Most Toronto AGM's have Mikheyev being resigned for somewhere around $1.5m - $2m, which is clearly a substantial underpayment based on his performance this season. This underpayment would be largely motivated by Toronto's cap squeeze, and thus presents an opportunity to a team like Colorado who have plenty of capspace to take advantage of cap teams with.
****** Mikheyev Stats ******
Mikheyev played only 39 games this season, but he did put up 23 points for a 48 point pace. What's particularly impressive is that he did that with only 13:34 ice time, and no PP time.
He has excellent possession stats this season, such as:
- 54.2 FF% which is 1st among all Toronto skaters with at least 20 games.
- 54.6 CF% which is 2nd on the Leafs and 23rd in the NHL among forwards with at least 20 games.
Mikheyev is also an excellent PKer, ranking 2nd in SH TOI for Toronto this season (1:55).
Overall Mikheyev is a big boy (6'3'', 194lb); skates very well; and is good on the forecheck and backcheck.
***** Fit with Colorado *******
Based on the aforementioned stats and player traits, he's likely a player that is on Sakic's radar, given that Sakic loves to acquire players with great underlying stats (eg. Donskoi, Nichuskin, Burakovsky) - especially when they may be available at lower than market value.
In terms of Colorado's roster, they need a top 6 forward as well as help on the PK. As a big and fast two-way playmaker Mikheyev would fit well on a line with Kadri and Burakovsky, and he would also replace Nieto on Colorado's first PK unit. He could potentially also play on a line with fellow Russian Nichuskin which would make him feel at home.
Signing Mikheyev to a $3m x 3 year offersheet ensures that he gets closer to his market value than he would likely get with Toronto, and some term also gives him financial security.
From Colorado's perspective, they would only be giving up a 2021 2nd as compensation, and the 3 year term would ensures that they maintain roster flexibility in 2023 when Mackinnon's contract is up.
Le salaire annuel moyen (AAV) de l'offre hostile est calculé en divisant la valeur totale du contrat par: 1. La durée totale du contrat, ou 2. Cinq ans
If COL OS Mikheyev 4.22M, it puts TOR in more cap problems.
Lmao buddy. Let's make a bet if you think theres even the slightest chance of this happening because there is a bunch of teams who would really want mikheyev.
If mikheyev even gets an offersheet, he doesnt have to sign it you can chose my CF name and picture and you have to keep it for a year. If he doesnt I get to chose your picture and username and you have to keep it for a year. Deal?

Toronto aren't winning the cup without fixing their atrocious RHD.
They have a good defence. You just think the hand a player shoots matters way more than he does. Dermott can play RD, so can Lehtonen and Sandin. They all look like they could be good players.

Handedness has nothing to do with it. Holl and Dermott have yet to prove that they are reliable top 4 D's. Lehtonen has never played in the NHL. Sandin is young. Lot's of question marks.
They key word in your post is "could".... Yes, they "could" be good players, but there's a lot of uncertainty with your D group, and until it proves that it's capable of not letting in the 7th highest goals against in the league the doubts will persist.

Not really to the extent that there is with TML's D. You have a few new faces and/or players being promoted into bigger roles which creates uncertainty. Will they be able to handle the NHL (Lehtonen)? Will they be able to handle bigger roles they haven't yet shown they can handle (Sandin, Dermott, Holl)?
Contrast that with other teams who have very little or no turnover in their top 4 D and who were ranked among the best defense groups in the league. Eg. Colorado were 5th best in goals against, and will keep their top 5 D intact (Graves/Makar/Girard/Johnson/Cole), so there's less question marks as they've already shown they can perform in the roles we need them for next season.

Everything on here is always worse for TO. It's so boring

Maybe it's because TML fans' expectations aren't in line with reality as much as other fans. You haven't won a playoff round since before the cap, so a dose of realism would do you well.

Of course, only Leaf fans are homers, only the Maple Leafs have to overpay, only the Leafs young players are immune to improvement and only the Leafs will have to trade all their good players to be good.
