Considering the price to dump Campbell, I think there's certainly value enough there that I'd tolerate this deal (I don't think Allen is THE guy and I'm very neutral on Monahan). I think Edmonton might need the full 50% on Allen to afford it under the cap however.

Maybe I am an idiot but i think every team wins here and I love it.

Edmonton gets what they need. Riding a hot streak they get an upgrade in goaltending, a better defenceman, and monahan all while clearing cap. They can even flip Kulak from here, suddenly they're really comfortable with cap space and can run Bouch, Tanev and Ceci on the right side.

Calgary gets their first rounder back which is huge. They can re-tool and not have to worry about losing a lottery pick. They're not forced to do anything and can operate at their own pace. They get stuck with Anderson which sucks but they add a project in Lavoie and a really solid defenceman in Harris who can replace Kylington long term

Montreal gains a first this year as opposed to next, eats a bad deal in Soup but get two decent prospects to do it. Fair price. Not sold on Holloway or Bougault, but whatever - there's potential.

well done

Done for the 50%.

Habs have the space for a minor cap dump should the cap be a problem.

It's definitly a "bite-the-bullet" type deal for everyone.

Inspiration comes to me when I'm bored at work ahahaha.

The question remains wheter the Flames want to deal Tanev to a rival. Anderson can also rebound eventually (he sucks but not THAT much - he's going through something and it shows).

Hey, 3ways are never an easy job and this is more than respectable, so thanks you for you effort. Top 5% idea around here easy.

IMO EDM isnt paying enough for all the caphits off their hands. I would put Broberg to MTL and take Lavoie out. But that's because I don't see Anderson as negative value. I realllly dont want to get in that argument though...

The value is fine for what Edmonton is getting and dumping Campbell. Only problem is that it doesn't make any sense to pay to dumb campbell when his buyout is super cheap. Almost no chance Edmonton would pay what it costs to dump him when they can buy him out and only receive a 1 million cap penalty next season

Sure
I mean it makes sense
Limits us in some ways
But Holloway-Caufield reunion is worth it.
Otherwise i dont know why we wouldnt develop a Center out of Holloway

Slaf-Ylonen play great together maybe slide Dach there when he returns
But Holloway-Suzuki-Caufield could be huge for us

Habs will likely be the ones to buy him out. Campbell would still need to be traded for this trade to work cap-wise.

Its really not
Armia's is super Cheap
Campbells costs EDM 1-2 Roster spots a year for a while.
Plus this way you gain as bad a rep as MTL did after Alzner.
If you ask Elliotte Friedman its why most top UFA's dont even field MTL's calls
EDM's atrocious management under Pill Popping Darryl Katz has been the single worst in history.
I cant think of 1 owner with more 1st round picks and even The Generational Star and another Elite Superstar leading
Still they miss the playoffs and struggle year in and out largely due to Cap Restraints and limitations

Effectively, Calgary is taking on Anderson's contract for Lavoie and Harris. Given that the Tanev/Zadorov deal fell through with the Leafs, I don't see them taking on Anderson just to facilitate the trade. They'd be better off selling him at the deadline and just retaining themselves than taking on more cap with Anderson's contract

MTL is likely getting Florida's pick and Not Calgary's. That is unless Florida completely dissolved this year, which seems unlikely. While, I am sure they would like the pick back, this deal is effectively Lavoie and Harris to take on Anderson for full term. They would be better to just sell Tanev and retain for the year on their own.

You missed the part where they get their 2025 1st back. But I agree that a better prospect than Lavoie could/should be added on CGY's end to make this deal sweeter for the flames (or another pick - from MTL or MTL).

Would Bourgault or a 2nd pick do it for you?

Habs would get Lavoie instead. i guess the habs could front the 2nd round pick.

No, In equating the first with Tanev. If they deal Tanev at the deadline for a 2nd and retain half his salary, they are still only 32 spots at most from the 1st they would have got in this deal, and that cap is off the books next year. It would cost a first alone to dump Anderson's contract, so you could look at it the other way and See Tanev going for Harris and Lavoie, which isn't ideal either.

CGY making the Monahan trade in itself was stupid and desperate. Ownership pushed BT to make the team competitive and Monahan was injured (not a bad player or contract).

Not only buying out Campbell isnt cheap at all, you are missing the whole point of the move for EDM, which is to be a contender this season, by renforcing 3 positions, to prove to future Drai & McJesus they are on the right track.

I get it .

In that case - an updated proposition:

3-way trade:

EDM:
- retained Tanev
- retained Allen
- Monahan

FLAMES:
- Josh Anderson
- 2025 1st round pick (CGY)
- 2024 2nd round pick (COL) (only second round pick the habs have this year - or if you are patient, could be 2025 or 2026)
- Xavier Bourgault
- Jordan Harris

2nd round pick could come from EDM as well. (or maybe Broberg...)

Habs:
- Raphael Lavoie
- 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
- Dylan Holloway
- Jack Campbell

Yeah, I could see Calgary doing that. The worst case scenario would be that Calgary has to buy him out next year and eat 5 years of the penalty, which shouldn't matter if they have more players on ELCs then.

True - the guy is also a good leader (in the room) apparently - so he can always be a good vet while rebuilding. He is usually good for around 20g per year and around 30 to 40 pts - there is a good possibility that he rebounds.

I get that, I just don't think Ken Holland would give up Bourgault, Holloway, and Lavoie, the Oilers barely have any forward prospects to begin with and they're losing their 3 best. What if Allen isn't the savior the Oilers need in net? Holland would lose his job if Allen plays poorly after this trade. Just too much risk and doesn't seem like a Holland move whatsoever
