Couple things.

I personally want nothing to do with that markstrom trade. My god that would be asinine for a young team to move all that for a 34 year old goalie.

The Ottawa trade I don’t hate right away. But after further glance 2 big things. I don’t see us moving jenner and gudbranson in one trade. The team dads are beloved by the lockerroom and hold the team accountable. Second point is batherson and chychrun are kinda redundant. Batherson js a nice middle 6 winger which we have a good amount of. And chychrun only having one year left is a rental and probably won’t resign with us. (Plus mateychuk may be ready for the nhl next season)

More likely provorov is moved at the draft, a vet is signed in the off season and mateychuk pushes for a spot competing with Jake bean for the 5th slot on the third pair.

I will give you credit for thinking outside the box but I wouldn’t advise either trade.

Don’t think it makes sense for the jackets to trade for markstrom. He’s 34 and only has 2 years left on his deal. Also don’t like the lindholm signing. He doesn’t fit in with the jackets timeline and they could be in a position to take lindstrom in the draft. With lindstrom they would already have fantilli, sillinger, Voronkov, and kuraly down the middle so lindholm wouldn’t be necessary

Agreed on all accounts. I’m hoping bean isn’t back with the jackets next year however

I feel like im in the minority of our fanbase, but i dont mind Bean as the 3LD. I think hes better than he gets credit for and provides pretty solid depth.

Mike Sullivan? The coach who famously does not play young players? To coach a very young, still rebuilding team? Whose extension with Pittsburgh hasn't even kicked in yet? That Mike Sullivan?

Too much for Lindholm.

Columbus declines both trades. Calgary declines the second one as well.

You're not alone in that regard, but that's also what makes him expendable.

Also, while I'm here - we need more steady vets, not less, so despite my really liking Chychrun that deal is IMO a nonstarter. And while I believe Lindholm could get that contract I don't think it should be with us.

Not gonna lie, I’ve loved his play this year. He’s much improved defensively and his puck moving skills are underrated. He and gudbranson have found some chemistry and typically play really well. (Of course they have screw ups, they are third pair guys) but compared to the top dogs of Severson and provorov he tends to be a tad less prone to bone headed errors.

Provorov has got to go tho. I loved him (draft and elc era, or pre controversy) and thought he could be a top defender. He just does too much. Simple plays go to die on his stick and he makes too many bone headed errors. He gets too much hate for his on ice play but some is warranted. Should still be able to get a first based on production and his rush defense. (In zone/ off puck d needs some work).

He's a Torts disciple, so it almost makes a tiny amount of pseudo-sense.

The Ottawa trade is terrible.

Batherson>>Boone

And I dont think the rest of the trade gets you Cychrun. Guddy doesnt move the needle and I dont think the Sens would want him back Ceulemans is a nice prospect but the fact that the 1st is in '26 makes the whole thing an easy no. I'd just like to remind you that Chychrun was dealt for a 1st (12OA) and two 2nds. He has less term on his deal but i would assume this deal would happen with an extension in place which would mitigate the term issue. Package just isnt even close but also to be clear the addition to Jenner for Batherson would need to be significant from the Jackets side. There's no way Ottawa even listens to this for both of them.

the bigger issue i see with Bean is his QO is like 2.8mil and i cant see us doing that. So he likely wont be qualified and we will need him to agree to a contract with a pay cut.

But what works in our favor is: I don't see any team doing that. He's been a decent 3LD, but that's not the kind of player you pay nearly $3M for. He either 1) gets extended at something like 2x$1.5M, 2) gets his rights traded to a team that's willing to sign him to a 2x$1.5M, or 3) goes unqualified and gets signed in free agency at something like 2x$1.5M, maybe 1x$2M. I think he at least has an NHL job with us, so he'd likely be open to extending.
