Who wantd to play in Winnipeg? Not many players, so where was Chevy going to find another goalie of Hellebuyck's caliber to sign? They really could not havr spent that money any better. There's no way WPG is going to attract the type of talent Vegas can via FA, so csnvt even compare
I would add thsg VG did have elite goaltending, just not an elite goalie per se. Plus, WPG needs to make the playoffs in the first place, so having Hellebuyck at least helps them with that.

Sokolov, JBBD are probably long gone,
not sure why PHI would even want Joseph, take a look at their roster and tell me bottom 6 winger making 2-3mil is something they lack? And the return they get for taking a player for the next 3 yrs that they dont even want, is a guy currently free on waivers (of which they have a high pecking order)?

Every year we hear proclamations that a guy won't fall very far and every year there are surprises. I'm no longer going to make those assumptions... Actually I probably will but I shouldn't, lol.
That said, I don't really see the need for Colorado and very much agree that a team like SJ should be all over this. Their defense is severely lacking.

Blues don’t need depth. Virtually 0 use for Jost and or Comrie. Moving from Parayko to Jokiharju would be a nuclear disaster as well. Highly doubt the Blues really have any interest in moving Parayko at this point although chart lovers seem to beleive he’s useless. Maybe revisit next off-season if 2 of Faulk, Krug or Leddy are moved and they decide to go scorched earth with the d men.</div></div>
DENNIS system is spot on here. Philly and St. Louis share a beer afterwards too.

Deadline Implosion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>I’m not trying to advocate Vancouver should do this. But I think you vastly underrate what Buchnevich provides versus Boeser. Personally I think it’s pretty fair value for Buch and I say that while being very high on Willander.</div></div>
That's fair re: my evaluation of Buch. But in a trade proposal, context does matter and the Canucks issue isn't a wing issue. Their biggest issue is a defence issue. So even if the straight value is accurate (which I disagree with based on the value of puck-moving RHD), based on organizational holes and needs in Van (e.g. defence, cheap/efficient talent, young players making a difference), I think the value Willander holds to the Canucks is greater than the value they would get back in Buchnevich. Value is a relative thing. Buch just doesn't really represent significant value to the Canucks given their context, and I think for most teams the only way they move a young puck-moving RHD for a player like Buch is if they are looking for that last piece to push them over the top.

Comparing Zegras to other RFA Trades w 4 YRs of Control
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>I don’t really think ANA needs a center tbh. They’re pretty loaded up there with Carlsson and Mactavish. They direly need defensive help though and scoring wingers.
They have some good options at defense but they all seem to be more of puck movers in Drysdale, Mintyukov and Zellweger. Not entirely familiar with the depth of their prospect pool. I’m also very unsure of why Anaheim even would want to bridge Zegras. They don’t need to save the cap space right now, may as well front load it if they’re concerned with what type of player he projects to be.</div></div>
I am purely speculating here because there is virtually no information on this, but I think Zegras was the one pushing for a bridge. Best contract he could sign now is an 8x8, but if he takes $6M over the next three years and proves himself a star producer, with the cap going up, could be looking at a 8x10+
Although I think there is also some truth to Verbeek being skeptical to sign him for 8 years with a lot of question marks still on him. If that is the case, then I really dont understand it from the Ducks perspective but we may never know for sure

What The Nylander Trade Looks like all finalized
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Maximus_Domi</b></div><div>Weird that a team that finished 17th in goals and 22nd in PPG thinks that Nylander would make their team worse? Neighbours and Parayko must be better than I thought.</div></div>
Our team defense sucks so trading our best defender for another winger makes little sense for us. Plus Nylander is going to want a 9 mil plus extension which we can't afford and don't really need more wingers. Our best prospects are wingers so we need to focus on adding defensive prospects/young defenders. Now without Parayko we need to find a replacement for him while also adding another top 4 defensemen. Again it doesn't make sense from a roster wise sense or a cap wise. The blues would be better served trading Neighbors and a 1st for a defensemen rather than Nylander or just continuing the rebuild/retool by getting high picks and trading our vets for more picks

To be fair only the top 15-20 players of every draft really make an impact in the first 3 years, most prospects take 3-5 years just to make the NHL and 5-7 to be impact players. To be fair 5-7 years from your draft year is your age 22 or 23 season!

