Description
MTL draft Catton in 2024, likely stays a year down somewhere (maybe a similar play to what SEA did with Wright) and he comes in strong in 2025-26.

Re resign most of the RFAs, but for the sake of time, I'll sign the top ones

Not sure which is more silly, Crosby choosing MTL, or Crosby playing 2nd fiddle to Nick Suzuki

Why wouldn't he go to MTL? Every reason to go. He's gonna be 38 by that time, Suzuki is gonna outplay him

If he goes anywhere it's to play with MacKinnon imo, but I don't think he goes anywhere

It's becoming a bit salty in PIT. Def nowhere near certain he leaves, but it could happen. Reports tend to point towards either MTL or COL as the team he would go to, so definitely there is realism to Crosby to MTL

Seems like Montreal and Colorado are the only two realistic options.

The sooner we accept that Sidney Crosby isn’t signing with our favorite team, the better.

Unless MTR makes great strides next season, why would he leave one bottom 10 team to go to another at the end of his career? If anything, he will want to go to a top contender to play meaningful hockey to close out his career. Also doubt Suzkuki would be winning 1C position over Crosby even if he played another five years.

Okay a few problems here…
First with the comments, at 38 I’m sure Crosby would be fine with playing 2c especially to a guy like Suzy. He’s in the twilight of his career, still producing and mentoring but passing the torch to a legitimate top center in the league.

Secondly, if Crosby did choose to sign with Montreal why do you think he would demand more than he’s ever made before?

And lastly again with the comments, in 2025-26 Montreal will definitely be looking to compete. Hughes has a plan and I get the vibe the season after next is when sees the last phase of this rebuild.
Side note:I’m not sure Crosby will ever play pro anywhere but Pittsburg, but then again Pitty did hire Dubas…

Why not? A 2nd has what like a 1 in 3 chance of playing a 100 games in the NHL while Harris has already played 115, is still young and on a decent contract. If they could use him in the lineup it’d actually be statistically pretty stupid to not do that deal.

More than a fair share of CGY fans traded for Harris for a higher price than that, “get over it”, like a wise man once said

If they wanted him it would have happened already. They're rebuilding not sending a 2nd for Harris.. isn't happening sorry. Statistically stupid not to? If he's sooo good sounds like Montreal would be statistically stupid for trading him.

Almost as stupid as thinking Crosby would go to Montreal

It’s quite simple actually, Montreal has too many left handed dmen to give them all playing time so it makes sense to deal him even if he is promising, young and on a decent contract…while Calgary on the other hand has space for him making a trade mutually beneficial. And I never said Crosby would go to the Habs, I actually quite clearly stated I didn’t think he’d play anywhere else than Pittsburg.

Brendan Smith has played over 600 NHL games. Now he’s a bit older than Jordan Harris, but statistically speaking it would be stupid for the Habs not to trade a 1st rounder for Brendan Smith’s UFA rights since there’s only a 70% chance a 1st rounder could even get to 100 games, let alone almost 700!!!

No I’m pretty sure it’s your embellishment, but if it makes you feel any better when Brendan Smith was 28…back in 2017 he was dealt for a 2nd and a 3rd.
