Mikheyev Offersheet

Créé par: Richard88
Équipe: 2020-21 Avalanche du Colorado
Date de création initiale: 20 mai 2020
Publié: 20 mai 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Most Toronto AGM's have Mikheyev being resigned for somewhere around $1.5m - $2m, which is clearly a substantial underpayment based on his performance this season. This underpayment would be largely motivated by Toronto's cap squeeze, and thus presents an opportunity to a team like Colorado who have plenty of capspace to take advantage of cap teams with.

****** Mikheyev Stats ******

Mikheyev played only 39 games this season, but he did put up 23 points for a 48 point pace. What's particularly impressive is that he did that with only 13:34 ice time, and no PP time.

He has excellent possession stats this season, such as:
- 54.2 FF% which is 1st among all Toronto skaters with at least 20 games.
- 54.6 CF% which is 2nd on the Leafs and 23rd in the NHL among forwards with at least 20 games.

Mikheyev is also an excellent PKer, ranking 2nd in SH TOI for Toronto this season (1:55).

Overall Mikheyev is a big boy (6'3'', 194lb); skates very well; and is good on the forecheck and backcheck.

***** Fit with Colorado *******

Based on the aforementioned stats and player traits, he's likely a player that is on Sakic's radar, given that Sakic loves to acquire players with great underlying stats (eg. Donskoi, Nichuskin, Burakovsky) - especially when they may be available at lower than market value.

In terms of Colorado's roster, they need a top 6 forward as well as help on the PK. As a big and fast two-way playmaker Mikheyev would fit well on a line with Kadri and Burakovsky, and he would also replace Nieto on Colorado's first PK unit. He could potentially also play on a line with fellow Russian Nichuskin which would make him feel at home.

Signing Mikheyev to a $3m x 3 year offersheet ensures that he gets closer to his market value than he would likely get with Toronto, and some term also gives him financial security.

From Colorado's perspective, they would only be giving up a 2021 2nd as compensation, and the 3 year term would ensures that they maintain roster flexibility in 2023 when Mackinnon's contract is up.

As shown in the AGM below Leafs are really going to struggle matching this OS, unless they move at least two of Kerfoot, Johnsson, and Kapanen. And that still wouldn't leave any spare money towards fixing their RHD.

They are gonna match that. he is better than all of them. Its actually pretty easy to re-sign him at 3M. And Leafs might trade Kap and Johnsson no matter what. And he isnt going to sign an offersheet.

good idea. leafs would be put in a tough spot to match. they could but would have a hard time filling out the rest of the team without moving one of the big four.

I'm sorry but there is no way the Leafs match that. Someone who has played 30 games in the NHL and you're ready to give up on Kapanen or Kerfoot for him. I understand he had a good start but there is no way enough evidence to say he can keep that pace up. Let Colorado take hi, get the second-round pick from compensation and go use that money to sign a RD and keep your forward depth intact.

I'd be cautious with mikheyev. The injury he suffered could potentially be career altering depending on how bad it really was. It could take him a year or 2 just to get all the feeling back in his arm. With that being said I think toronto finds a way to match that and if they don't match I'd be even more worried about his injury.

He has the best two-way game out of those players, the best playmaker out of those players and that isnt just about his great start. He was amazing the whole time he played before getting his artery cut. Mikheyev is a keeper and you match that 3M offersheet. Mikheyev tho wouldnt sign that offersheet as he is in love with Toronto and GM of the team literally stayed with him for a week or so in hospital after that injury occured. Guy wouldnt sign offersheet.

This would be a mistake for either team.

One of the worst injuries in all of sports is to the hands. He sliced his tendons. You don't know what you are getting back.
No one in their right mind would make this offer. You could be ending up with 3 million in dead cap.

I think it would be a good idea for someone to OS Mikheyev, but I will disagree with your statement that 1.5 - 2 million is a 'substantial underpayment' for him. Most of the contracts offered on here at that money are for 1-2 years, and based on his limited sample size and the fact that he's coming off a serious injury, that's more than fair. Colorado has the money, so it's not much of a 'risk', but there is no guarantee that Mikheyev lives up to that deal (though I personally think he would).

There's no way Mikheyev would sign a $3M offer sheet to go play in Denver.

Also, the Kings decline on that trade. They'd just re-sign Hutton before they gave up high-round picks.

Remember that time when this Russian kid with no family in North America had his wrist cut by a skate and then his GM spent 3 days in hospital with him because he genuinely cares about his players? Yeah Mikheyev is signing in TO. End of the debate.

hahaha you didn't just call Mikheyev better than kapanen.
Leafs wouldn't be able to afford him at 3M, but there's a chance that he prefers to just stay put for 1.5x1 after the way dubas treated him.
That said, leafs might try to make moves to keep him if he did accept, but I think they'd come up short, especially if they want to upgrade that D

Along with all the other points Mikheyev isnt leaving TOR because he signed an endorsement deal with Cambells soup that he would lose if he went somewhere else so no hes not leaving

He already has such a good relationship with the team, Barabanov, and Dubas especially it would be unrealistic to see him move. He made A LOT of money off the soup ad, and like most of the Leaf's notable players he likely made millions outside of salary. Furthermore, I'm willing to bet that somewhere in the terms for Barabanov's signing Mikheyev was staying around.

He has the fans in Toronto
He has the money in Toronto
He has friends in Toronto

He isn't going anywhere

Are you able to share a source, or tell me where I can find that information? Per capfriendly it seems that he's eligible as he signed his first contract after he was 24.

If COL OS Mikheyev 4.22M, it puts TOR in more cap problems.

If Dubas cares so much about him he'll do the decent thing and trade him to Colorado where he can earn more money playing on a better team and win a cup.

Or he can keep him in TO where he will also have a chance to win the cup.
