<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Viqsi</b></div><div>They tend not to come easy when most of your forward corps is ripped to pieces by injuries. Neal at this point in his career is a slow middle-6 defensive liability; Tortorella wouldn't give him the time of day, let alone time on ice. And his contract extends into a third year, so he'd get in the way of resigning most of our core when they come up for new contracts in two years. I reiterate - he's valueless to the Jackets, and <strong>you</strong> have to pay <strong>us</strong> if you want us to take him on. Otherwise, feel free to retain your ostensible "useful goal scorer".</div></div>
I expect that Neal will be a high-scoring 4th line winger who can move up the line up as necessary and will be a net front presence on the top PP unit in the NHL this season.
If he is healthy he will score 12-15 goals and I bet you that is enough to be top 3 in Columbus this season.
We will see.

Lots of his businesses are restaurant service food which have been impacted by covid the worst. On a good year the coyotes have been losing 20 million but with the way things are this year they will lose about 80 because there will be no revenue sharing coming in from the other owners. Most teams will lose 40-50 million. It is a reality that they need to reduce their cap hit and get closer to 66 million than 81.5.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Viqsi</b></div><div>No, no, no, no. If you want us to take on James Neal, <strong>you</strong> pay <strong>us</strong>. He has no value to us whatsoever except as a possible means of weaponizing cap space to extract concessions in trade. Putting in all those conditions as though he might actually have any chance of having on-ice value is simply nonsensical - we've got a ton of wingers already, so there's nowhere to fit him in even if he <strong>wasn't</strong> a distant shadow of himself.</div></div>
It seems that people are so focused on what they THINK he is and on his cap hit that they are blind to actual facts. He was easily the 3rd best Oiler during the play-ins. He still is a very useful NHL goal scorer. The only season he was terrible was in Calgary, that is 1 season out of 12.
The only reason he didn't score 20, for the 11th out of 12 seasons was due to missing 16 games. He scored more goals in 15 fewer games that Dubois.
Seems to me that would have a smidge of value in Columbus, where goals don't come easy.

This is not correct. Conditions are not permitted unless the player does not have have a contract. So you cannot add a condition that rewards the team that traded a player away when that player resigns with the club that has acquired the player. (like the Erik Karlsson deal where Ottawa got San Jose's 2021 2nd Rounder).

Drastic Measures
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>Oilers decline very quickly. LOL, unthought out, yup okay. If an overpaid and over-valued Kassian and a handful of middling prospects are your hill to die on, then you are clearly uninformed about this franchise. Kassian's peak was the entire calendar year of 2019. He is not what you think he is. He is now an old, overpaid 3rd line RW.
Benson has the highest ceiling, but his foot speed might have him max out as a 2nd or 3rd line LW if he even makes it as a full-time NHLer. I think he is and will be blocked in Edm, so he won't be with the org much longer. I expect he will be scooped up by Seattle next season.
McLeod is at best a 3C, but more likely a 4C. He is easily moveable with limited franchise impact.
Sammy might top out as a 4 or 5 D, but again he is blocked by Nurse, Jones and Broberg.
Kemp might be a 6 or 7 NHL Dman in 2 years. Kesselring will be eating his lunch in 3 years.
You are a fan of mediocrity, clearly.

Official 2021 Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeyconnor97</b></div><div>Get Chiasson off the top line imo he's the 5th best right winger on this team</div></div>
I am picking up what you are putting down, but Kass will struggle, I know it, I've seen it and he doesn't have my confidence.
Chiasson is the #1 net front presence on the PP. He plays responsibly in his own end, better than no-show in most of 2020 Kass, who basically disappeared after he signed his over-priced extension.
Chiasson is better than Archibald, who is corrected slotted as the 4th line RW and on the #1 PK. Jesse should start the year on the 3rd line vs easier competition to give him some early success and build up his confidence.
Yamamoto is the best RW on the team right now, but needs to be stapled to Drai and Nuge.

Sheahan was decent on the dot and good on the PK, but he was an offensive black hole and got his head caved in at 5v5 and is demanding more money. I never resign him.
Brassard adds offense, has some grit, is Sheahans equal on the dot and puts up decent numbers 5v5, and can play up and down the line-up he is a superior option to Sheahan and would come in on a bargain contact.
The Oilers bottom 6 were horrawful, full stop. Brassard as your 4C means you are cooking with Plutonium. Why wouldn't you want to see that?

Kahun's Agent quoted in Germany that he has signed in Edmonton on a 1 year deal. No info on cost, but I expect it to be $1.5 M or less.
I am guessing Holland has a deal in the works and can't sign him until he has moved some money out. My guess is Chiasson gets moved out.

There isn't really anyone left who I'd rate much higher than Forsberg. Maybe Dell? Maybe Hutchinson? Do they bring Smith back? Or bring in Miller, Schneider, Howard...? Not looking good for a solid tandem from free agency right now. Unless they have a trade in the works, I don't see Forsberg being anything less than a backup to Koskinen, which is not ideal at all. Besides, do you really want Forsberg stealing games from our three young tenders in the minors?</div></div>
I was hoping for a trade with Columbus or a trade for Francouz, something like that. I didn't expect a Smith signing, but a better move than for MAF in my opinion.
Edmonton needs a reliable 3rd G, see what happened to the Avs? Skinner will be the #2 in the Bake and that is fine, goalies take forever and Skinner has more work to do.
Wells is as much of a suspect as a prospect, he will be out of the org next year and should be in the ECHL along with rookie po Rodrigue.

Horrible decision, Tippett clearly has a Blindspot, Holland deferring to his coach and ignoring reality. Forsberg is a better bet at 2 G in 2020 than the ancient and eroding Smith....

This is a very under appreciated signing by Holland. I had him on my wishlist and will be the #3 tender in the org.
I see him as the type of goalie who comes out of nowhere to become a bonafide NHLer. Right age and experience, it takes most goalies eons to make it, usually in the 26 to 28 year old age range.
He will be great to have if injuries impact the NHL roster.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KMMHL2012</b></div><div>too many players taking discounts on their contracts.
Hall isn't signing a 1 year $5M deal... Debrusk is more in the 3.5-4 range on a 2y and Sergachev is probably 500k-1M more on a 2y term.
Koivu could be around $1M though, so that should free up some room.</div></div>
You make good points, but the premise of this roster is about vet players using the opportunity to boost their stats for bigger paydays for the next season and RFA's having no leverage due to Cap restraints.
Koivu can also choose to retire, so his presence as a mentor to Laine & JP is very important, and his leadership and experience would be worth it to the young leadership group.
The others may be cool with lower contracts to boost their next contract (Barrie/Hall) and also enable the team to afford to compete by accepting lower dollars. No one likes to be underpaid, but DeBrusk is a local kid and Sergachev may have a better perspective having be moved due to salary cap issues.

Chiarelli and McLellan are gone, so the people he hated are gone. He played excellently with Leon when he wasn't Leon. A 1 yr lower deal to rack up points and perhaps finish what he started with 2 fellow Hart winners might stoke his fire.
