Zucker Trade

Description
I took the Zucker trade from here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/230252

MN fans: feel free to let me know what you think Fenton would accept from Edmonton for Zucker with retention, but please keep it civil. I added the retention because most MN rosters I see have plenty of cap space and Edmonton's is tight for another year or so.

Oilers should do that, Minnesota might be able to get a bit more but I'd say it's close.

Just wondering if MN would want Marody he is projected as 3-4C of which they have EKK, Sturm and Rask. Maybe replacing Marody with Bear even if that bumps the pick to 2nd rounder

I don't know what they want or need, but Marody did play RW when he was in Edmonton this past year. I would think Bear has as much value as Marody though?

Not sure you can qualify what the Oilers did to their call-ups this year as playing NHL games. Was some awful coaching imo. Always hated the you must grind it out on 3-4th line mentality for AHL players. Play them in a situation to thrive, not just survive. Was few games in there for Marody and Gambardella at 3 minutes or less.

I'm sure Bear has similar value to Marody probably just feels like less value cause Bouchard, Jones and co have slid him down the depth chart a bit

Yeah, but that doesn't make him less valuable to other teams. So if they want Bear instead of Marody, the other pieces don't change.

The deal I proposed a while back is Zucker for Puljujärvi and a 2nd. I’d probably do the same for Yamamoto.

Can the Wild retain $ for the 1st 2 years? If so, I would do it.

No, unfortunately not. Any retention is over the entire contract or not at all. The only way to "retain" for only part of the time would be to acquire a cap dump on a shorter contract instead of actually retaining on Zucker's contract.

Instead of retaining salary why not send them Manning and up the pick to a 2nd in 2020. Gets us out of Manning and them retaining plus they get an extra pick during the expansion year to maybe help influence Seattle

The problem with salary retention is the Wild should have cap space this year and maybe for the next year or two depending on how they manage it, but in 4 years when Zucker's deal is still on the books they'll hopefully be signing guys like Kaprizov, Fiala, Donato, Ek, Kunin and Greenway to bigger contracts and every bit of cap space will count. I don't think the Wild retain on a Zucker trade unless it's a serious overpay.

Zucker makes a lot of sense for Edmonton, I'd love to see him have a full season attached to McDavid because Zucker has the speed to keep up with him.

So its agreed Zucker@5.5M for Yamamoto, Manning and EDM 2nd round pick? Now just need to convince Fenton that Yamamoto is actually 30+ years old so he has some interest

I don't think Edmonton can afford it, but the cap issues are really only for this coming year so sending back Manning would effectively reduce Zucker's cap hit by $1.175M for 1 year (if Manning is buried in the minors). And I don't want to give up on Puljujarvi just yet. See below for a revised proposal.

Excellent idea. I'm up against the cap this year only - i have enough cap space in 2020 to consider signing Taylor Hall - so sending Manning back would work for this purpose. See below for (your) revised proposal.

This makes a lot of sense and dovetails nicely with Edmonton's needs: hard up against the cap for 2019-20 but plenty of space beyond that.

So something like this:

Edmonton Oilers
Zucker

Minnesota Wild
Yamamoto
2020 2nd round pick
Manning

That is a ridiculously good deal for Edmonton, they should be all over a deal like that if it's available to them. Adding Zucker this cheaply, a healthy McDavid and if their goaltending holds up they could be a playoff team, not a contender but they could make the playoffs.

I like Zucker too, but lets remember that he has averaged about 40 points per season over his career, he isn't a game-breaking talent.

I like it from Edmonton’s perspective, idk if Minnesota does that though, especially with salary retained. Maybe manning or gagner goes back the other way?

Gagner is still a useful player, so I think Manning works better. Cheaper for MNW, too.

Zucker's getting a lot of attention and so his value only continues to rise. Given his extremely friendly Cap # following Skinner's bank breaking deal... I think Zucker's stock will rise because the current UFA's are going to command big money like Skinner did. GM's will pay extra for a good priced Zucker. As a Day 1 Wild STH, I am not as interested in that deal and can't figure out for the life of me why Fenton (an idiot) would want to trade Zucker. As a Wild fan, I'd consider a Zucker for RNH straight up... Oil saves on cap, both good players and the Wild can use RNH to replace Mikko after he leaves next year.

Another possible option is #8 in this years draft for Zucker. Again, I would rather not trade Zucker but for your scenario that's what I would need. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Zucker is worth a 2nd alone, but not a 1st rounder and definitely not RNH.

Considering what NJ gave up for a 1 year younger Marcus Johansen, I'd go with Manning + Rights to Phil Kemp + 2019 3rd. Yamamoto or Marody would be a big blow to a prospect thin organization like Edm, IMO.
