersson, Marino, Malkin, Zucker all not playing well. That for me is enough for some change.</div></div>
I mean, Zucker hasn't really played

95% of all PIT ACGMs have Pettersson going to Detroit for a 3rd or less. Have a look at the ACGM right before yours as an example.</div></div>
speaking from experience, think most people just put the third to avoid the argument, as evidenced from this thread
there's really not much of a difference value wise between the picks, so sure

Also have no physicality which matters for playoffs and might be why we always get so many injuries. Need to get a little bigger/tougher and younger faster players as well. Our centers would be 36, 35, and 38 in this lineup. If we lose first round we need major change, it would be insanity to do the same thing again. Coaching change needs to be considered as well imo.</div></div>
Feel like that's a bridge to cross if they actually lose first round, not before

I'm not saying those 15 picks would be a deal breaker, just pointing out that you're getting greedy, when the overwhelming consensus on this board, is that a 3rd is market value. Pittsburgh needs to shed cap and everyone knows it, so they are not in a position of leverage in negotiations. If anything, they might even need to take less as no one will be looking to do them a favor.</div></div>
If there's more than one team interested in a player, they'll get fair value, even with cap constraints that's just how markets function
>1 team would be interested in Pettersson
Late second / early third is fair value imo but I don't see those as being wildly different enough to really argue it either way

We are already struggling a ton with our roster as it, if we lose first round or even later I don't see the point of running it back. Signing Kapanen for 3.5 mil especially dosen't make sense and idk about keeping UFA's if we're out first round, at least not all of them</div></div>
At the same time, the roster has been good enough this year to be a contender despite injuries
Withholding judgment of the roster construction until they play five games with a full lineup

Who agreed to this? I only hear this from Wings fans
Also, the difference between the Caps second and Wings third is ~15 picks, is it really a difference worth arguing over? Those slots are something like 30% chance to play 100 games vs. 25% chance

Pettersson's usage/TOI in Pittsburgh is more of a result of the org's depth at LD than his actual ability
He's fine on the PK and has also shown some offensive ability in the past, just currently being used in more of a defensive role
Think he would be an ideal cheap (to acquire) #4 for a team like LA, and he's still pretty young to fit the window
Respect your opinion but do think it would be a win/win trade
