Getzlaf isn't getting younger so full rebuild

They have some nice pieces, Gibson, Lindholm, Fowler, Manson, Silverberg, Getzlaf, Rackell, a lot of that decision hinges on guys like Zegras and whether or not you believe in Getzlaf and the old guard.

Unless they're going to trade Getzlaf, they'd be just as likely to try and retool and give it one more shot before he's done. Not that that I think that's the right decision.

I think the route they should take is rebuild, but based on input that I've seen from various Ducks fans on this site, I assume they are going for more of a retool.

Ducks D core looks solid could use an upgrade on Gudbranson -Top 6 F group is iffy a mix of not quite ready and little to old lacks goal scoring - Getz is UFA after next season so play him out and if wants to keep playing give him 1 year 2/3 million dollar deals - don't spend too 50 draft picks unless you're getting a legit 30 goal 60 pt F - honestly their doing a bit of both

Defence is already built assuming Fowler, Lindholm, Manson, Guhle, Larsson, Mahura stay. Gibson is young so they are good at Goalie. Problem is offence, other than Steel, Jones, Zegras, Terry, Comtois and assuming they draft Lucas Raymond they are weak, they can retool and go back in contention, or acquire some serious pieces out of Lindholm, Rakell, Silferberg and Henrique while tanking

Getzlaf has very little impact on the future of this team so I disagree with all above. Future Core of this team is

Forwards:
Zegras, Comtois, Steel, Jones, Tracey, Terry, Rakell, Lundestrom, Milano, Heinen, BOG, Morand
Defense:
Fowler, Lindholm, Larsson, Guhle, Mahura, Thurn, Andersson, Djoos, LaCombe
Goalies:
Gibson, Stolarz, Dotsal, Eriksson Ek

Guys like Manson, Henrique and Silfverberg could still be around too

Not to mention 3 top 36 picks in this draft (With no lottery change picks 5, 31, 36)

The full rebuild has been happening already, it isnt starting this offseason, this is really the third season of it, so really its closer to retooling at this point, though I would say they are already in the process of a rebuild

There D core is brutal. Not sure what you are watching. Manson has been terrible for 2 years. Djoos and Irwin should be in the AHL. Fowler, Gudbranson and Lindholm are good, but not great anymore.

That division does not look so good either.
Lets add up the 4 or 5 or 6 bottom teams in each of the 2 divisions and see what that comes out to.
PS the oilers are somewhere around 15-6 agaist the east teams. That says it all. And we lost to Detroit, Ottawa and Buffalo twice.

Manson hasn't been terrible lol, he's been a serviceable second pairing guy on a normal team, even last year when literally the entire team just quit trying bc HCRC, Irwin isn't gonna get resigned, Djoos was surprisingly good albeit tiny sample size vs big sample size of AHL play, but maybe he did just need a change of scenery, Fowler just had one of the best years of his career this year... Same with Guddy, who has never been great... Lindholm is the only one who is "good not great" and that "good not great season" was still better than or comparable to everyone on the oilers defense (I'd say Bear>Lindholm>Nurse tbh)

Obviously not all of them are core pieces, but its early in the rebuild so I listed who has the potential to be core pieces moving forward.

My money would be on Zegras, Comtois, Lindholm, Gibson, 2020 5thOA for what the core will be



Yeah they may not pan out to be, I just included all the youngish guys because they could play there way into being core pieces

I'd probably add their 2021 1st pick as well.

Retool... Or at least not massive sell off of what they already have, they already have a ton of pieces, far too many LHD (of any variant) and middle 6 forwards, they need another high end forward or two, and to wait another year for development and they'll be right where a team like VAN is this yr, they may move guys like Silf or Henrique, but long term those are largely inconsequential moves, the only big piece that I could see being moved in the near future is Rakell, and that's only if they get a solid RHD back (like the Timmins+ideas from COL I've seen) or a solid first from this years draft (I saw Florida proposals a month or so ago, NSH ones a weekish ago, and a NJD one with VAN's first earlier today)

Let's just look at the guys we've drafted in the first two rounds lately: Zegras, Tracey, Jones, Steel, Lundestrom, Comtois, Groulx, Morand, two 2020 firsts and 2020 second -- 11 players. Let's say only 5 of them become top-6 forwards. Add just one of the players acquired from outside (Heinen, Milano) or a holdover or two (Rakell, Silfverberg) and this is a pretty solid team. Add depth players like Terry and maybe a draft surprise like Badini or McLaughlin or Janicke plus other useful players like those acquired in the past (Grant, DesLauriers, Rowney) and this is a playoff contender in 2021-2022. Now consider the defense: absolutely set on the left side with Fowler and Lindholm on the first two pairings with Djoos, Guhle, Larsson and Mahura in line and LaCombe and Thrun coming up. One of the best goaltenders in the League with John Gibson and Lukas Dostal developing. The only weakness is at RD. If Anaheim can address that successfully in this draft or through trade, this becomes a team that will win playoff matchups in 2022-2023 if not sooner. Nobody saw the Islanders coming last year, either, or the Golden Knights before.
