<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bigZ98</b></div><div>I for one think the penguins could aquire zucker or someone as good or even better than zucker without trading legere or poulin</div></div>
Zucker, maybe. Another winger...doubtful. Remember, Zucker almost came here for Kessel. That's a pretty high caliber asset. Guerin isn't going to give us Zucker for nothing. The only hope would be that Guerin, from his time here, is fond of a prospect we fans aren't as high on....someone like a Kasper BJorkqvist of Fillip Hallander.
We just don't have a lot of prospect right now. Other teams do, and can easily outbid the Penguins if we aren't offering decent returns. Bjugstad might be the only piece we have that other teams (at least over the summer) were very interested in.

what do we do
I don't hate the deals. I'd probably want something more in the Scandella trade. Even though Bjugstad has struggled this season, he still has another year term left. I'd ask for a late round pick, like a 4th, or maybe even someone like Girgensons, who could give the team a little more experienced depth (and size) over guys like Blandisi and Lafferty.
On the Hall trade, I don't think Hallander is a good enough prospect. I think you'd have to include one of Legare, Poulin, or Addison to make it work. I'd only be willing to give up the 1st if Hall signs. Galchenyuk, Legare, and a conditional 2021 2nd (which becomes a 2020 1st if Hall resigns). Hall is a big name, but, I'm not sure Shero is going to be able to get more than 3 assets back for him, with his UFA status and all signs pointing to him wanting out. Legare is the prize here, and the 1st if the Penguins can get Hall signed.

Three Team Trade PIT OTT ANA
So wait a second....the Penguins are giving up Rust, Hallander, Johnson, and a 2020 1st.....and all they get in return is Carter F$%^$ Rowney and a 5th round pick???? Nice to meet you Mrs. Rowney. Your son was a swell guy, but these trades are making me quite ill.
Seriously, why are we GIVING away Rust, who has value, AND having to add a 1st to do it. The Penguins are getting nothing of value here in return. I know they need cap space, but this isn't the way to do it.

You sure? Because Rust is actually a pretty similar player to Zucker. Zucker may have more scoring potential, but he's also 2M more expensive. Like Kessel for Pittsburgh, seems to be a matter of when not if Zucker gets moved, and the thought seems to be that Minnesota wants to clear space to make runs at UFAs. Kessel may be a better scorer, but he costs you more than Zucker.

How does Detroit plan on getting younger on defense? Kronwall, Daley, Ericsson, DeKeyser, and Green. Other than Bowey and Cholowski, you don't have much youth on the blue line, and you have an abundance of good young forwards in Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Rasmussen, Zadina, Svechnikov, and Athanasiou. Detroit is likely going to have to use one of those guys to improve the blue line. The team has already had issues signing AA once, so, seems like he would be the most likely to be moved.

Not enough incentive for the Avs. Its a move for the sake of making a move for them while the Pens get younger and faster without sacrificing too much.</div></div>
I'm a Penguins fan, so I am probably a bit biased this way, but I've actually wondered about a similar deal being made. I was looking at Kerfoot or Compher coming back the other way at forward. With Cale Makar coming on, there has been some talk that Colorado may look to move Barrie. If Schultz was able to resign in the 4.5-5.5M range for 3 years (I don't think he has done enough to warrant an increase in $$), does that change your mind at all? Gives Makar a full year to play 3rd pairing, and then swap him and Schultz. Barrie is going to cost more than 5.5M after this year, which Colorado may not want to pay with Makar in the wings and Johnson still pulling down 6M.

Fair enough feedback. You don't see your team needing some younger replacements for Kronwall, Ericsson, Daley, and Dekeyser, or young goalie, which, I don't see any decent ones in the Detroit system? If you don't like Maatta or Jarry, that's fine, but just curious on your views on those as possible needs.

