I wish could get that back in a return. More likely Dumba + Fiala for Marner.

Dubas should say okay here's a 3 year deal and heres a 7 year deal. This is what were offering as a final offer. Either you take it or you play in Europe.

All this RFA bs is annoying. Im a jets fan and I feel the pain.

I seriously hope NHL takes a look at changing some of this RFA stuff. Even moving the RFA deadline up to Sept. 13 would be amazing and I feel like the NHLPA might agree to that.

It's getting kinda nuts really. Camp is just about here and there are so many rfas unsigned. It's starting to seem like it's a coordinated push by players/agents, and if it is, then that's a structural problem that'll require a structured response.

Toronto fans: marner isn't worth a penny more than 8 mil!
Also Toronto fans: marner is worth a top RD, a top 6 forward, and a bunch of picks and prospects!

Which is it Toronto?

No one is saying he isn't worth over 8 mil, and there are alot of players who make 8 mil or even less, signed recently too who would be worth a top pair dman. Tarasenko, Aho etc

I don't have anything against Toronto fans, I think every fan base over values their players, but yeah Marner's trade value isn't what it should be since he's asking for so much money and doesn't play a premium position.

Like yeah at the start of the Summer its fun and games and I get teams need time to make moves and stuff but cmon this is ridiculous. Like you said camp is pretty much here and there are so many RFAs still unsigned. I'd understand if there was like 1 or 2 left but there's still like 10. I seriously think its something the NHL should look at. It seems like all these RFAs are texting each other saying oh hold out till the last moment and its annoying. I know thats obviously not the case but it really is getting ridiculous.

I actually used to like the leafs and rooted for them until they signed tavares and destroyed their cap. They put themselves in this mess so it's pretty funny to watch it play out

No one is saying he can't be traded for anything of value. People are saying teams with RHD on excellent contracts (Manson, Dumba, Jones, Pesce) aren't going to trade those players for a guy wanting what Marner does. The league has a salary cap and teams have a lot of trouble putting together a competitive roster with so much going to 1 player. It's harder when the player doesn't play a premium position (center, #1 D, goalie). The Wild wouldn't even remotely consider trading Dumba unless a franchise center is coming back and Marner isn't that.

Yes. The last thing Toronto needed was another superstar forward. They needed about 4 defensemen

While I understand what you're saying, the only other UFA Dman who would actually help the Leafs was Tyler Myers, but 6 million is just too much. Without JT the leafs don't make the playoffs this year and the offense is mediocre if I'm being honest

Making the playoffs isn't really a good thing if you lose in the first round every year. Would much rather have a lottery pick

Playoff success is largely luck based, but even with that people forget how fast Toronto turned around. They may have 3 1st round exits in a row, but they shouldn't have made it the first time and had no business winning the 2nd. This year is the first year they really should have won and even then 'should have' was a 51% chance before the suspension.

Toronto, as in the players, coach and even management like him, so why would they trade him? For spite? He's not calling the shots though in all of this, and you should know that by now.

It's not hard to imagine that the players agents are texting each other, if not the players themselves. Coordinating 10 different parties with one similiar goal of getting paid as much as they can isnt exactly rocket science.

If more than a couple of these star rfas hold out into the start of the season and start to mess with team planning, then you can bet that the billionaire owners will put those ambitious millionaire rfas in their place with a fight over changes they'll want to see with the CBA.

The hubris from these kids is pretty impressive, really..

I could see the agents doing this but idk about the players.

If it is the players themselves, they've all got huge gonads
