Description
Dear Hockey Enthusiasts,
I come before you today with a revised perspective on the potential trade between Brock Faber and Connor Bedard. Upon deeper consideration, I now recognize the undeniable superiority of Connor Bedard, and I humbly apologize for any previous oversight.
To Brock Faber: Brock, your contributions to the game have been commendable, but in the shadow of Connor Bedard’s brilliance, it is clear that he possesses an extraordinary skill set. Your defensive prowess is admirable, but Connor’s offensive flair and hockey IQ elevate him to another level. I apologize for any previous comparison that may have diminished your accomplishments.
To Connor Bedard: Connor, you are a prodigious talent—a beacon of hope for your team and fans alike. Your ability to read the game, create scoring opportunities, and execute with finesse is unmatched. I apologize for not fully acknowledging your exceptional abilities in my initial suggestion. You are, without a doubt, the future of the sport.
To the Fans: To all of you who follow the game with passion and dedication, I appreciate your discerning eyes. Let us collectively celebrate Connor Bedard’s brilliance and recognize that sometimes, even the most seasoned analysts can miss the mark. Connor’s star is rising, and we should revel in the privilege of witnessing his ascent.
In light of this newfound clarity, I retract any notion of a trade involving these two players. Instead, let us eagerly anticipate Connor Bedard’s continued impact on the ice, and may Brock Faber’s contributions find their rightful place in the annals of hockey history.
Sincerely,
A Reformed Hockey Enthusiast 🏒

If you asked 100 knowledgeable hockey fans before the season, 100 would choose Bedard over Faber. If you ask 100 knowledgeable hockey fans now, you would get the same result, so no it’s not any closer now.

Both really. We knew this from Bedard…but Faber has been much better than many expected. Wild got a real keeper there.

Right, I'll agree with that. I've got all the time in the world for anyone who wants to argue Faber for the Calder without using "+ / -". Love him. Sensational defenseman. Absolute stud. Future norris winner. But Bedard came into the league kind of as a one dimensional king who had this insane shot, but the rest of his game was unproven. His playmaking has been miles ahead of where we thought it would be, especially with this supporting cast, and, while not the greatest situationally on defense, he is creating opportunities in the neutral zone and offensive zone with his stick checking, something i never thought I would see from him this year. So while both are playing beyond expectations, what Bedard at 18 offers is something that very few other individual pieces alone in the NHL can offer.

Overall…it’s a really solid rookie class. A good 8-10 stars added to the league this year.

"Not the greatest" is really sugarcoating it. He's terrible defensively. Doesn't change anything about what he's done offensively, or his potential, but let's be for real here.

I could care less about the Calder. Its not an insult to not win the calder in this rookie class? Do I think he deserves it? Sure. Im biased. Would I be upset if Faber or Hughes or whoever else won it? Not particularly. The part that gets annoying is when people start to discredit what Bedard is doing because of his +/- stat on the 2nd worst team in the league. What we've seen from him so far, the sky is the limit. Just gotta get him to not reach into Brendan Smiths shoulder anymore and we should be good to go.

He is not terrible defensively. He loses his man quite a bit on the rush, but once set up in the zone, he's fine in the system that Richardson plays. He has created several goals this season by keeping an active stick in the neutral zone. He is miles ahead of where he was advertised in juniors

I’m sure you Wild fans don’t care, but you are coming across as petty & jealous for tarring down Bedard because you can’t handle that he’s blowing Faber out of the water.

I, for one, wanted so badly for CHI to draft Faber and I've wanted them to trade for him ever since then. They should've snatched him up from LA before MIN had the chance. I don't know how he flew under the radar for so long, but I also didn't know he would be THIS good. That all being said, it has never been a question who was the better or more valuable player. It took 3 years of college for Faber to be what he is now, whereas Bedsy came straight out of his draft as a legitimate 1C on an awful roster and has the potential to be one of the best hockey players of all time. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. MIN would make that trade without a second thought. I'm not sure how you could have ever thought a one for one trade was legit. I don't even recall you ever proposing that or saying so. But I'm glad your mind has changed.

Agreed. He has some learning to do certainly but he is an 18 year old kid playing around 20 minutes a night. Of course he’s going to need to get better, the NHL is the best league in the world.

It was a joke spurred on by the Calder debate. The fact that people on both sides took it seriously is insane to me. The debate is between two fanbases with limited information on the players and use stale like +\- and points to justify their opinion. In reality it’s not a debate, Bedard is better now and will be better over their career.