No way does Detroit give us Bertuzzi for Johnson. What does Detroit actually gain there? You could maybe try Maatta for a Bertuzzi or Athanisiou, since Detroit has 3 defenseman over 35, 2 at 29, and could use a young guy like Maatta, but Johnson helps them none.
Besides the fact that the Aho offer sheet is impossible since Penguins would need their own 3rd rounder in 2019 (not 2020), which they no longer possess, there isn't a chance in hell that Aho signs an offer sheet for 1.5M. Offer sheet requires a team to submit the offer, and the player to sign it. Aho had more points the last 2 years than Jake Guentzel did over the last 2 years....and Guentzel just got 6M per year. Aho's looking at 7-8M a year easily.

Rust Move and What it means (Discussion)
ZAR is a LW, not a RW. But, I really can't envision them wanting to pay Rust 3.5M to play on the 4th line. He will never live up to his contract getting only 4th line minutes and PK duty. Rust has Hornqvist, Kessel, and Sprong ahead of him on the RW. If they move him back to LW, which he can play but he loses maybe 25% effectiveness, then you have Guentzel, Hagelin, Sheary, Rust, and ZAR.
I think Sheary is a goner at this point, along with Hunwick if they can move him. Moving both for cap space would allow Penguins to keep Sheahan and Oleksiak, and still possibly have room for Duclair and/or Jack Johnson.

Goodbye Kessel
I don't see anything wrong with the trades you made per se, but, I don't like the overall makeup of the roster. If you are trading Kessel, you need to get a good, young, impact forward back in return. I like Domi, and think he has upside, but not enough for me to make that trade. You've traded Kessel and Sheary (over 50 goals scored last year), and only added Domi (9 goals, season high of 18 2 years ago) back in return. These trades focus too much on defense, and do not give enough return up front. The team becomes weaker up front with nothing in WBS in terms of top 6 forwards.
I'd rather just see Sheary and something other than ZAR go for Andersson, and trade Kessel elsewhere for a better return up front. An example....Sam Reinhart from Buffalo.

Pens and Carolina?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>Wutttt? We have a ton of RW’s/guys that play both wings. The reason the pens are open to trading him is because we have an over abundance of guys that can play RW.
Hornqvist, Rust, Sheary, Kessel, Rowney, Kuhnhackl, Sprong just all off the top of the dome. We need a legit top 6 LW, which skinner is but the pens will want more</div></div>
Hornqvist cannot play LW. He has said early on he can. Every time he has tried, he has been totally ineffective.
Sprong is a RW only. Similar to Hornqvist, he says he has played LW in the past. Other than manning the LW on the PP, ala Phil, Sprong has played nothing but RW at NHL and AHL level.
Rust can play both wings. He is much more effective on RW, however. The dropoff isn't as huge as someone like Phil or Hornqvist, but he does produce more on RW.
Hagelin is exclusively a LW. Never played a RW shift that I have ever seen, with or without the Penguins.
Rowney......should.....not....be....on....this....team.
Kuhnhackl should be 13th forward next year.

Pens and Carolina?
Jack Johnson will command much more than 2M, so that part won't work. All the other salaries are fair, but I also think banking on the cap being it's highest possible level is a stretch as well. I would also move Sheary for a pick to free up cap space. You'd also likely have to swap Grabner and Rust, as Grabner isn't going to come here to be a 4th line winger. Same with Skinner....should be placing a consistent 20 goal scorer down the lineup below Hagelin.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jake_H</b></div><div>How does that Carolina trade help the Pens, exactly?</div></div>
Skinner is a skilled, fast winger, who can play both sides of center. The Penguins would need a guarantee they can resign Skinner, and maybe something else back in the deal, but if the Penguins are going to continue with a speed team concept, Skinner is up there in the top 10-15 fastest skaters in the league.

Looks like he was playing RW with Crosby and Guentzal when he wasn't playing LW with Crosby and Hornqvist, and then after Brassard was acquired Sheary played more with Brass or Sheahan.
I'm just pointing this out so the facts aren't skewed. I think asking for a 4th and a 6/7th d-man like Beaulieu for Sheary is perfectly fine and I agree, he's a good complementary player.</div></div>
Your facts are sound. Sheary has proven that he is largely only successful when on a line with Crosby. Away from Crosby, he does not produce, and worse, he isn't very good away from the puck either. Pretty one dimensional player, streaky player.

