Your career looking short lived, can’t sell that low on laine, better off just trying to shine him up til deadline, and retain to get a better package.

Honestly just didn't care about the caps coming back(aside from Anderson, I think he could get flipped for assets at 50% retention). No matter what I put there for trade ppl will complain so I concentrated more on the players leaving and the roster outlook as result.

It's just time to move on for both sides I think...he hasn't played a full season in 3+ years for us and we need an actual player in the lineup.

Just about better running out the clock on him, 2 years and 8.7 off the books, better than token cap dumps and a late first. Columbus has been able to do all right in the free agency game, so cap means something. I possibly offer him up to Utah, something similar to how Vegas ended up with smith and marchessault, as long as it means minimal cap back? Just think the token first doesnt make up for the lost value in turning a 3 oa pick into a 2oa pick plus, to random cap dumps and token first.

depends on your definition
Whom they sign have seemed to struggled a lot
Those they acquired seem to leave a lot.

we dont want Laiine anyways with his Drouin like issues its stupid to think in MTL he could survive.
He'd end up sitting out the whole season with mental health issues this time.
Laine's value flew out the window the minute that happened and he's yet to show that his decline is over.
At this point i think you could move Anderson without much more then RS of 2m
While Laine in order to get someone interested you'd need 4-5m retained and even then unless its a small hockey market like FLA who relies a lot on tourists
Then i just dont see it working as he doesnt like passionate fanbases it stresses him out so in FLA the NHL is behind Football,Basketball , and Baseball that i know for sure and likely Soccer too.
Its a very small market but they'd need Laine at 50% RS x 2 to even make the gamble worth it

Texier career best is just barely above Dvoraks worst for Context.
Anderson is healthy and shows up playing well under the pressure
He blocks too many shots and his hands have taken a beating
He needs to work on that but his Physicality ,Effort and Leadership is valued by Marty St louis since day 1 who put him on first line beside Suzuki and a struggling Caufield.
Suzuki had 20 in 21 games , Anderson had 16 in 21 games and Caufield had 16 goals and 25 points in 21 games.
Anderson may not always get a point for it but he gets the puck in deep in the OZ an area all our forwards but Dach and Slafkovsky struggle with

All i see is capdumps involved everywhere

Elvis probably isn’t high on our list, but wouldn’t rule it out.

Would be interested in Chinahkov if available.

With the injury Laine has, and adding Teixer to the deals for WIN's 1st, Anderson, Dvorak and VAN's 3rd.. I mean.. YES..

Even if Laine is injured for the whole season, he goes to the LITR and we get Anderson AND Dvorak out of MTL for a late 1st and a 3rd. I mean.. Why not. If MTL is on Laine's no trade list, Hugues can either convince him otherwise or convince him to lift anyways and they promise to deal him once they have confirmation he's fully healed from injuries to a team he has in mind.

A healthy Laine is worth more than a late 1st, so Hugues would be seen one hell of a GM if this type of deal is done.

Interesting Laine Trade. I can't shake away the felling of Anderson's return to CLB is unrealistic with his m-ntc, but it is an interesting idea since money-in money-out evens out.

Given how Anderson felt about Columbus on the way out, I'd almost guarantee we're on his NTL. Regardless, Anderson coming back should be a nonstarter for Columbus, we'll need the cap space in 2 years when Fantilli and Jiricek are up and the team's window is theoretically opening.

...

Overall, this is a short-sighted move that makes the team worse now and in the future. I don't know why Columbus would entertain it. Just keep Laine, hope for a rebound, and you're dead-set on moving him, trade him at TDL next year half-retained for a similar package without the cap dumps.

And the cherry on top: Elvis doesn't have that kind of value. We'd be lucky to retain half on him and get a single 3rd.

And the whipped cream: moving Laine because we "need an actual player in the lineup" and immediately signing Kylington to a 3-year deal is cruel, hypocritical irony.

If you want to trade Laine at the next TDL because he didn't rebound, you will have to retain 50% of his salary and won't get anythimg in return, just lile Johansen.

That's 1000% fine, and I don't think other teams' fans understand that we're fine with that. Retaining $4.35M against the cap (and about $4M in real money) for half a season is preferable to retaining even $2M against the cap (and a little more in real money, his salary is $9.1M) over two seasons, for both Columbus and an acquiring team.

He's not a washed-up has-been, he's a 26-year-old winger coming off a season where he took two dirty hits that ultimately knocked him out for the season. It's more likely he comes back and performs at least acceptably than not.

We could trade him for peanuts now, or trade him for peanuts later. His value will likely increase by TDL 2025-26 by nature of now teams can get him at 50% retained. Why not keep him and see if we can trade him for...not peanuts? You know?
