He has 8 goals, 19 points in 41 games while playing 4th line minutes this season. His scoring looks a lot like Puustinen's, and he's 2 years younger.

I'm still pretty bullish on Nick Robertson, so that may have something to do with it. And as much as I love Pettersson, I don't know how valuable GMs view him.
I see Pettersson to NJD for a 1st and Bahl fairly often. This isn't much different value-wise, IMO.

As the other guys said, the Pens decline.
I'll disagree on Jarry being off the table, but I think it's unlikely.
Problem being is that Vilen and Filmon aren't really valuable. Scott Wheeler's ranking last month listed them as NJD's 8th and 10th best prospects respectively, in a below average prospect pool.
A previous ACGM had Bahl and Holtz instead. If that's too much for the Devils, so be it. But Vilen and Filmon aren't enough.

Let's be real. Guentzel isn't going to Toronto. The Leafs can't keep him long term, and that Guentzel offer isn't close.

He comes off LTIR immediately after the deadline. The injury won't detract from his value.
What you suggested is IMO less than what Elias Lindholm got. Guentzel is a much better player than Lindholm.

Honestly, I think Pettersson is one of the safer Penguins. If we were to trade him, I wouldn't mind a return like that.

Trying to Make a Guentzel Trade based on the style of Elias Lindholm Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>That’s a lot more than Vancouver gave up for Lindholm.</div></div>
How so?
Raty is the Canucks' 4th best prospect on Scott Wheeler's recent list. Brzustewicz is Calgary's 5th best in a pool Wheeler ranked a couple spots higher than Vancouver's. So I'm willing to say that they're fairly close in value as prospects.
Mynio is probably a little better of a prospect than Jurmo.
Kuzmenko and Mikheyev have pretty comprable statlines this year. I think Kuzmenko's great '22-'23 would make him a bit more valueable, GMs can look at that as something they could get from him. Mikheyev doesn't have a season like that.
Both are a package of a middle 6 winger, B/B+ prospect, C prospect, 1st, and 4th.

And Dvorak, even at 50% retained, isn't very good. 7 points in 25 games while getting ~16 minutes a night. He's tied in points with Zohorna. Z played 6 more games, but averaged 10 minutes a night.
Poulin has 23 points in 28 AHL games. That's twice as many as Puustinen had, in only a couple more games. There is no guarantee that Dvorak will be the better player on opening day next season.

Thoughts on Summer - Please Read Description
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pens1991</b></div><div>DeBrusk and Bertuzzi were definitely my main "down year" candidates here.
Boeser is definitely a very very long shot (and unlikely) but my thought process is that there will be teams again even with the cap moving up that have to move a contract.
Personally i'd make someone like Mangiapane a priority after Jake (and if Dubas can move Rakell, I think Smith goes at the deadline).</div></div>
I wouldn't be surprised if Smith goes, but Rakell's term makes him a tougher sell IMO.
Boeser is probably pretty squarely off the table. But the 3rd line of Joshua-Blueger-Garland has been exceptional and I can see one of them being a cap casualty before Brock. (Ok, maybe I just miss Blueger a little.)
One down year candidate I seriously considered was Victor Olofsson. I'm not sure why he's been forced into a 4th line role this year, but his game has suffered for it. I'm absolutely down to give him 2nd or 3rd line minutes on a prove it contract given his scoring history.

Thoughts on Summer - Please Read Description
A lot of good stuff to unpack here, and I have a lot of the same thoughts.
I have a novel of an ACGM in progress with the same mentality of filling out a younger, better supporting cast in the offseason. I mentioned Carrier, Bertuzzi, Novak, and (if we move Graves) Forsling myself, but there are also some good ideas like DeBrusk and Mangianape that slipped through the cracks. I could see Mangianape, Boeser, Stephenson, and Necas all as having high enough cap hits to limit the depth a little more, so I'm more inclined to find a player on a down year and give them a prove it deal.
Would love to see what your ideal lineup would look like, and I hope Dubas is thinking along the same train of thought.

Depth or Guentzel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>He was very immature in PIT and frankly burned every bridge here.
He was a moody little kid who thought he was the next best thing to sliced bread, When he got the the NHL level and got his "chance" as limited as you say it was, is because he was back checked to the ice constantly and shoved all over the ice.
Maybe, big maybe too since people don't change, being bounced around from team to team has humbled him. But there is no place for him here. Period. He will never play here again. He burned those bridges and when he was told to put up or shut up, he bombed out. Don't blame that on the staff or his opportunity or whatever. They tried to work with him, tell him he wasn't ready, and prepare him for the next level. He didn't want to listen.</div></div>
I think this is an unreasonable amount of vitriol against the guy for what amounted to like half a season's worth of games as a Penguin 6 or 7 years ago. The teenager playing in the highest tier hockey league in the world needed to mature a little? Color me surprised.
"People don't change", "No place for him here", do you hear yourself? I genuinely have no idea how anyone can be that pessimistic over this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>Sprong didn't work there before? What has changed?</div></div>
Sprong averaged under 10 minutes a night in Pittsburgh and was 21 when we traded him. He wasn't exactly given an opportunity to work here.
Now he's a fully established NHLer with a track record of providing great depth scoring.

Just comparing the two on evolving-hockey, I'm not seeing Mikheyev's numbers being more impressive. I think they've been fairly comprable players this season, and Vancouver just has the luxury of playing him in 3rd line minutes.
For what it's worth, I don't think Smith and Malkin have a lot of synergy. I think it could be a good bet for both teams to find a guy who fits their scheme better and have their numbers improve.

Works for Pens fans. Smith and Malkin used up all their chemistry in the first 2 weeks of the season. The change of scenery would probably do him good, and I'll take a 3LD upgrade and some cap space for the trouble.

Summer 2024
I'm not a fan. I think there's too much focus on improving the defense and not enough on the forward depth. Even at the way they're playing this year, I think Raks and Smith are upgrades over Vrana and Duclair.
There's no point in aquiring Chabot and his $8M cap hit and then playing him on the 3rd pairing.
Why are we aquiring Holloway for Guentzel and then not playing him in the NHL? I'd bet on him taking a step forward over a vet like Vrana or Labanc.

I think the value is way off in CBJ's favor in the Jenner deal. I get that Rakell is having a down season offensively, but I have a hard time believing his value craters that badly because of it.
As much as I would like the cap space that moving Carter gets us, I don't think he waives his NMC for anyone, let alone that Sharks team.
Yager can't be called up this season, and I don't think he'll be NHL ready until '25-'26 at the earliest.
I do think the Toronto trade is worth considering if they're willing to part with Domi.

I would do a 1st, Broberg and one of (A second rounder, Raph Lavoie or Carter Savoie). The second prospect/pick would be included for the Pens to retain salary.
Anything more than that and I would look elsewhere if I were the Oilers.</div></div>
I wouldn't consider either Broberg or Holloway to have 1st round pick value right now. They were drafted 5 and 4 drafts ago respectively. Broberg still hasn't earned a permanent spot in the NHL, and Holloway hasn't produced very well. Maybe one or both are in need of a change of scenery, but I doubt either of them are going to reach their ceilings. Broberg especially.
Neither look like good bets to have 1st rounder upside at the point they're at.

Nedeljkovic trade doesn't do the Pens much good. I'm not convinced that they're going to be selling this year, so Ned isn't necessarily available. Even in the case that he was, the Pens already have Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov in the system. Akhatiamov looks like a pretty solid prospect, but the Pens need skaters in the prospect pool a lot more than they need another goalie.
