Interesting pieces if you want Buch this summer

Description
These are not full packages or trade proposals. They're a list of things that could interest the Blues in a deal for Buch, retained or not. And yes, I'm fully aware a handful of these guys wouldn't be considered as Buch bait. Not really relevant... this is what the Blues would want, not what they think you'd give up willingly. I did leave another handful of young Dmen off the list, but a few real peaches made the cut. Because I said so.

I definitely could have included other teams, but skipped them for various reasons. If you want your team added to the list, just holler and I'll add them. Maybe. Depends on the team.

He'd be able to sign an extension this offseason, and if traded in the offseason, I can see it coming with an extension attached already. That will drive that price up anyway

Gotta give up quality to get quality. And Blues want quality pieces in return

They’ll get a good return if they move Buch but it won’t include a prospect like Willander

Don't see the red Wings having interest in Buch. He doesn't fit our timeline. He's going to want a big extension that we likely can't afford. We also have other pressing needs to address this offseason.

Sometimes, man, you ask for something they shouldn't trade and they actually say yes. Far stranger things have happened, and I also never said there couldn't be add-ons to make weight. smile

I hear ya, but there have been a ton of DET Buch AGMs on here, and gosh, you have so so many nice things laying around. It would have been rude to leave you off.

As for timelines, you guys are a borderline playoff team of some danger now. Adding Buch lifts you up a level. "Timelines" are not a immobile thing.

What exactly is the Red Wings timeline? If you're shooting for younger, you aren't going to get near the impact of a player pushing you 2-3 years out versus trying to be competitive next year. In all reality, i'm curious, because it seems about time or past time that they should be competitive given where they've been.

Id give up any of those pieces from BUF for Buch but I doubt he waives to go to buffalo and signs an extension, cause thats the only way its worth it for the Sabres.

You're getting none of Morrow, Nikishin, or Necas for a rental Buch! Should have dealt him before the deadline if you wanted that kind of return. Now, you're looking at a package probably similar to Guentzel, since that is the natural comparable

We like our nice things and I agree, Buch would be a great add. Trust me, I would love to have him on our team. Just paying the price to acquire him would be too much for where we are. Prospects are great, but into they can show they can do something, we can't afford to be trading them yet. Everything Yzerman has done, at least in my mind, tells me that he wants to build this team from the ground up through the draft while trying to build a winning culture on the way. Considering Debrincat is the only significant player he has added through trade, I don't see us trading for 29 year old Buch. If the acquisition price was cheap enough, say Berggren, 2nd Round Pick and Albert Johansson, I would be all over it but he likely isn't that cheap.

No, it's not a natural comp at all, and I'm kinda over explaining how that is very obviously so.

And again, I'm not making a list of what you would give up. I'm making a list of what the Blues would want. These are not the same thing.

Don't understand why you say it's past time? Yzerman took over in 2019 with an empty prospect cupboard and a pile of bad contracts to go along with nothing of value to trade on the roster for the most part. It takes a long time to draft and develop players and we haven't had any lottery luck to help us along the way. We went from the absolute worst team in the league at the end of 2020 season to a team battling for a playoff spot in 2024. I feel like that turnaround time is pretty quick considering teams that do full tear down rebuilds.

I think (or hope) Flyers ain't interested of him. Doesn't fit the time line, so they shouldn't be paying young assets/picks for him. He'd be like 32 when Flyers should be competitive.

I guess you’re right on that. I guess I look at it as 16-17 as the downfall, you would have hoped they’re moreso ready to start competing again as early as next season. And they showed some flash of that this season.

I would moreso think they’re ready to turn the corner at this stage and shouldn’t be in the asset accumulation phase especially with hitting on Larkin and Seider

If this team started the tear-down at 16-17, this team would be vastly different.
They started when Yzerman came in.

Wouldn’t mind Woo, Hoglander, or Podkolzin from VAN. If Buch gets moved he’s probably Eastern conference bound. I can see Carolina going after him if Guentzel leaves and DET being desperate for star studded offense.

From a Canucks fan perspective, Woo can definitely be included as an add on to the end of the package. He obviously wouldn’t be a main piece but he doesn’t seem to be in our plans so if the Blues want him it makes sense to include him

Podkolzin could definitely be included as well, although at this point he’s not looking like much more than a bottom 6 player. Hopefully he can show some of the offensive ability he had in his rookie season next year.

Hoglander though almost definitely won’t be moved. He’s top 10 in the league in 5v5 goals and has 200+ less minutes than all of the others in the top 10 (except Marchessault who he is 178 minutes behind). That combined with his cheap salary for next season + chemistry with Pettersson means he’s probably among the least likely Canucks to be moved in a trade

I think the best offer the Canucks could do is our 2025 1st + D Petey/Raty/Podkolzin + a mid round pick + Woo. Mikheyev can be included for cap reasons if the Blues are interested in bringing a middle 6 winger back as well but wouldn’t be necessary. If another team beats that offer or the Blues prefer pieces from another team then the Canucks are likely out (they may even be out if it’s D Petey as it was reported management didn’t want to move him at the deadline)

Detroit is desperate for the other end of the ice. Offense hasn’t been the issue.

First of all, read the description. Secondly, Buch would instantly your best winger and second best forward walking in the door. He's a complete top line player.
