First off, I'm not an expert on trading, so if the value's way off, let me know. Buffalo gets a young player that will almost assuredly be a part of their long-term core, a prospect with the potential to also be a part of their long-term core, two 1sts, and one more contract to clear up cap needed to fit in Eichel who isn't half bad, so I think it's pretty reasonable for Buffalo.
I mostly did this a thought experiment rather than as something Vegas ought to or ought not to do. Eichel, of course, is the kind of player any team would kill to have, and I think my offer (or something roughly similar to it) is the most Vegas would be willing to give up before it starts getting into "okay, Eichel is good, but is it worth the damage we're doing to our team at this point?" This trade, of course, means having one of the best top-6s in the league, but would be taking a big leap of faith with trusting Elvenes and Krebs to step up on the third line and Hague to step up where Martinez once was. This is the sort of thing I could both see working fantastically for Vegas and backfiring completely depending on how those young players do. Ultimately, if I'm GMKM, I'm probably looking at other, less-risky options to improve an already great team like, IDK, Henrique, but I could see the argument behind doing this as well.
I think that's a fair offer. You could play around with the value by swapping one of the 1sts for a 2nd, Glass for Krebs, Stephenson for Smith, etc. But I think that's a reasonable starting point that might get the job done.
Eh, no worries - that being said, even if we weren't exempt, our protection list would pretty much be a no-brainer - Marche/Karlsson/Smith/Patch/Stone, then Tuch/Stephenson or Eichel/Roy depending on when this hypothetical trade happens, then Pietro/Theo/McNabb on D, pick a goalie and pay Seattle to not take the other one. I don't imagine we'd gain much cap space unless we were willing to lose one of Lehner/Fleury in the expansion draft.
