Description
Seeing WAY too many 1st Barron, Harris, Struble for Necas deals. This is the kind of deal it will take to get Necas. Futures aren't going to interest Carolina. He's the better player between him and Caufield, hence the pick. If the Canadiens aren't willing to part with a player like this, there's not going to be a deal here

Necas better than Caufield... lmao. They have close to equal stats - one of them plays for a top team and one plays for a Celebrini contender

As I do agree Caufield and Necas have close value, I don’t see why Necas has more value. Caufield has better numbers in his first 3 seasons and has a higher potential. He is younger and signed long term. He is a goal scorer, and GM tend to prefer that to playmakers. Even if Necas can play C, he isn’t very good there. Only positive for Necas is that he is better defensively, but he isn’t very good there and has only slightly better stats. Also, Caufield has improved a lot in this department.

So the second is going the wrong way, and I’m not a Caufield fan. For me, Barron, Winnipeg’s first, Calgary’s first and a second would be fair value. Would I do it? No. But it’s fair value. Same thing for Necas. Barron, Winnipeg’s first and a second or two is fair. Would Carolina do it? No. Quality over quantity. But you can’t really say it’s scrap. Just say that Necas wouldn’t be moved for quantity, that an elite piece has to be included

Jarvis would require Suzuki. Jarvis is younger and outproducing Caufield. Necas and Caufield have comparable stats this year, and Necas dominates historically.

It's scrap. A late 1st, a borderline AHLer, and a 2nd isn't value for Necas. Would you take this years Canes 1st, Suzuki, and a 2nd for Caufield? No. Rightfully so. Necas is more valuable as the natural centerman. More valuable position, plus he's coming off a 70 point season, something Caufield has never done and isn't even on pace for this year

One of them gets top line minutes at the other doesn't AND Necas plays in a system that strangles offensive talent. Under any other coach, he's a 90-100 point guy

Necas has more value than Caufield, considerably too imo. Necas is the much more complete player. Better defensively, better skater, better hands. Caufield has the better shot, which is important, but with comparable stats this year, Necas dominating before this year, and Necas being a natural center (more valuable position) Montreal would need to add. This isn't a suggestion either, I think Caufield is one of the most overrated players in the NHL. But this is the kind of package it would take for Montreal to get Necas. Not a late 1st and scraps

For an poster who constantly tells people about how great every canes player and prospect are, he isn’t good at seeing what either of those two bring to the team. Although I would bet if anyone posted those two trades, we would see posts about how both are near untouchable.

As a devils fan I fully support Carolina getting rid of fast and Staal. Send them our way preferably. Also please give Chris Tierney lots and lots of ice time.

Fast, purely for the cap space. Staal is a withered husk of his former self. He's dropped off a cliff this year, and Kotkaniemi already does everything he is needed to but win faceoffs. Send him somewhere else while he has value for his name, and move forward with Aho as the captain

Wow, you didn’t read anything I said lol. Just reread that paragraph. Also, the best comparison for Barron’s value is Nadeau, not Suzuki. I said above that Calgary’s first, Winnipeg’s first, a second and Barron for Caufield would be fair value. So Nadeau, Canes 2024 and 2025 first and a second for Caufield is fair. I wouldn’t do it, and I explained why above, but it’s not crap at all.

When comparing them at the same age, Caufield has a better production. Necas has a 70 pts season in his fourth season, Caufield will probably score 70 pts next year. And Necas is ass at C, if not, they wouldn’t have putted KK and Kusnetsov at 2c before him. He is just like Newhook. So the more valuable position argument isn’t true.

Again, if you just read (you know, the thing thing you learn in elementary school), you’ll see why Necas for Barron, Winnipeg’s first and a second isn’t scrap, and why Carolina wouldn’t do it

Oh and btw, Caufield is struggling offensively this season, but yet, he has better production then Necas…

Top line minutes if anything is just further proving my point, because then Caufield plays against better competition. One could argue playing with Svech and Kuzy is also better than playing with Suzuki and Slaf so he could have better linemates AND easier competition lmao. He's not better than Caufield who's also coming off a shoulder injury, and still could get 25 goals while also improving his all around game

Why would the habs do that. They get the older player who was a signifigantly worse player at the age caufield is currently and caufield is signed to a excellent contract

What? I love Svech, Suzuki is HANDS DOWN better. Kuznetsov has only been there 10 games, before that it was Kotkaniemi. You want to tell me KK's better than Slafkovsky? I am the biggest KK supporter on this website, but even I cannot defend that. Necas has the speed, size, defense, and the fact he's a center. Carolina get someone that can score at will, Montreal get bigger and faster

How is Necas significantly worse when he has better career totals and a comparable total this season? Caufield's never hit 60 points, this would be a huge risk by Carolina. Necas has now proven in 3 seasons he can hold a 60+ point pace, hitting 70 already once.

I think at the moment the two players are very similar value wise but I think Caufield has a higher ceiling nd is already signed long term. I would assume that Montreal would decline.

I guess a cure to addressing biased homerific proposals is to make one as well.

Without getting into the incomplete view of Caufield, its kind of strange how you overrate Necas and underrate Fast, Drury and Staal, Like, its kind of distracting that Carolina's competitive advantage has been basically dismantled with every other trade in this Armchair-GM.
