cap shenanigans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zk97</b></div><div>Vegas already has a Roy, not sure they'd need another :tearsofjoy
Not too sure cuz I'm not a VGK fan, but my guess is a 2nd for Hague (3rd pair guy) and a 1st for Roy (good third line centre, fringe 2nd line)</div></div>
2nd+ is probably about right for Hague mostly because of age, but I'm guessing Roy also costs 2nd + mid-round - most middle-6 Cs go for around that, and I'd imagine the price is lower since Vegas probably only trades Roy if they really have to for cap reasons.

It'd make sense - honestly, Martinez is a cap dump in this scenario, and I don't exactly imagine Kolesar is untouchable either. We'd probably want something coming back if we're trading Kolesar, though, since there's really no point otherwise - maybe Martinez + Kolesar for Olofsson?

Next year with PLD
I really can't see Vegas being interested in Edmundson, assuming the D core stays around: Martinez, McNabb, Hague, and Whitecloud are all honestly at least as good as, if not better than Edmundson, not to mention Theodore and Pietrangelo - that's their top 6 D right there.

Building a more complete team
I’m a definitely not on the Sharangovich trade for Vegas - Sharangovich does meet a team need and Bahl might not be that bad, but it’s not nearly enough to justify giving uo Hague IMO. Besides, we actually don’t need to shed salary for once this offseason.

meier to VGK long-term
Last I saw, it was actually going up $4 million (https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-salary-cap-could-increase-by-at-least-4-million-in-2023-24/c-336522332) - obviously, this is out of the question if it only goes up $1 million unless we dump Marchy/Smith/Karlsson/Lehner - which, honestly, would be pretty classic VGK.

Fair enough, I was just looking at teams that might be interested in him and Ottawa seemed to come up quite a bit. I'm sure there's a few options if VGK looks to move Karlsson.

eichel cap gymnastics
Yeah, that's the issue - I did try creating them, but they wouldn't let me put the cap hit below $750k even though that's the idea of 75% retention across two teams (Buff retains 50%, AZ retains 50% of that 50%).

eichel to vegas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>I keep forgetting this. Shame on me</div></div>
Eh, no worries - that being said, even if we weren't exempt, our protection list would pretty much be a no-brainer - Marche/Karlsson/Smith/Patch/Stone, then Tuch/Stephenson or Eichel/Roy depending on when this hypothetical trade happens, then Pietro/Theo/McNabb on D, pick a goalie and pay Seattle to not take the other one. I don't imagine we'd gain much cap space unless we were willing to lose one of Lehner/Fleury in the expansion draft.

Retool
1st ovr. for 3rd ovr. + 5th ovr. is an interesting idea; I'm not sure Ottawa accepts that, since I feel like they'd prefer Stutzle/Byfield + probably Drysdale or Rossi to Laf, but it's honestly one of the more plausible 1st ovr. trades. With Stastny, Vegas only trades him if it's assured Lehner will stay with the extra cap gained from trading Stastny, and even then, for more than -1 draft pick, so that's an easy no. Not like you'll need him anyways with one of Stutzle or Byfield.

Trades with Knights and Hawks
I've said this in far too many threads and I'll say it again: neither Fleury nor Tuch are being traded for Risto and spare parts. Our blue line is pretty set in stone for the next few seasons and trading Tuch at his lowest value isn't going to do us any favors.

The value of that trade's actually pretty reasonable on both sides, especially by Armchair GM standards, but it's still tough for me to see Philly taking that. Philly's already pretty deep on C, so they don't have much need for a Max Domi.

Would VGK Do This For Deangelo at TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rja</b></div><div>If I recall correctly, Schmidt plays the right side though left handed, so you would need to complement either Theodore or McNabb. I think Mcnabb's stay at home style would work really well with Deangelo. And again, he's on pace for approx 65 points; that could warrant a first rounder + for a right-handed shot defenseman, which are hard to come by in this league. I think with the tons of picks Vegas has over the next couple of drafts, it's really not a huge price for a top 4 dman that could/should be there long term.</div></div>
Schmidt does play right-hand side left handed, and right now is paired with McNabb. Theo is paired with Hague on the right side as well at the moment, but would work really well with a stay-at-home player. Apart from that, you have Merrill, Engelland, and Holden, of which only Engelland is really considered a stay-at-home player and is honestly not good. Again, if we're looking to grab a defenseman, we're looking for a stay-at-home player. Other teams would be willing to pay a 1st round pick for him, but probably not Vegas.

Would VGK Do This For Deangelo at TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rja</b></div><div>I mean 19 points in 25 games on a team like the rangers should be considered impressive. VGK will have his rights and they have neither a solid offensive defenseman, nor a right-handed shot defenseman outside of Engelland and who knows if he'll be back next season. This way they have their RHD locked up for at least 3 years (probably more). It's a late first rounder this year, and then a late second rounder next year. The swapping picks was too afford VGK additional cap space to take on Holden. I think because VGK have so many picks, this could be worth it for them.</div></div>
Offensive D isn't really out problem - we already have Schmidt and Theodore for that. DeAngelo would help our team out, but not enough that we'd be justified sending a 1st round pick the other way just to get him. If I'm looking to improve Vegas D, I'm looking at a top-4 defensive player to complement Schmidt/Theo.

Ristolainen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMTD</b></div><div>I think we will all be surprised at the return for Ristolainen. This would be one of the best return anyone could expect.
While this would be a great return for Buffalo (young RW, good cap, locked for 7 years), I do not see Vegas and Buffalo being trading partners.
Betterall already got the better of the Miller deal and if McPhee wanted a PP QB he would not have made that trade.</div></div>
Right. I think a 1st + two young studs is an overpay, but I could see something like a 1st/2nd + prospect or a roster player being the return for Risto. Like I said, Vegas isn't trading for Risto, but if we were trading a top-6 caliber player on our team, Smith is likely the most expendable. Tuch only gets traded as part of a package for Vegas to acquire a superstar, which is unlikely since they already have Mark Stone.

Vegas isn't paying two promising young players and a 1st for a PP quarterback - if that's what we needed, we would've kept Miller.

Bergevin would either laugh at that offer or lose his job. Montreal would be insane to give up Caufield <em>alone</em> for Darnell Nurse, let alone that plus Alzner, a 2nd, and eating the Lucic contract.

It would be a more balanced trade, but Tuch isn't somebody the Knights are going to look to trade. I'd probably say swap Buffalo's 1st for a 2nd or 3rd round pick to make this a more realistic trade, if the pick fits in at all.

Honestly, the Vegas trade might be an overpay on Buffalo's end. Haula and Miller are solid players on cheap contracts, but not game-breaking. Three prospects, a first-rounder, and eating the Clarkson contract would be a miracle to get in return for those two, especially considering the Knights have almost zero leverage.

Yes, this is admittedly an ape**** scenario. I don't think a Schmidt trade is particularly likely unless we're extremely desperate, but in such a scenario we'll probably get fleeced a bit.

Ristolainen to Vegas
That trade is an easy no from Vegas. Ristolainen is good, yes, but another solid defenseman, a top-6 forward, a 2nd rd. pick, and a movement down the 1st round is an insane overpayment for a player we don't even really need considering Theo, Schmidt, and our deep defensive prospect pool.

You're getting pretty close to the cap, it'll be tough to improve the team at deadline IMO.
