What’s Vancouvers obsession with swapping Kuzmenko for Buchnevich?

There’s a lot of reasons why it makes no sense for the Blues.

He's a top-6 Russian forward making a similar amount to Kuzmenko, but because he's good defensively, he's not going to be at odds with the coach. So, really there's a lot for VAN fans to like in that upgrade.

Garland doesn’t come close to get a return of Murphy

Blues decline. Would rather have buch than Kuzmenko so there is no reason for us to make this trade for another offensive winger who is weak on defense

I don’t see the point in the Buch and Kuzmenko swap. The only point in us moving Buchnevich is to get future assets (i.e. picks and prospects) so that makes no sense with acquiring Kuzmenko.

The crazy thing is. I’m not sure there’s a more checking oriented coach in the league than Berube.

Pair that with Buch has a much longer track record of this level of production and there’s 0 reason the Blues consider it.

If they’re selling Buch, it’s not a shakeup move. It’s a tear down.

Unless of course, it happens in the off-season, then it could be a contract thing, whether it's the team or the player wants to move on.

Here OP has it as a 1 for 1, some others posted a 1st+Kuzmenko for Buchnevich but even then I don't think that's what the Blues would be looking for because 1) the fit as you mentioned, they would probably look for a Buch replacement in terms of style 2) they probably look for something that gives them more team control/not having to rush an extension (assuming it's in the off-season) to get and overall getting younger as they retool.

Hawks are content to keep him, regardless of your opinion there is no pressure to move him. Hawks don’t get an offer they like , he stays in the fold.

A replacement wouldn’t necessarily be needed. Buch, Neighbors, Thomas has been working great. Probably what would happen if in season they’d move Saad up off the 3rd with Kyrou and Hayes and bump Schenn up to try and replace Buch.

We have enough NHL players that the focus can’t be to downgrade a little bit for a small return. You pretty much would have to just rip the bandaid off and target a young player you think can evolve their role in the near future, along with numerous futures assets in return that help address our lack to a higher end d pipeline
