St. Louis Blues signed Dylan Peterson (2 Years / $925,000 AAV)
If he plays NHL games, I’d be very surprised.
In my opinion this player is from a long line of big, fast, skilled guys who are not physical and tantalize with their tools, but just do not have that exceptional competitive win at all costs drive that career NHLers have.
I’ve been watching him for a while and I wish him well, but he reminds me of Brendan Perlini. Justin Bailey is also recent example of this player type.
No matter how he performs, there always will be NHL General Managers lining up to give him a chance, because these players will always get chances that their actual results suggest that they should not get.
I sincerely hope he proves me wrong and that he has a long and successful NHL career.

(ANA/CAR/TOR) - Lyubushkin for Slepets for 2025 3rd (TOR), 2024 6th (TOR)
It’s not like they acquired Walker for a 1st+.
D depth is important. Plus they got an indefinite 5th rounder and double retention on a known commodity (he is a minimum salary depth defender, after all) for a 6th.
That is pretty solid GMing no matter how you slice it and if you think otherwise you are being captious.

To clear at least some cap space this season and minimize the impact on it next season.
I’d like to see what it would be like to have an Ovechkinesque shooter on this team and to see what impact this leadership group might have on him.
It’s not that he sucks, it’s that his attitude/effort level sucks.

Stand Back I Dont Know How Big This Thing Will Get
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoVaSpartan</b></div><div>Few things here:
- despite playing a "4th line" role Dowd is playing much closer to low 2nd-3rd line minutes averaging almost 16 minutes a game, he can easily fit into a defensive 3rd line role.
- He's one of the best defensive forwards in the league in models such as A&R, and has consistently helped shut down top lines, something pretty much no other line can do for Washington.
- He has an extremely low cap hit plus the extra year on his contract, making him valuable over the next two years.
- Lars Eller returned a 2nd round pick while in a down year, and not only is Dowd better defensively, he's got the extra year and is outscoring Eller from last year on an offensively inept team.
Bottom line, if a team wants Dowd they're going to have to pay up, and Washington is going to be looking for at least a 2nd.</div></div>
You could right, he appears to be elite as a bottom 6 shut-down defender, and a RHC to boot, but typically offensive players are worth 1st & 2nd rounders and the defensive types are 3rd rounders or lower.
The market will dictate.
Is Dowd even available?

That is an extreme over pay for a 4th line Center, despite the additional year. I don’t agree with that valuation at all.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trevor31lv</b></div><div>So you've paid for Columbus to eat Campbell's deal.....MAYBE a bit more. But how are you getting Laine with retention AND Ceulemans, who they've got no incentive to move?</div></div>
They would move the offensively oriented Ceulemans for more well-rounded, but offensively gifted Akey (the kid is a sublime skater and has a rocket shot, should have been a much higher pick). Ceulemans seems to be struggling, so this trade adds more value to the deal for CBJ and brings CC home.
Laine has extremely underperformed expectations, and Campbell’s (seriously) incredible personality will replace the distracting Elvis to help the young CBJ tenders along. Change of scenery therapy for everyone.
Campbell needs to move to a place with less pressure and should be pretty good.
Laine retained prevents a potential total $8.7 million write-off…

Ceci is a top pairing Dman on better teams than what the Flames have had over the past 3 seasons, but okay.
Kulak will be better than the leftover LHD on that roster after Hainfin is sold off.
These players are not pending UFA’s and can easily be traded if they aren’t good enough for that team.

Laine & Boqvist, like Campbell, are not playing NHL-level hockey, they do have NHL skills, but they are bad right now. Campbell is a cheap buy-out for CBJ, but Edmonton can’t afford to buy him out.
Kulak and Foegele could likely net CBJ 2 3rd rounders at the TDL, but they give the team actual NHL talent and the 2 first rounders are actually kinda slightly valuable.

Awesome, then that becomes their problem. Why would another GM want someone else’s problem for free. There is a premium cost for that in this NHL.
A team like SJ would then have 49 contracts, so I doubt SJ would make a claim for a player who can’t currently play hockey at an NHL level.
They want solutions, not more problems.

If someone wants to take him, so be it. But I really doubt that happens.
Since the playoffs to date Skinner has been rocking about an 88% percent save percentage, including preseason games. He has easily been the worst NHL goalie in each of these segments and cumulatively.
If someone takes him, good luck to them.

He’s paid to be the starter, so he should be.
His game clearly recovered by the time the playoffs started and in the playoffs in his limited appearances, he got his game back.
I am convinced that had Woody started Campbell in Game 6, the Oilers would have won the Cup.

Brown joined the Oilers to win a Cup and also earn a rich contract for next season. He has not played a playoff game since 2019 and has never gotten passed the 1st round.
Draisaitl can help him do that too.

Drai needs all the help he can get in the Dzone and Brown is more defensively responsible than Hyman. Nuge & Brown fit the bill.

Your bias against Ceci is blinding you to the fact that he played top-5 hardest minutes in the league over the past 2 years and came out of it with 51.55 xGF%. There's evidence that Petry would be a clear downgrade.</div></div>
I am not biased against Ceci. This past season he struggled, but I know he had a core injury. Not sure why he wasn’t shut down, hopefully he is healed.
I know Petry had some distractions and injuries, but he also still can skate, pass and shoot at high levels. I think there is still something substantial there.

Petry’s in-laws live in Houston, so Dallas or anywhere close would likely be acceptable. Given his career is coming to a close I expect he will end up on a contender.

I think he still has a lot to give and it would be something to see a hungry & motivated Petry on this team. The guy still skates exceptionally well, he may not have been what he was 3 seasons ago, but he was dealing with family stuff, on top of playing for a horrible Habs and a flawed Pens roster.
Other than Pesce (and that trade is not available to Edm) I see no other solution to give this top 4 the boost it needs. Ceci is definitely not that player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CapFriendly</b></div><div>Raphael Lavoie has signed a new contract with the Edmonton Oilers.</div></div>
This is very disappointing.
I was very surprised to learn that it was not a minimum salary deal and even more surprised that at $100 K more than minimum, that it is not a 2 year deal. With experienced NHL utility players on PTO’s who will no doubt be fighting for their careers at camp and who will have no choice but to take minimum salary deals, he may not even see an NHL game this season.
I hope I am wrong, but no matter how well he plays he won’t be more than a 4th line winger to start, if he makes the team out of camp. And with his salary, injuries will be the only thing that gets him on the roster.
We all saw how the salary cap impacted players (Janmark) early in the season last year….
I do not think this was a smart move, this is a straight-up gamble. His Agent should be providing better advice than this for a player with zero NHL games, the strategy has to be to do anything possible to get his client on the NHL team.
