Honestly, I would be open to pay that price.

And then you draft another RHD in this year's draft.

Brother - Zegras is not Eichel and Eichel got a top 10 protected first, Krebs, Tuch and a 2nd round pick.

now you are gettin the equivalent of 3 first round pick and a depth players whose cap will have no impact on the ducks.

it starts with your 2024 1st I would think, gotta imagine they want quality over quantity. I'd say Habs 24 1st + Roy/Guhle would be a starting point.

edit; let me be clear I don't value Z high at all just basing off ducks fans on here

I know Verbeek said he wants a RHD and RH top 6 forward, Anaheim is getting one of those things here, not both. Problem is that they likely draft a RHD and Zegras is already a RH top 6 forward.

I'd happily make this deal but it only happens if Verbeek really doesn't think Zegras is what Anaheim needs to contend long term

Habs aren't giving up 5th overall for Zegras. They weren't willing to do that for Cutter, they won't do it for Zegras and thinking it would need Guhle on top of a top 5 pick is way out of the ball park

I agree completely, I'm just saying that may be their asking price and if thats it, habs should steer clear from that until his value decreases after potentially another injury heavy season

Fair (we don't want to either ahahah) - we can always keep Anderson - we got 20M$ in cap space and 30M$ next year.

I don’t think Zegras has a ton of value. We’re not talking about a guy who will bring back 10 assets.

I think he could be had for the top 10 pick we have this year (depending where it lands after the lottery), and a solid B prospect (Beck).

Keep in mind, Zegras has one dimension to his game: offence. He doesn’t win draws, he doesn’t play physical, he won’t kill penalties, he can’t win faceoffs…

Our first (depending where it ends up) and maybe Beck.

Here we go again beating on the dead horse again.

Montreal does not have the proper prospects or players that Anaheim needs without creating hole on the Habs. Reinbacher/Mailoux is the only ones that fill the need of RHD and Montreal doesn't want to trade them.

Both are trying to improve, not try to shed cap(other than trying to cap dump Anderson Gallagher/Dvorak which is going to fail every time).

No Zegras to Montreal trades. Unless SOMEHOW another team is involved.

Enough with this delusion. The Ducks are not getting a top 5 pick for a complementary player on a winning team. Zegras is fun to watch play hockey, but he's not the type of player you build your team around.

The best place for a guy like Zegras would be Utah. He'd bring people out of their seats, and that's exactly what you want hitting a new market. Imagine Zegras, Cooley and Keller playing open hockey at the beginning of next year. It would be a joy. Of course, it wouldn't work in the playoffs, but the first half of the season would be must-watch hockey in Utah.

I don’t get why this is still happening. ANA has zero reason to move Zegras unless they land another LHC in the draft that’s NHL ready. There’s an 11.5% chance of that happening.

Even if it did, pass on this

The delusion is that he’s getting traded. The reason the ask is high is because it makes absolutely zero sense for ANA to move him. The return would have to make it impossible to say no

Nor does he have a need for an at the time unknown to hockey neck surgery, or a looming NMC clause about to kick in which would prevent him from being waived if the surgery hadn't been a success. Plus he demanded out of Buffalo.

Context is key when discussing value, Buffalo didn't have leverage, Anaheim does. We don't give a crap about how many first round equivalent pieces you're offering, it takes an impact piece to pry Zegras loose.

Yes, I agree with your first sentence, enough of this, we're not reading Zegras for spare parts, Habs fans get over it already.

The coterie of half a dozen (or so) enthusiastic Ducks fans on CF have been consistent in their formulations for a Zegras trade, and one definitely non-Anaheim fan has hit one of these three nails on the head in this discussion (I'll acknowledge him later). Those three packages are: (1) Slafkovsky; (2) Reinbacher and your own 2025 second; and (3) your own 2024 first plus a good forward prospect like Beck, Mesar or Roy. And this is with the understanding that (A) Zegras isn't on the block now, and (B) he would only be on the market if the offer were outstanding or we hit the Celebrini jackpot.

Bingo. And you've described exactly why Cole Caufield is an almost perfect comparable for him.

Caufield, first 180 games: 72 goals, 57 assists = 129 points, -39
Zegras, first 180 games*: 49 goals, 90 assists = 139 points, -39 {* = pre-injury/end of last season}

Caufield, career (205 games): 81 goals, 68 assists = 149 points, -39, $7.85 million AAV
Zegras, career (211 games): 55 goals, 99 assists = 154 points, -40, $5.75 million AAV

I'm not even going to ask for credit on the 11 games at the start of this season that Zegras played with an injury so severe that he was able to score only one goal and one assist and eventually landed him on the LTIR list for 6 weeks, or the one game he played only three shifts before breaking his ankle.

Ah, yes, the "all first-round draft picks are equal" fallacy in disguise.

To begin with, the Calgary 2025 first IS a top-ten protected pick and could end up being in the bottom quarter of the round (Florida's first).

Second, if you think that Josh Anderson at this stage in his career is comparable to Alex Tuch at the time that he was included in the Eichel trade, then there is really something wrong with you. Josh Anderson isn't a positive inclusion in a trade offer, he's a detraction from it.

Third, Mailloux and those two firsts don't have anywhere near the quality of your 2024 first, or David Reinbacher. The package offered is quantity, not quality. We would ask for the same type of package that would persuade Montreal to part with Cole Caufield.

I can't see there being any possibility of Montreal being able to dump Anderson's full contract on any team without having to pay to do so as proposed here.