W/ Brassard 2018-2019
Couple of things here.
1. You are over the cap so.....this won't work...however.....
2. Zero chance Cole resigns here for 2.5M. He's won 2 Cups. While coaching staff here may not like him, someone else will pay him 3.5-4M on the open market. Remove Cole, as he almost assuredly won't be here next year.
3. I think the Rust and Hornqvist contracts are fair. The biggest issue with Hornqvist will be how many years, but you don't need to worry about that in this scenario.
4. Sprong doesn't need an almost 300K raise. He has done nothing at the NHL level yet. He'd get a minimum 10% qualifying raise, putting him at about 770K
5. Simon is in a similar boat. While he performed better, Simon is probably more in line to get 700-800K and a 1-way only contract (similar to what Kuhnhackl and Rust got a few years ago).
6. I'd move on from Kuhnhackl. They have a few options like Blueger, DiPauli, and Johnson....or Simon, that could play for a little less.
7. Sheahan likely gets close to 3M if not a little over. He's back on pace similar to a few years ago with Detroit. He shouldn't be taking less with his improved play.
8. Jarry also in similar boat to Simon. No need to give him 1.5M after a dozen or so good games. Give him a 1-way contract for 800K. Getting a 1-way deal is a big step for a young guy. They often have to give up some salary to get it if they aren't a top 6 type performer.
Give more to Sheahan, drop Cole, drop Kuhnhackl, a little less money to Sprong, Jarry, and Simon, and I think you MIGHT be able to fit it under

Adding without Subtracting
These aren't horrible deals, but I see a few issues. Maybe NYR still take a 1st, but they seemed to have changed their ask to a 2nd rounder AND a top prospect. So it would likely take a 2nd rounder and Sprong.
Winnipeg isn't keen to want to move Lowry, and I don't think anything in that package moves the needle much to make them want to do it.
I like the moves, just not sure they work for the teams we are trading with. I also wouldn't acquire Grabner for the 4th line. I'd put him up with Sid on the RW, with ZAR on the LW.

I think you have overpaid for Pageau. Sheary has a little bit better overall numbers than Pageau. Sheary for Pageau, maybe add in the 4th, is fine. No way Sheary and a 2nd. Too much given up by PIT there.
On the NYR trade, I think that one is pretty fair. As you said, Rangers could flip Cole, or, maybe they move McDonagh, which has been rumored, and then resign Cole to take his spot. This trade is pretty even.
The Daley trade I think is very unlikely. Not really good value for either team.

Good lord do you severely undervalue Pittsburgh's assets. If the Penguins were to trade Hornqvist at the deadline, he'd be one of the top hauls even with UFA status. Hornqvist is on his way to his 5th straight 20 goal season and is a model of consistency. Bennett has come nowhere close to Hornqvist numbers, ever. I like Bennett, but, if Bennett for Hornqvist was the main part of the deal, I'd expect Calgary to be kicking in additional pieces even without a resign of Hornqvist.
Gustavsson is one of the Penguins top prospects, that Rutherford has said teams are asking about this year. If traded, he'd be used to get a much stronger piece than Strome or Letestu. Rutherford also isn't going to trade away two of his goalies. With these trades, Jarry or Murray get injured, and the Penguins are dressing a career AHLer as a backup.

Jesus, how many centers do you want on this team???? Pens aren't going to acquire Staal to play him on Geno's left wing, he'd be a 3C. So would Bjugstad. Jokinen is also C/W. There's just all kinds of NO with this, without getting into the details of who/what is given up to get the players. Why are we going dumpster diving on Iginla and Wideman?
If you stopped at Staal OR Bjugstad, and maybe McElhinney, this might be ok. But, nope.