Nemec vs Reinbacher
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>My main concern with Nemec in New Jersey is he won’t get PP time. I can’t get a clear comp for what I think he’ll be. I think he’s more gifted than Reinbacher, I just don’t think he’ll be able to show it the same way.
Reinbacher reminds me of a more physical lower defensive IQ Pietrangelo. I just think a guy like that in Montreal who has a pretty lackluster defense and a high powered offense is going to get a ton of opportunity quickly. I guess Seider (maybe to a lesser degree) is the type of an early impact I see Reinbacher having. A guy who can QB a PP and who likely will, but that isn’t his main strength.
None of this is a slight on either player. They both will be top 4/top pairing guys I just don’t see a world as long as Hughes and Hamilton are in NJD where Nemec can have the impact Reinbacher can</div></div>
I agree, I think judging this early is tough no matter what prospects you are talking about. I also think that the comments are going to be biased based not on fanbase alliance but on OD vs DD. Nemec has pure offensive skill and can skate extremely well, Reinbacher is a bit slower and plays a really smart positional game. Trying to compare who will be better is like trying to compare who was better between Subban and Weber, different styles but both still highly skilled D men in their own rights.

StL responds to Alleged Kapanen aggravated DUI
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>Kuznetsov has never really been a rock in the dzone either. Issue with Kuznetsov is that Washington can’t really throw in the towel, we have good center depth already, and to make cap work there are a lot of hoops to jump through. I haven’t done the math, but Kuznetsov is 7. Something, Kap is 3.2. We’re very limited in cap space as is Washington. Kuz has an additional year as well. Only way it really works is if it’s a Hayes situation and Scandella goes back the other way.
Then we need to look at the benefits as does Washington. But I’ll leave Washington out because they’d almost assuredly need a Neighbors/Bolduc someone close with room to grow considering I don’t foresee them wanting to burn it down with Ovi still there. Kuznetsov is still a great offensive weapon. But, the Blues have had alot of issues in terms of compete level or I guess expectations of what it is to be a pro off the ice (this is coming from a few of the end of the season pressers) and also coming together as a team (also from pressers). I think it’s why you saw them target a guy like Hayes who’s always been a character type of guy, and Sundqvist who is pretty beloved here. I’m not sure Kuznetsov helps with what our issues were last year as a team turning a new page</div></div>
You bring up a good point about his character. I did not consider that.
I’m not sure I’d want this to happen.
But with 2 years you can probs get Washington to retain a million? I dunno how their owners feel about that. Assume they do.
I’m thinking something like also dump Scandella and then send some value for Washington.
I’m not sure what Washington would be able to even ask for after how Kevin hayes was dealt. It wouldn’t be some gigantic value going back their way, but I feel Kuznetsov and his contract/age in this cap climate in a vacuum is worth more than nothing. I think he has value. Just not much.
I mean to take scandella for the year and retain 1 mil on Kuznetsov - maybe that costs stl a bit?
I think from STL’s perspective, If this extremely unlikely event occured, they’d be fairly risk free and stacked for about 2 years with both hayes and kuznetsov behind Thomas. After that they could take any next option without any sunk cost feelings. Plus injuries happen.
Idk. I really like how the team is built but I’d really like one more center if possible. I’m down with alexandrov getting as much exposure as he can get, but I’d rather schenn on the wing and somebody else centering him. Maybe the Buchnevich at center experiment can continue. I’m okay with that. I don’t hate schenn, just rather him be an option, not the default.

The problem is going to be with his role. He wouldn't be 1st LW with the Pens. Guentzel is (and will likely be resigned). So while your value is close (I also think it is too much), it would be unnecessary for the Pens to make that move.
