How does that Carolina trade help the Pens, exactly?

If we are going to trade Kessel I think it is very similar to a Horny/Neal deal where we trade two players around same talent level.

I for one am against trading Kessel and think Pittsburgh isn't going to find a guy that matches his production for the $ value we have him at and Sullivan should just man up and play him with Malkin or we sign JVR.

I don't like the idea of trading Kessel for more cap space (cause than we over pay for a FA) and I hate trading him for a D man cause than we fix one position and create hole elsewhere. Plus Kessel is a RW which we have none of. Figured trading for Skinner who plays both sides gives us more flexibility.

Skinner is a skilled, fast winger, who can play both sides of center. The Penguins would need a guarantee they can resign Skinner, and maybe something else back in the deal, but if the Penguins are going to continue with a speed team concept, Skinner is up there in the top 10-15 fastest skaters in the league.

Wutttt? We have a ton of RW’s/guys that play both wings. The reason the pens are open to trading him is because we have an over abundance of guys that can play RW.
Hornqvist, Rust, Sheary, Kessel, Rowney, Kuhnhackl, Sprong just all off the top of the dome. We need a legit top 6 LW, which skinner is but the pens will want more

Jack Johnson will command much more than 2M, so that part won't work. All the other salaries are fair, but I also think banking on the cap being it's highest possible level is a stretch as well. I would also move Sheary for a pick to free up cap space. You'd also likely have to swap Grabner and Rust, as Grabner isn't going to come here to be a 4th line winger. Same with Skinner....should be placing a consistent 20 goal scorer down the lineup below Hagelin.

Hornqvist cannot play LW. He has said early on he can. Every time he has tried, he has been totally ineffective.
Sprong is a RW only. Similar to Hornqvist, he says he has played LW in the past. Other than manning the LW on the PP, ala Phil, Sprong has played nothing but RW at NHL and AHL level.
Rust can play both wings. He is much more effective on RW, however. The dropoff isn't as huge as someone like Phil or Hornqvist, but he does produce more on RW.
Hagelin is exclusively a LW. Never played a RW shift that I have ever seen, with or without the Penguins.
Rowney......should.....not....be....on....this....team.
Kuhnhackl should be 13th forward next year.

Kessel is still one of the fastest players in the NHL. Seems like a pointless, lateral move.
