Necas to MTL

Description
The CH could at least contend for the playoffs with this (uninjured) roster. I kept Anderson, even though he should be exchanged to the Guangdong Tigers, to give him a last chance. 2025-2026 should be interesting, with Lindstrom potentially on the team.

Don’t trade a pick that could be top 10. The CGY pick is way more valuable than people think.

If it's a top 10 pick then Calgary keeps it and you get Florida's 1st instead.

No if FLO choke next year and CGY have a bad season as ecpected. FLO will have a big offseason with a lot of big decisions. Having 3 guys at 10M make it difficult (Tkachuk, Barkov and Bobrovsky). They will clearly lose some good players and their prospect pool is slim.
There is a world where MTL pick 2 times in the top 10 nect year.

That is true if CGY receive FLO 2025. However, If FLO miss the playoffs, FLO transfer their 2026 1st pick to CGY. In that case, MTL receive CGY 2025 1st round pick (potential top 10) unless it is 1st overall. If it’s 1st overall MTL receive the best pick between FLO 2026 or CGY 2026.

We all know that, but not because they will lose Montour they will become a bottom team .. look at Boston, they lost both Bergeron & Krejci in one offseason and they are still up there in the standings. Anyway, the trade above is unrealistic, CAR won’t trade Necas for bottom pairing dman & 1st round picks (and MTL won’t offer two 1st round picks for Necas either)

Overpay for Necas, but also not the pieces that would make Carolina want to trade Necas.

A 3rd party that gives us a cost controlled player top 6 for that package would have to be involved. Canes aren’t looking to sell Necas for futures

Guys, Florida will not miss the playoffs next year squinty smile
I mean sure, everyone starts at 0 in October and 'anything can happen', but for FLA to miss the playoffs TB, TOR, DET would all have to be better than they them. Boston will be.

I was mentally prepared to blast that CHI trade. But, actually, I would probably do something like that. Not sure CHI would give up a 4th for him, but I don't think a late round pick would be out of the question.

Wow, this is an extreme overpay. I am not willing to give up more than a 1st (in the 6-10 range, maybe) + 3rd for Necas. Why is everyone so out of their minds on Necas, the guy had 1 season above 60 points and all of a sudden he is equal to Eichel level value?! Look at his career as a whole, 36, 41, 40, 71, 55 points. Now compare that to the first 5 seasons of Domi's career, 52, 38, 45, 72, 44. The totals are almost identical. Now ask yourself, would you have given up this much for Domi at 25? As a pending RFA, with arbitration rights who is going to ask for 7 mil on a 1 year deal to get to FA, I sure as hell wouldn't offer this much if he was signed to 8 years at 5 mil, he is a career 55 point per season guy this far. Nothing in his career so far indicates that the 70+ point season is going to be his norm. In fact everything, including the fact that he has regressed to 55 points this season, indicates that 55 points is his norm. He is a good player, entering his prime but nothing so far indicates that he is more than a middle 6 winger.

On one hand I don't think you've got enough guaranteed value here. On the other, I don't think I'd be trading that Calgary pick before the season even starts. Calgary could be awful next year.

If Necas is signing that deal, Canes just keep him. Whilst the 2 1sts would be intriguing pieces, depth D prospects are of little interest. And the only way a futures trade would work is if a 3rd team enters the mix with something going to the Canes for those assets.

Everybody was saying the same thing about FLO 1st pick last year (Chiarot trade). They made the playoffs by 2 points. There is so much uncertainty when you trade a 1st pick a year in advance. Tkachuk and/or Barkov could suffer a season-ending injury, who knows. The point is that don’t give a 1st pick a year in advance. So much can happen. There were no chance that SJ would miss the playoffs badly when they acquired Karlsson from OTT. It still gave OTT the 3rd overall pick in Stutzle. Same for Duchene/Byram and Ottawa.

It is not only Montour. They will possibly lose Reinhart and a bunch of great depth players (Forwards and D). The point is that you don’t trade a 1st pick a year in advance. Anything can happen and you don’t want a Stutzle/Karlsson or a Byram/Duchene situation.

I wouldn’t trade that pick anyway, I’m with you on that. I just think the chance are very slim, but because there’s is a chance, I would not trade that pick

No, I’m saying Evans wouldn’t be dealt if a 2nd round pick was not coming. Not hard to understand, there’s a price for players, and 99.9% of the time GMs don’t pay for what the other team wants for their players

I highly doubt Hughes is asking for or expects to get a 2nd for Evans. That seems like a fans pipe dream. But, I guess you probably know MTL's intentions better than I.

I know MTL don’t have a lot of centers
I know Jake Evans is extremely appreciated by his teammates and management
MTL have like 30+ picks in the next 3 drafts
Why would they trade one of their guy for a 3rd round pick ?

I mean... From an outside perspective, he looks someone who is expendable, on that team, and more than likely isn't going to be there when they are competitive. They will likely need to create roster space next season and beyond to start giving their young C prospects an opportunity to integrate into the NHL lineup. With the recent acquisitions of Dach and Newhook, along with MTL's slew of C prospects, guys like him inevitably end up on the outside looking in. I can almost guarantee the front office will be looking at it in a similar way. They almost certainly have their future bottom 6 C's in the system right now.

Idk. I guess I could be way off base, but usually guys like him, on rebuilding teams, end up moving on as the younger guys move up the ladder, and MTL is about ready to make that sort of move.

Who’s the young Centers ? Owen Beck & Oliver Kapanen are the only prospects with a true shot at the NHL level. Owen Beck will be playing in MTL or Laval next year but he is Dvorak replacement. Oliver Kapanen will play in the SHL next year before joining the Laval Rocket in 2025-2026. Jake Evans probably sign an extension
